There was a rumor back in the day that the sequel was going to be like, years later, where Jack Jack is a teenager that's having trouble dealing with his powers and starts leaning to the villainous route. That probably would've made for a good sequel. I haven't seen the sequel yet but none of the trailers have enticed me to do so.
@ssffe529
@ssffe529 5 лет назад
I think that would've made more sense considering the fact that the animation had been upped more and it'll give more on the characters and what they've been doing over the past 14 years. It would've been cool to see that but instead they went back to square 1 to the first film. No one learned anything. While entertaining it had poor writing and didn't surpass the first film at all.

I absolutely hated this movie. HATED it. Why? Because I always thought The Incredibles was the only Pixar film that was worthy of a sequel, i.e. there was more we could learn and experience with these characters. What happens as they get older? What happens when Violent enters into a relationship with someone who doesn't have powers? What would happen if Dash "grew out" of his desire to be a superhero? How will Bob handle his strength diminishing with age? Maybe we could pickup in the age of Bob and Helen's grandkids were some have powers and some don't and that causes tension. Maybe as Dash and Violet get older one of them questions the wisdom of a secret identity. Basically, there were a million interesting ways in which this could have gone that would have been fun to experience but no. Instead we just got the same movie with characters that became more two-dimensional instead of more interesting. Cash grab indeed.

Andrew Kaiser YES. Thank you. I feel somewhat alone in my hatred of this film, everyone I've spoken to in real life said "oh it was good..." And that's it. When I first saw it I was let down. I felt it was fine for a kids film. Then I rewatched the original Incredibles, then I saw it with director's commentary on and I grew a new respect for the first film. So much time and effort was put into building a world from the ground up, a world with characters about whom you care and who change and grow as the film moves on, in a way that makes sense and feels fulfilling. Then I revisited this film. I grew a stronger distaste for it than I originally had. Then I thought about the potential that this film could have had if it had taken place 14 years later, and I grew to HATE this movie. Which I now do.
@roberthan5109

The more I think about what they could've done with the movie the more angry I get really. I was thinking they'll age up the family the same way they aged Andy from toy story. We basically grew up with Andy and it made the film a lot more enjoyable for me. I got excited when I heard they were making a sequel cause I was expecting them to do the same thing, and they could've done so much with it. But it picks up immediately where the last film left off, and the whole thing was just uninteresting and dissapointing. It was the sequel I've wanted, but also didn't want at the same time

Also, I'll be honest; I think the 2004 film's CG holds up. It's dated - obviously. But becsause the entire setting is within that world and it's stylized, it's easy to ignore (like when you watch a cartoon).

@Dumbledoresarmy13
@Dumbledoresarmy13 6 лет назад
It does work with the stylization, but there are some scenes that look a little 'playblast-y'. As in, they look a bit like they would playing in the animation program rather than what they should look like fully rendered (by today's standards). However, the 2004 film was using some kind of nCloth type thing on clothes (or so it appears) and that was pretty advanced looking for the time.
@Joe_Yacketori
@Joe_Yacketori 6 лет назад
The movie's visuals are well put together. That's for darn sure, and it still holds up today. The only problem is the current computer technology at the time which held it back, which isn't the movie's fault. But in theory, all the visuals still hold up, minus textures, lighting, and particle effects.

Yeah that was a really awkward line to have included in a kid's super hero/animated film. Like an innuendo a kid would never understand is one thing (just to give the adults a little nudge for their benefit), but the phrasing and word choice draws attention to it in such a way that it felt intentional, though I suppose saying something to the tune of "my daughter isn't normally this wet" would have been even worse on every level. It's just a bizarre thing to make a comment on.

They could have set it in the future and spam Dash's and Violet's (maybe even Jacjack's) children. THANK YOU! I really don't understand the people who still want sequels / remakes to things they love. Like, as Adam said, it's almost impossible for a sequel to be a passion project, they are almost always cash grabs riding off of the name recognition of the original. I just don't get it. If you love something, let it die peacefully. Appreciate that it exists at all, enjoy it on a rainy day, and look forward to new and original projects from the creators you love. I think a lot of this sequel-itis is due to people connecting their love of a movie with the name of a franchise rather than to the people behind the scenes who created it. People didn't love "The Incredibles" so much as they loved 90's to early 2000's Pixar before they were completely bought out by Disney, but that's too complicated of a distinction for most people to make. Many people think that Pixar was ALWAYS Disney the whole time, so, ya know, I guess what I'm saying is that clamoring for a sequel is just misplaced love.

