History facts about Ulqin! As you mention:”it has muslim influence because of neighboring Albania”,that is not a fact,because as we know the Balkans was I ruled by Ottoman Empire for five centuries, so that means they left the influence behind, not only in Albania, but the whole Balkans. Ulqin is one of the oldest settlements in the Adriatic coast, it was founded in 5th century BC.by Illyrians,(the ancestors of the Albanians)who still today live in this town. In 1880, the town of Dulcigno (now known as Ulcinj) was the subject of a dispute between the Ottoman Empire and the Principality of Montenegro. Montenegro claimed the town and its surrounding territory with a help of European powers.In May 1880, the Great Powers (Britain, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Russia) organized a naval demonstration off the coast of Dulcigno to put pressure on the Ottoman Empire to resolve the dispute peacefully. The Ottoman Empire eventually agreed to cede the town and surrounding territory to Montenegro in exchange for compensation with City of Izmir today in Turki.I 80% Of population is Albanian and they speak Albanian language,the rest, is Montenegro’s,Bosnian Roma’s,etc
I‘m glad you enjoyed Ulcinj😍The muslim influence is not because of Albania. Ulcinjs majority are albanian who took over the new religion during the ottoman empire. Just a small history part of this beautiful city❤️🇲🇪🇦🇱
@@BucketListTravellers actually the albanians of albania are basically atheist or lukewarm towards religions {especially muslim and orthodox} because the 45 years ban towwards religions during the Hoxha era, while albanians of former jugoslavia are more religious because during communist jugoslavia the practice of religion was allowed. About the albanians of montenegro they are muslim and chattolics, with the parish of Bar to be the 2nd largest chattolic parish among albanians, after that one of Shkoder :) p.s. islamisation of the albanian lands took part between the XVI and XVIII century, albanians basically turned muslims for not loosing the ownership of their lands and goods and not losing the possibility to make military career (during the ottoman empire only muslsim could own land and reaching high military ranks)

You would have a general knowledge of religion, language, history, social structeres, geopolitics of the balkans and so on. :)
Hi there, unfortunately we didn't keep an eye out for halal restaurants, but expect you wouldn't have any issues with finding good halal restaurants in Ulcinj, given the close proximity to Albania.

Oh no! We definitely wouldn't have bought a coffee for 8EUR! I checked our transcript and we said 'a Euro', so only 1euro. That is more like it! I wish that were the case back home here in Australia!
Yes, our accommodation was amazing for what we paid and it was in a really peaceful area too. The food was great and generally cheap too. We did decide to splurge a little on the fish hotpot and it was well worth it!
Yes it was really nice. Do you still live in Montenegro? It is such a beautiful country and we need to return to explore more of the inland parts (and maybe more beaches too!).
@@BucketListTravellers Hi...no, I live in USA but my parents home is in Ulcinj. I have not been back to Ulcinj in a while but still have family there. It is always great place to stay.
Ulcinj is a very laid back small town. If you like a slow life, it's the place to be. Good for family and senior holiday destination. Just like anywhere in Europe, driving manner is astrocious. The cost of groceries is cheaper than other European countries. I cooked myself, and found vegetables were not fresh and variety was limited. Potatoes tasted good. My favourite seafood restaurants were Terra Promessa and Tephane in the Old City. Dinner is recommended with sunset viewing. Many food is similar to Turkish in Ulcinj . Beaches are very Mediterranean, many people during the day.
Ulcinj is amazing. My father is from there. You can visit Shas lake in rural part of Ulcinj. The biggest olive tree plantage in Europe is placed near Ulcinj toward Albaninan border. It was former military base during Yugoslavia period.
Thanks for the tup Riha. Yes we had read that Ulcinj is famous for its olive growing, but didn't know that it also had the largest olive tree plantation in Europe. We have to return to explore more by the sounds of it! Thanks for watching.
