Thank you Meghan. Barry, the technique he used was yakutian style. Yakuts life in Russia but has different ethical roots. They are closer to kazaks. In this run I think he switched from yakutian style to zhotkau. Zhotkau is a kazakh lament singing. They use it for express the grief and sorrow for a person that passed away. And Dimash did it for honor the original kazakh singer of this song. He was one of his favorite singers. He is accompanied from the original band A-studio

Yes I’ve moved my chat to the end of my videos rather than the start like I used to have it (start and end) that way people hopefully won’t click off as quick and if they want a bit of madness just wait until the end. By the way, after I saw your video I emailed my channel manager to ask about sharing your video via a community post on my main channel. Spanish makes me very aware of my tongue, normally when I sing, I just sing, but with Spanish I suddenly realise I have this yoke (👈thing) flopping around inside my face. I’ve been told my accent disappears when I sing in both of those languages (I don’t have an accent, so I’ve no idea what they’re talking about) and it sounds more pronounced when I sing in Irish. I pay very little attention to technique when I sing, I just let the sounds come out and adjust them as they flow, like blowing into an instrument, more air gives a richer sound, less gives an airy sound, chest gives a warmer sound, head gives a brighter sound. I’ve never had lessons, so I just feel the sound and work with it. You brought the placement thing to my full attention. When I was reading your list, I found myself saying the words out loud to feel what you described. I like when a non English speaker sings in English. I don’t want it to sound perfect, I want to hear their accent and I love when words are pronounced a little wrong, I find it charming. Yes, yes, yes and yes 😉

And yes, I would sit there and listen to you pronounce a word, pause it, try to say it, hit replay, pause it, say it……… until I think I got it. I may be wrong with some of it, but I tried to make it as accurate to the American point of view as I could. It is soooo difficult to explain how to say things in words. Some of the things I have added now are words/phrases that I have picked up in the comment section. But, good idea. I will repost it. I will wait until we get a new trouble section because it is so long. No hurry. If you have only sung in Irish (a few songs) then that means you probably haven’t tried Sean Nos. Your Irish accent virtually disappears when singing in English. I can pick it out, but it softens, and like I said pretty much disappears. Swedish, interesting. I had mentioned a long time ago about my childhood friend from Sweden. Well, I have a secret talent. 🤣 I can say “Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all, Snow White” and count to 12 in Swedish. Man….. that is quite the talent, just think what I could do with all that. I know I have totally amazed you now. 😜 I loved your explanation of how it feels for you to sing in different languages. I also really liked the explanations you gave for creating different sounds with more/less air/ chest/ head etc. I am going to experiment. I have recorded myself singing a few times since you made that suggestion. I sing so much more now than I ever have. I have also started playing the piano again. I had stopped years ago and forgot how happy it made me. I even picked up the ukelele the other evening. 😃 So thanks for all that, I credit listening to you for all of that. I also like to hear non-English speakers sing in English. I listen to a lot of music that is not sung in English. I listen to music in English as well. No, I’ve never officially sang that way but most Irish singers automatically have a similar style I thinks it’s in our DNA. I can hear many songs I’ve written (in English) that have that kind of flow, to me that way of singing is like the sound a waterfall would make if it had a voice, cascading notes tumbling down and coming together to make a fluid composition. My mind works in strange ways so that sentence made sense to me 🙄

I wish I could share tone and/or facial expression in words to show how touched I was by that description of yours. Keep that coming. I loved it!! I digress to say, I like the thought of a piece of music being a complete and fluid composition. Like a dance. Looking at the whole and not the parts. Like you could take your arm and move it about in a flowing motion to describe a piece of music like a piece of art. Not only does what you said make sense, but my brain operates in the same way. Here are a couple of notes with a similar subject. You: Music to Nature (You hear nature in music) Me: Nature to Music (I hear music in nature) I would love to eventually turn this idea into a poem. 12/19 Flock of birds, music like water. There is an ebb and flow. Near silence and then they pass above me like wind on the wing. There is a tone, a melody in the water similar to this flock of birds as if they are all reading the same score. Woodpecker, chickadee, pine warbler singing with the music of water on rocks in the background. 12/21 Music in the water, art in the leaves. I just watched a documentary about the music that came out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama (Fame Studios). Maybe you have heard of “The Swampers”, session musicians for everyone from The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, to George Michael and tons more. Where I am going with this is that it is right off of the Tennessee River. The Native Americans around that area called it the “singing river”. They said it sounded like a woman singing.

During the first video I was constantly staring at the video of Dimash and didn't pay much attention to Barry. At 9:03 when Dimash switched to a higher voice I looked over to Barry, because I was sure he'd have some facial reaction to it. Right at that moment Barry looked right into the camera. For a second there I really believed he was actually looking at me. Like two friends suddenly eyeing one another to say "Hey did you hear that?" "Yes I did too."

Keep taking me back to the first time I am hearing this song, you do it every time, dear Barry. I can't wait for you to review another! I totally understand why you cannot speak over some parts, it seems like blasphemy to "interrupt" such an angel like Dimash. Perfect notes indeed, no one on earth can match him!

@@ItsmeBarry Barry I've been told something very interesting about Dimash using the hand gestures. He often sings in the lamenting tone of his heritage to address and respect the dearly departed, and "sends" the notes skyward with the motions. Sounds so much more lovely actually to know that it may be true!

I so agree with you , ice been following for 2 years now and he is like a chameleon.... apart from his ability to sing every genre, it always amazes me that he can go from good looking sweet guy next door to this 6 foot 3 James Bond.... he has it all , incredible voice , stage presence, emotional investment in every performance, good looks and something very rare these days... integrity... he has never sold his soul.. he's a once in a lifetime person and performer... he doesn't need HOLLYWOOD or all that crap...