I highly enjoyed the film for several reasons. The action was easier to see, more exciting, and more creative than anything we've seen in movies the past few years. The characters acted true to themselves *(except maybe Dash)* and were given loads to do while still leaving room for new characters, unlike The Last Jedi, which introduced more characters than necessary and completely wasted old ones. The way the Parrs interacted was once again realistic and Bob and Helen's dialogue was often quite smartly written. The A and B plots were both entertaining and the film balanced them well. There was never a time when I wanted it to cut back to the other story. I admit the main story was predictable, but I found it exciting despite the fact. Lastly, this film had a lot to live up to, and unlike Adam, I did actually get the impression that a lot of care and passion went into making it. Brad Bird was on my mind the whole time I was watching it. I completely respect Adam's opinion, and agree with a lot of what he said, but I think he glossed over a lot of its positives, many of which are hard to achieve and aren't seen very often in modern cinema. It's not without its flaws, but I find it to be an incredibly crafted film.
@Ladondorf
@Ladondorf 6 лет назад
Not necessarily. What I mean is that it's a tight, entertaining film with a lot of good subtext. A lot of similar films today are trying to be part of a universe, which I often like, but it's refreshing to watch a straightforward sequel. As far as subtext is concerned, I think many similar films don't either don't incorporate it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, or do so poorly, which can ruin a movie for me. When it comes to the other positives I listed earlier, like action, creativity, and balancing how much characters participate in the story, it's hard to hit the mark on all of them. So I don't mean older movies were generally better or anything, it just happens to be both something you don't see as much today *and* something that's hard to pull off.

Your theory about them choosing not to set the film in the future so they can exploit Jack Jack makes a lot of sense, and when you think about it, they could've just had both. Why not start the film with Violet's child being born? Then you can have all of the characters aged, with new, interesting arcs to go through, while also capitalizing on a cute, dumb baby with super powers.

Because then the nostalgia would be lessened. Aging the characters would involve them being developed/changed which would take more effort and would need some of the film being dedicated to exploring that development. Older characters would be more alien, would take more effort to write and would have baby geniuse- i mean super babies and family drama bullshit so really no reason for them to waste it.

I was really really shocked that there was NO NOTE that the movie had flashing lights and could cause epilepsy anywhere from Pixar. Especially since epilepsy/photosensitivity is common in children. I saw the movie last night, and when I went back today to watch Hereditary, our theatre had to put out warning notices. I’m sensitive to flashing lights, not full out, grand mal seizing, but they make me space out, sometimes. And they give me bad headaches. Idk just surprised pixar hasn’t mentioned it yet.

I have a huge grip with how you say the setting of the first movie isnt "clearly defined" yet this one is The first movie takes place in the 50's-60's with time period sci fi elements. The stealth bomber esque ship carrying the robot and all of the more futuristic technology is modeled and designed after how people in the 50's-60's thought the future would look like/function. So even though it uses technology that doesn't exist even today and is more futuristic it's still designed by the aesthetic and thought process of someone from the 50's-60's (The scene where Dash is chased by flying saucers comes to mind), and the fact its not readily available to common people and is made by either geniuses or supers makes it even more unique and appropriate. Unlike in this movie where Elastigirl's stupid fucking motorcycle looks like it was designed by a toy company and not by anyone who understood the visual design methods of the first movie. Also the new supers costumes look like modern day image comics costumes and not something from the 50s or 60s. It looks so shitty i cant even begin to describe it. Aside from that complaint with your critique thank you for asserting my ego indirectly lol
@tomo4977
@tomo4977 6 лет назад
Nolan's Trash Zone I gotta agree, the new supers like Void kinda looked like a Deviantart Oc. Not just we're her colours glaring, as well as many others, they may would've fit better in a different toned movie but definitely not with the sleek, sophisticated, almost angular style the incredible brings. Brad Bird wanted it to feel quite timeless, but in that point I believe it could've been more possible to have fitted the new characters, scenes and technology around the original tone. Some they did amazing well, especially when it came to how it was lit and coloured, but other times, the art itself felt jarring
@paganpulpit
@paganpulpit 2 года назад
@@tomo4977 So happy I wasn't the only one lmao. You put the all the new characters side by side with the originals and their color palette are so bright. Idk about the whole character design production of the sequel but it felt like the new characters were drawn on computer first instead of a traditional medium, since their color palette have this very digital feel. Lots of the characters in the background felt like Ocs where they have too much detail in them and their eyes are ginormous.

