My dream specimen is a small block of tourmaline crystals in matrix labelled 'red tourmaline' with all its original packaging which was massively underpriced, from one of those very well-known mall stores that sell science-y and educational stuff. Clearly, they had no concept of what red tourmaline is. They had only one and I'm so glad I bought it. 😲

Do a video on modern collectors. People like Gail and Jim Span, Fabian Wildfang and Gerhard Wagner. I'm pretty sure The Spann collection is up to almost 5,000 specimens now. They own some of the most iconic recent finds.

Thanks for sharing the best of the rest. Gold at $2,000 x 15 equals $30,000 less refining fees. The best are what resembles something in real life to most of the people who see it besides the mineral rarity. I like my precious opal snake head cast personally regardless if any paleo herpetologist can be found to document it on their dime.

As a mineral collector of over 40 years I specialize in minerals from North Carolina but have collected minerals from other localities as well. North Carolina was my home state and it is blessed with so many fine minerals that it is often called the "specimen state". Hundreds of different minerals are known to occur throughout the state with well over 70 of them in economical quantities. Emerald is the state gemstone with NC the primary source of gem emeralds in the country. Then there are its rubies, aquamarines, golden beryls, sapphires, amethyst, smoky quartz, garnets and even a few diamonds. NC lead the nation from 1799 till 1848 in gold production and was the first documented discovery of gold in the US. Silver was found here in Davidson County and supplied much lead and silver to the confederate army during the Civil war. Copper, lead, zinc, tin, lithium, tungsten, feldspar, mica and many other economically important minerals also have been mined in the state. North Carolina may not always produce the largest or finest of every species found but you'd be hard pressed to find a state or area the size of NC with as much variety.

Finding my own museum worthy mineral would be my dream specimen. I’ve been told that New England has the best tourmaline in the world. I have yet to search but I hope that’s true. If I were into gems when I lived out west I would of never left. Now I live in New England were there seems to be slim pickings on anything really😂

My dream piece, if money were no object, would either be an antique carved Jet from the closed yorkshire mines, or a large Rhodochrosite (I think this is the right stone) that looks like the one that was at the Tucson show a few years back (I think 2018? maybe further back than that) that looked like a pink and raspberry malachite/azurite formation. It has to be the prettiest stone I've ever seen.

A video like this without mentioning Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher? Wow... when she died her collection went to an University and they renovated a castle just to display a part of her collection as its own museum with 3500 pieces on show of the whole 80.000 pieces. Especially that most of those crazy high-end collections belong to men she is really worth mentioning.

I saw a gentleman named Wally Mann who appeared on a video I saw on Instagram. He had some absolutely amazing specimen pieces. He builds the mineral collections and sells them off/restarts! He had an INCREDIBLE Rhodochrosite specimen from N'chwaning mines in South Africa.

My tiny collection over the past year includes: orange sapphire, one montana sapphire, small natural diamonds, lab diamonds, a sphene, peridot earrings, iolite, sunstone, grey spinel, wine colored garnet, a pink garnet, tsavorite, amantidine garnet, morganite, blue topaz, pink topaz, ametrine, and amethyst. It’s small but kinda cute and I like wearing them. Some are unset but I have been getting them set in rings and necklaces and some are set as earring studs.

My favorite gemstones I would say are the only three 40+ gram moldavite that were stole along with multiple cases stuffed with in my opinion pretty damn good gems. Like my oh so tiny green tourmaline that was about as close to flawless you can get. Always wanted to get it facet it but it was so small to start I was afraid of not being able to get a good cut.
