Thanks for getting to the right version, finally. Incidentally, it’s pretty common for artists to have shortened nicknames in Japan. Theirs is RyokuShaka. That said, Japanese is straightforward to pronounce once you know how each vowel sounds. It’s always the same regardless of context.

Aw Dave thank you! 😳 you are far too generous to me, I mean it! See, I can pronounce their nickname fine lol, it’s that 3 vowel batch in the middle that trips me up 😂

@@markabusireactions You basically did fine. It's pretty much just ku, and then like "oh ooh". "oo" and "ou" are distinct sounds in Japanese, like Oosaka vs Toukyou (Tokyo), but it's subtle to just hear it. My point is that it's not any kind of special case. It's the o sound, elongated, for Oosaka, and it's the o sound followed by the u sound for Toukyou (i.e. you're puckering more to make the u sound at the end).

Except for all of those silent u’s, and inexplicably extra u sounds added to the end of words .

By the way, ‘the First Take’ is not a TV show, it’s a RU-vid channel owned and run by Sony Japan. It’s a massive rabbit hole.

0:15 Ryokuoushoku Shakai, this is Japanese written in Romaji, not English. (Ryo ku ou sho ku) 5 syllables (Sha ka i) 3 syllables Ryokuoushoku Shakai means green-yellow society.

There are a lot of really great performances on The First Take, but this is still my favorite. The vocalist, Haruko Nagaya, is really special. Their songs lean a little more pop than is my taste, so I don’t listen to them a ton, unfortunately. This hits me similarly to acoustic Puzzle from Band-Maid. Haruko is a stronger vocalist than Saiki, but Kanami’s backing vocals and guitar work help make up the difference.