The way he started out this video made it sound like he just didn't want there to be another Incredibles movie, that's what I based my comment off of. Anything they did would have been a "nostalgia cash grab." Even though, if you ask me, it seemed like they went out of their way to not make it seem nostalgic to the first. He even shit on things like the characters sounding older. Hmm lets think about this for a second. It has been 14 years in real life time, so....the voice actors aged 14 years....voices change over time....hmmmmmmm.
@Ruldolphmaker
@Ruldolphmaker 6 лет назад
"because it was unnessicary" I actually agree with this assertion. Here's the problem, this new story doesnt need to exist, in it's current state. If the sequel were made 10 years ago in 2006 or something it would be fine. But this isnt 2006 - its 2018. By all means you cant exactly tell the same story with these characters all these years later and have it be releveant to a chain of character progression. They COULD have aged the characters up, as Adam said, but they kept it the exact same, telling you all you need to know about the movie should you be familliar with Big-budget practices. 1:The film probably adds nothing to the original 2: The film wasnt made as a passion project, it was made to get money 3: The Film banks on enough nostalgia that some well-paid advertisers online can stirr up a buzz, and these paid adverts dont even say what they are. they simply take the form of fan-posts. I remember a post talking about how the animation showed "hairs on Mr. Incredible's shirt" - uhhh yes, Zootopia and Monsters University called . It's dishonest marketing and reeks of interference 4: He points out that the voices are distracting, Because they now sound way too old to be their characters. Sammy L. Jaxckson for instance is an almost 70 year old man playing a 40-something Frozone (Granted when he recorded his lines for the storyboard, he was probably 67 or 68)
@andrew3606
@andrew3606 6 лет назад
1. You're *probably* right about that. 2. I've been hearing that a lot. "The film wasnt made as a passion project, it was made to get money." To me that doesn't make much sense when you consider all that went into it. The original director directed this film, the original composer composed the music, the original voice actors voiced the characters (Several of which are A-list actors, mind you,) and the animators did everything in their power to make it as visually appealing as they could. I see no part of this movie that lacks passion. What I think you mean to say is that this movie didn't present any new ideas and therefore it's obvious that the writers didn't spend all 14 years developing this movie. I am in agreement that there didn't necessarily need to be a sequel, but to insinuate that this movie lacks passion and hard work is to discredit all that went into the production. 3. Obviously they were banking on fans of the first movie to come back and watch it just because it's another Incredibles. They realize that their target demographic is largely older people that grew up with the movie. That's just smart business, and is obviously what said demographic wanted judging by public opinion. However, to say that this movie was relying on that just seems almost like blind criticism after you watch it. This story is exactly what you would have expected to come out in 2006, as if it was an appropriately timed sequel. There were few instances that I can remember where they relied on what was popular in the first movie to cover up a bland story (and it was a bland story.) It was just another Incredibles movie. All criticism on the story or the lack of character progression is understandable and expected. That's how advertising works. 4. Like I said, peoples voices change. If it's distracting then it's distracting. Not much you can do with hundreds of hours worth of voice acting that doesn't exactly match a character you played when you were 11. lol Also it wasn't the hair on his shirt, it was the fibers of the cotton. Check your facts, son.

Zarathustra for me the story wasn't bad in a way, but disappointing especially for Pixar and Incredibles. So I kinda went in low expectations and I was presently surprised. Because despite the obvious first story swap and very generic villain, certain characters with no arcs and at times an unfocused story, it was executed really well, or at least other areas brought in their 10/10 game. Like I still can't get that helicopter scene out of my head, I felt vertigo while watching it lol. The story won't be as memorable as the first one, but scenes, shots, lighting animations, character designs etc, will very much stick. In my option those are what they did actually better from the first one at times (and yep the technological advantage obviously helps that)

