Te Reo Maori is alive and well in Aotearoa (New Zealand). A lot of the first children who were taught the language from birth are now all grown up and a lot of them are now teaching the language to their children and grand children. We even have indigenous cultures from all over the world wanting to emulate our success with our language nests or better known as "Kohanga Reo", and Kura Kaupapa.

They're not only instructing the kids, but they're also teaching those who are older. I'm one of the 'older' ones - my dad was punished for speaking Māori and so that indoctrination was pushed onto me. Thankfully, those young ones are helping me to reclaim my birth right.

As a Maori and being able to trace my lineage back to my Waka and beyond, knowing who I am and who I am descended from plays/played an immeasurable part of who I've become and the connection I have with my whanau and culture. I tear up with gratitude when I hear this song ❤

This waiata is exactly as you described and is of upmost importance to us, and all indigenous who have been through the same. It's beautiful to see our rangatahi (young ones) sing this. We are morehu 💪🏽

Omg, I reasonate so much. I have mental illnesses...I never fitted in so I get you. Think I'm much more aware now that it's okay to be different but at times it's very hard. I'm part Tuhoe... and Kahungunu though like you don't know much about where I come from. Always had problems getting information. I know it affected my whole life. You so need to come here. I would love to give you a hug. My heart is full of pride of the man you are becoming. We are all on our own journeys and there is so much for you to discover. Come on people... let's get this amazing man to NZ. Much love to you. Chin up xx❤❤ S

This is a truly beautiful song, love it, but then I love each and everyone of his songs, just love watching him perform, and I love watching him dance to, 😍 you said it perfectly, Stan sings with every fibre of his being, everything comes straight from his heart and soul, I know no other singer that has his magic, I’ve been around for a number of decades, heard the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s 2000’s, right up until now, he is my most favourite singer of all time, the rest of the world has never seen what we see, or even understand why we see what we see, the music industry is so geared to what will be popular to the young people and the money it makes for them, I admire him greatly for how he embraces his culture, I remember seeing an interview where he said a record company said if we take you on you have to be less brown and can’t sing Maori songs, or in Maori, 😳so he stood by his principles and stayed true to himself and his culture, much respect for him, and you’re right, he does make you feel you wanna be a better person, and hope you can make it to Aotearoa one day, 😍 Arohanui Stan 😍

Dear Brother of Christ , do not let bpd conform who you are, I have what they call emotional unstable pd! I like to see you as an empath, that is why you are so connected to your feelings, others and pain. Sometimes Jesus gives struggles to his strongest warriors. Which I believe you are. I don’t hurt others as I don’t believe that’s the way of life , but I know I get hurt a lot as I’m a sensitive person sadly, but I am currently seeing someone who understands this and it took years of being pushed around but, How I like to believe is I am also an empath and I feel more comfortable. Meditation helps with these sequences in our lives, but maybe not for everyone. Music is key therapy as well as we can express our emotions which is what you do in all your videos, laughing, crying, excitement and more. We do not know each other but I will offer this I am always here for you, talking etc. Sorry I do apologise for the long message, I just wanted you to know you’re not alone in any of this. Even being across the pond 😊 stay blessed

💛💛💛I will have a think about how to set up a trip to NZ; I reckon we can all make it happen! Stan is performing in Wellington (Aotearoa/NZ) this eve as part of a NZ music festival. It's just a 20-minute walk from my house, so, feeling pretty lucky and spoilt! Appreciate your reaction as always. Arohanui. (P.S. Don't forget to watch 'Stan's Story' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aoVl8mc48z4.html.)

The meaning to this song is that we as maori where colonized by England. Speaking maori was forbidden for children at the age of 5yrs in school if they spoke maori the children would be beaten with big wooden rulers by the nuns. If the parents didn't send there kids to school they would be taken from them and never returned! In the late 80s and teacher of maori language started up daycare for parents to put there kids into to learn maori. Which started a new generation of maori Speaking people