MILD SPOILER ALERT: I don't think Mr. Incredible was being an intentional asshole to his family. He legitimately was not someone who was used to riding in the passenger's seat. From being THE Mr. Incredible back in his prime to working at the shady insurance company while Helen took care of the kids, he lived a life where he took the wheel and steered his and his family's life. So for Helen to be chosen over him for something he'd dreamed of for YEARS to happen and suddenly become a stay-at-home dad must have been very jarring for him. Throughout the movie, you can see how hard he struggles to suppress his unhealthy jealousy and be happy for his wife, give equal time and attention to Dash and Violet, and adapt to Jack-Jack's evolving powers which even Helen knew nothing of. As for Pixar giving Jack-Jack the screentime they did, I felt it was crucial to the future events of the movie as all of his powers come into play during the climax. It wouldn't have made sense if they were all fighting those people in the near end and suddenly we see Jack-Jack just spouting powers left and right when there wasn't anything prior to hint at his growing abilities. We'd be staring at the screen like, "When did he learn to do that?" because then we'd really feel cheaped out by lazy writing. They did carry it out a bit too long with the raccoon scene, though, I'll admit that. I'd say this movie lays a good foundation for an Incredibles Disney TV series. They don't need to make another movie (and I don't think they will) as the conclusion finally made full circle and ended on a high and pleasant note. Just my opinion.

They've dumb down Mr.Incredible imo remember the montage scene in the first movie after Bob got a new job, It shows how tender and loving he is as a father; Incredibles 2 just threw that out of the window, It seemed to me like he entirely forgot how to be a parent. As for Jack-Jack he was funny but then he wasn't anymore; He became an annoying burden to the film that contributed absolutely nothing but cheap gags. For one showcasing Jack-Jack's power was intended to show how uncontrollable he was setting up the conflict for the B plot which Mr.Incredible had to handle; the racoon scene was fantastic but that should have been the end of Jack-Jack's spotlight, after that it should've returned to Mr. Incredible as he is the main character of said B plot; instead half of the B plot is focused on him doing dumb annoying shyt contributed absolutely nothing to the story. Also his characterization in the sequel is to mature for a baby which makes him more annoying, to me he felt more like a brat 5 year old kid than a baby.

Reading the comments, I am honestly so surprised people continue to just... accept this movie. Warning: spoilers and a long analysis/rant ahead Helen always had that s/sh speech, but I felt it was much more noticeable in the second film, and it almost felt like it was being purposefully exaggerated. If that was just the voice actress (which I understand), it would have made more sense for her to have grown older or for more time to have passed, to allow this change in her voice and speech. I did not notice the other characters’ voices changing as dramatically, to be fair, but... Mr. Incredible grew as a character in the first film. In this second movie, which directly follows the first, it’s like he backslid back further than where he was as a character than he was in the first movie to begin with. If his wife failed as a super, it would show he’d done nothing wrong. It would be proof to *him* that he wasn’t just out of touch. That the odds were stacked against all of them- not just him. He is jealous of Elastigirl, yes, but it does feel as if it was taken to an extreme. There’s a difference between being upset you aren’t there and being upset to see your loved one succeeding. Yes, this is particularly to do with Helen. As the movie moves forward, it is shown he is doing his best to be a good dad, but at the beginning he remains stubborn and bitter. You can argue he’s overwhelmed at this point, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was acting like a jerk to begin with. And I never really got the impression in the first movie that he was an incompetent father or bad at raising his kids or being a dad. He was stuck in the past, and that was strongly affecting his relationship with his family and their dynamic, but he never read as resenting them needing him. He never seemed like he would be completely out of his depth raising his children. Dash, in the second film, *was* an asshole. It felt to me like he was constantly doing things with the explicit intent of ruining the lives around him. In some instances, he still felt like a little kid who was just having trouble, but... Continuing to push buttons blindly in this weird semi-panic and then running off even though no one showed much anger to his actions. The initial mistake was understandable. Further action felt more and more forced the longer he continued. Another example was when he was fighting his father for the remote to his car. What was his motivation there? He was never shown to be acting out because of any specific reason. Even in the first film, when he was upset about his parents fighting and being split in their views, he expressed this naturally and acted out *because* of it. Idk about you, but him screaming about vegetables seemed out of place and unnecessarily over the top. You could argue he was upset about the general situation, yes, 100%, but that never felt genuinely conveyed. It felt like the film wanted us to fill in the blanks, rather than show us, really express, why the characters were acting the way they were. Jack Jack’s character and “exploration” of his powers felt like more of an extension to the extra babysitter scenes available in the special features of the first film’s DVD. It was a fun short, that served more as an exploration of the limits of CGI animation and pushing the boundaries of what they could and couldn’t do. Those scenes weren’t included in the movie for a reason. The whole thing runs like a gag without any real purpose in or to the original movie, because if they had included it in the final product, Jack Jack would have been so unbelievably overpowered. The throwaway line from Edna of a baby of supers developing multiple powers as he grows, and kind of working through them like he was just testing out his options, did not excuse the lack of believability regarding Jack Jack’s overly-complicated and “wrote the plot into a corner so the cat did it” mentality of the resolution of the film. The entire scene where Jack Jack is “fighting” the raccoon also felt so out of place in the storyline and narrative that had been built up about and around this world/universe. Argue all you want about it being “what a child sees,” but that doesn’t excuse its totally out of the blue existence in a universe where it had never established animals are intelligent in this manner, and never touched on the idea again. It was put in to, arguably, showcase Jack Jack’s powers, but mostly? Because it was cute. It was a selling point. But it had absolutely nothing else to do with the movie, which could have succeeded just fine without it, or with it strongly altered to better fit into the general narrative of the film and universe. There was no “development” of Jack Jack’s powers. The writers added in scenes showing what his powers were so that they could better showcase what they were in the finale, but they were never explored in-depth. They never developed or changed. Jack Jack was never shown growing control over his powers or figuring them out as he went. They just weren’t. And then they were. In the first film, in the final scene, Jack Jack only supers-out after being kidnapped and flown into the sky. He hadn’t seen his mother, father, sister, or brother in days. He’d been alone and when they were finally reunited, with the stress and relief of the entire event resting on the shoulders of the entire family, suddenly he was losing them again. And he got *mad*. We see him crying at first, screaming for his mother. Screaming in the arms of the villain like any baby would in that moment. His change isn’t automatic. His emotions rise in intensity and he is given real fear as a reason to react and demonstrate his - much less diverse - powers. Powers that only the most interesting and “quirky” were demonstrated in the second film. Powers that hadn’t been showcased in the first film that were just shoehorned in because they could. It didn’t make any sense. Plus the scene where they completely contradict themselves with giving Jack Jack a cookie, without him exploding in anger and throwing a superpower-enhanced tantrum when he didn’t get his way. When they are on the ship, the only time Jack Jack actively acts like a baby/toddler is when it is most convenient to the plot- when he finally finds his mother and she doesn’t react positively to him. All throughout the rest of that segment, he wanders around being cute and playing around. Show him as curious, not oblivious. Children do have a sense of danger. But instead of writing him as a believable child, they only used him a cute and convenient way of resolving the main conflict and thwarting the villain’s big, important, built up to in the entire movie plan. AKA, the cat did it trope. The villain’s motivation felt unfounded, and her way of achieving it made even less sense. The only twist in the plot twist for me, was that the brother actually wasn’t in on it. And even that wasn’t played well, sorry.

I didn't find Mr. Incredible or Dash to be assholes at all, I don't see how you thought that. However Dash's role was severely undercut. He didn't do anything or have any arc through the whole movie. And seeing all the character grown up would be awkward at best. I wanted to see a sequel with the current characters. I think that's what most people expected out of an Incredibles sequel. My main problem was that the main supervillian was kinda lame and her plot was pretty dumb. Syndrome was a way more fleshed out character. This movie certainly doesn't live up to the first. I liked it though, enjoyed all the character interactions and dialogue. Side note: I respect your opinion on the movie but holy fuck is your comment section full of smug assholes. Shigaraki (sp?) is coming from a view where ppl believe All Might will always save you, AM being a stand in for or a pillar of social justice. It is this faith that allows them to lead lives blind to the true, harsh nature of the world... one that he was thrust into as a child. His motivation is rendering that truth bare. His views are actually much closer to Heath Ledger's Joker than the villain here, though he's more of a Hobbsian position without a pure chaos ethos.

I was also disappointed about there not being a time jump between movies. You could tell some really interesting stories about Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone aging and getting too old to be full-time superheroes. Then that spurs Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack (if the jump was at least a decade) to take up the mantle of the protectors of the world. And if Jack-Jack's immense powers grow as he gets older, he could be corruptible and potentially be a personal antagonist that the heroes have to face.

Anguila Hombre really? Because there’s a difference between saying “the movie is predictable and has a lot of cliches” and saying “THE MOVIE WAS OBVIOUSLY A SOULLESS NOSTALGIA CASH GRAB THAT WAS MADE OUT OF OBLIGATION AND GREED RATHER THAN PASSION”. One is an opinion, since you can’t disprove it. The other you can very easily disprove; Brad Bird, writer and director, stated that he purposely waited the time he did because he only wanted to make a sequel if he thought it could be as good as the original. The line between opinion and stupidity is blurry. Making a statement about how you see a film is an opinion. Making a provably false and ridiculous statement about the author’s intent is just stupid. My favorite part is the way he justifies it. He didn’t personally like the script, so obviously the movie is a cynical cash grab.

You have no idea whether or not this was a passion project or a cash grab. It’s entirely possible (and likely, given Pixar’s history and the amount of time between the two films) that Brad Bird finally found a story that he wanted to tell, as opposed to rushing out a sequel because it could sell tickets and that’s it. Also, this story feels like a much more natural extension of the first film than, say, Finding Dory. It continues the characters’ arcs, mainly Mr. Incredible’s, in a fitting way. In the first movie he was an absent father who learned the error of his ways by the end, so it makes perfect sense that he would now struggle to actually raise the kids he wasn’t really there for. This film wasn’t perfect, but you seem incredibly quick to write off anything like it as a soulless studio product without bothering to take much of a closer look.

Dylan Harding It bothers me too that his personal perception of the film led him to talk about the movie like it was objectively made to be a cash grab. He has no legitimate evidence whether it was a passion project or a cash grab, yet he seems to pressume it clearly was, and this viewpoint is only substantiated by the fact he personally didn't think the movie was good. My qualms with this review: 1. Helen has always had a lisp even in the first movie 2. So we should skip 20 years into the future and ignore Jack-Jack even though he help defeat Syndrome in the last movie? I felt his power development was crucial. I do agree that some moments drug on way to long. 3. People's voices age but they all pretty much sounded the same. Violet sounded a bit older but nothing to jarring. Win some lose some, either get the original cast and they sound a tad older or change the cast completely, messing with the older fans. 4. Bob was NOT an asshole at all. He was quite a loving father, dealing with his angry daughter, kid son, and baby that's developing superpowers. Of course he's stressed. He's jealous of Helen because he loves being a super but cant be at the moment but he has always loved his children, helping Dash with his homework, Violet with her crush problems and Jack-Jack develop his powers. Did you miss the part about him saying that he wanted Helen to succeed so he and his family can have the choice of being supers? 5. Evelyn/Screenslaver didn't want people to completely rely on supers to solve their problems. This I can understand. She wants people to be able to think and defend themselves when necessary instead of being a damsel in distress. I don't think she was as good of a villain as Syndrome but she didn't have as much personality or charisma.

Came here to say that. Bob was an asshole in the first movie, insistent on living out his glory days, to the point where his wife thought he was having an affair (it was expanded in a deleted scene even). That's not "loveable doof" character, he flat out lied to her and everyone repeatedly about it. He was a superhero living amongst superheroes and was still feeling the need to live a double life - that doesn't make him the good guy. This time around he was completely open and honest about everything, and it led to a decent discussion instead of just some bullshit tired deception subplot. I actually loved that. He also expressed he felt he should've been the one chosen to be the representative, that he was more worthy -- and she didn't scold him for it! It's like she knew who her husband was and he would never settle for second best because he is named "Mr. Incredible" for fucks sake. He even cracked he was gonna 1 up her and she hit him with a pillow in a fairly cute way. It didn't destroy their marriage. They're both competitive and accept that about each other and that's great. TWICE during the ordeal he had the opportunity to sabotage her success and he *avoided* it. His kids were like "what are you doing?" willing to pull the plug on her success and he said "i'm formulating a plan" and it was very real and respectable, he wasn't trying to ruin his wife's situation he was helping her-even tho he felt he deserved that role. As you said he helped with the other kids, or at least tried. And he went to Edna to learn how to help with Jack Jack. It had tons of fan service and what not but what I liked about Jack Jack was that, unlike the first movie, his powers explained the universe a bit. We didn't know how many powers or when or what who when etc develop in a person - every super was fascinated with Jack Jack and it gave the universe some rules and definition. I do not normally care for babies as fan service goes but I thought it was fairly mild with Jack Jack, it focused more on the lack of control than him being "goo goo gah gah funny baby voice". I don't think his scenes were the best, and both me and my husband thought he would be a more pivotal role in the end, and we were both glad he wasn't. I was expecting so much worse when it came to JackJack but he isn't even Groot level. I was also upset that the side characters getting more play being ignored in this review. Everyone had decent fight scenes and better character development than the first. Despite the claim here I do not think anyone changed character wise. There wasn't a gap between the end of 1 and start of 2, but there was a gap from the end of Syndicate to that scene with the mole villian dude. He said Dash was an asshole... while showing the scene of him fixing the old lady's glasses. Yeah the car remote thing was stupid, but he applauded dash for acting like a stupid younger kid/annoying brother in the first movie, how is not "YOU HAVE A COOL CAR WITH ROCKETS" not elicit the dumb young boy response. Dash is a pretty awesome brother for the whole rest of the movie considering it all, way nicer than in the first so I don't get the "asshole" bit. I'm pretty sure he was even eating the bran cereal on his own volition when his dad finally got to sleep. Fight and action scenes were solid all around with amazing use of character powers. All the sub heroes proved their worth 2nd act. Not just one or two but they all pulled their weight. I think it's mostly due to pacing but it just had so much content. I'm so happy Frozone was finally useful this movie - several times over. As far as the plot. Oh yeah - it was so obvious Evelyn was evil. Her first appearance she was the "disheveled cruella deville type" as my husband put it. And within the first exposition you have her clearly stating her objection that her parents would both be alive if they just ignored superheroes and 'thought rationally'. They were not even trying to make this hidden. That does suck. But I wish more attention was drawn to plot of elastigirl because it had a lot going on. Instead of saying "no change in character" and to also ignore the dynamic of hero regulation. Overall he said the movie was a clone, but I see it as an expansion. The first movie barely touched on the legality of supers, it was more about Mr Incredible himself and his story. This was more on the universe, I remember being very intrigued with the intro to the first Incredibles and the legality of heroes, this movie did more for that than the original. HOLY SHIT i did not realize i had so much to say about a pixar movie. don't get me started on that fucking short before hand "Bao". I can't believe i had to explain to my kid that some lady didn't eat her "onion baby" and he "didn't come back to life bigger but not white"

His portrail as stay at home father was pretty realistic. Same with his conflicted feelings toward helen being successful. And bob is sometimes choleric when dealing with conflicts. Evelyn was a good character, wit a great voice actress criminally mishandled. She could have been as good as syndrome or better with better characterization, motivation and some inner conflict.

Quick tip for two of the commenters here: You sound petty and childish when your arguments are “don’t listen to the critic” or “form your own opinion, sheep.” Why not state your own opinion? ... oh wait, this is the internet, it’s fine to act petty and childish. Also, the comment is a joke on the title of the movie and not a statement of the person’s opinion.

Hey Adam did you just make this video so you can make another retraction video like you did for A Quiet Place. Because you were wrong. Bob never wanted anyone to fail, ever, in the entire movie. He was jealous that his wife got to be a Super, but he supported her and his family. I mean did you close your eyes and plug your ears for 80% of the film? You were also wrong about the voice actors sounding different; they all sound more or less the same. Holly Hunter had the exact same lisp in the first film. I thought you said you JUST re-watched it?
@matthewpahnke2613

Voices were different. They've aged 14 years and Dash was straight up recast. But that's a nitpick and one you can adjust to after 10 minutes with the characters. But you're right. Bob didn't want anyone to fail. Where is that criticism coming from? This was the first and last video I watch for this channel. Annoying presentation with outright factually wrong complaints.

I should say that I didn't really notice a difference in the voices. Jack Jack obviously sounded EXACTLY the same, because they used archived recordings from the first film. The thing that really irritated me though, was that he said Holly Hunter sounded different because she has a lisp now; when she had that lisp in the first one.

Unrelated, but did anyone else feel like the characters from the first film did not fit with the world or the new characters introduced in the second film? The animation was lovely, but the Incredibles felt like they were being shoehorned into a completely different universe. Frozen was the one character from the first movie that actually matched the new world and its inhabitants.

Billy Barnett sure I guess but what's the point of doing a sequel YEARS later when they didn't bother with time? The possibilities are endless: how did the kids end up, especially Jack? Was their marriage successful? How do future generations feel about heroes? Do the kids regret becoming heroes or did they enjoy it? I don't know, I guess I just expected too much but how could I not? The first movie was *VERY* adult with mature themes, hell for the longest time I had trouble watching this movie because certain themes/ story bits hit way too close to home for me. I'll still check it out but I'm not as exited as before
@billybarnett9518

Arcademan09 The reason it came years later is because Brad Bird struggled to come up with an idea for a sequel, and Pixar didn't rush him on it.
@susanalopez5052
@susanalopez5052 6 лет назад
Brad bird has stated that all their superpowers have a meaning relating to their age (elastic girl is elastic because moms are expected to be everywhere at once, bob is super strong as how a father figure is expected to be, violet is invisible and has force shields because teenagers sometimes feel neglected and teenage angst pushes teens to shield themselves and close off from others, dash is super fast because kids his age are hyperactive energy balls, and jack jack has tons of powers because baby’s are unknown and unexpected, they are not fully formed yet) because of that he has stated that he is just not interested in a sequel years later, “I’m not interested on a college aged jack jack, I’m just not” coming of from that I think his reasoning is very understandable, plus am I the only one who really wanted to see the conclusion to the cliff-hanger of the first movie?! And am I the only one who feels that having a time jump would make the movie REALLY Fanfic-y???
@Arcademan09

12345 Nltsaaegcj I don't know, it seems was more interesting than "this takes place no more than a year from the original" after 10+ years. Also i get what the powers mean, it doesn't take rocket science to figure it out. I'm surprised they didn't do anything with these characters. Imagine if Toy never went past Andy being a kid, part of the fun watching those movies was not just seeing the kid growing up but also seeing how the toys ended up, some survived, some went missing or worse.

I legitimately do not see how Adam couldn’t understand some aspects and plot points of the movie. You don’t even have to be super intensely paying attention to understand what’s going on. And as for people complaining about how Bob was kind of a dick, once again I thought the movie clearly payed out that he was stressed and jealous of Helen’s flawless execution of being a super. Did y’all forget that was like, his ENTIRE drive in the first film? He wanted to re-live the glory days of being a super? Hell, give the dude props for sucking it up and not dragging his wife away for help, even when he’s dealing with the most destructive baby on the planet. If I’m going to be perfectly honest, I think Adam just didn’t really care about this because in his eyes it’s like all the things he hates: Pixar. Animated. Sequel. Superheroes. Mainstream.

I never thought I'd disagree with you so hard on a review but man, you seemed really neglecting on a lot of the character used and what they were going for. I feel like we didn't same movie man, and I've never felt this not in agreement with at any point. I get you're the harsh critic but it seems like you're closing your eyes on a lot of what they tried, especially with the character growth Mr Incredible goes through, and how strong it shows their relationship as a family. I also get that they showed of that the baby is cute but they really didn't go into jack jack as a character even though we knew he had multiple, so it's cool to see how crazy the get. Like I'm not gonna say the film's perfect but, for a lot of this you're kind of whining. Maybe what it does as a film is lack luster, yeah, but what it does for the characters is pretty entertaining and I just can't see where you're coming from.
@hingerdinger1482

Yo your reply makes no sense lol, I've seen good films too wtf that's so stupid, I've studied film all my life and am an actor, I love film, so I can see detail when I look for it and this film had a lot of it, and I liked the incredibles a lot but I never begged for this second movie. Was so excited for it? Yeah but if I'm not excited for a film I'm probably not gonna see it. And my excitement doesn't cloud how I feel about the overall execution of a film. So I know what a good film is bro lol, that's not enough to justify disliking a film. People dislike the departed and pulp fiction and good fellas and these are fantastic films but as long as they have reasons that are solid, anyone can dislike them. I did not get solid reasons from YMS for this film, or at least I feel I didn't. This one felt like a regular, roast that movie, yms that he kinda just went into character for. Before this came out and we just had the trailers, few people took the "helen will be doing all the action because *feminism.*" ugh. Now we can see why Helen was chosen to give heroes a better name; her record was clean, unlike Bob and Lucius who used to listen to crime happenings on the radio. And Bob's actions in the beginning of the previous movie was what caused the topic of making heroes illegal. It wasn't a *feminist* thing; out of Bob and Lucius, Helen has a clean record and a better chance at winning people over.

SPOILERS: It actually does make sense that Evelyn would help the superheroes become legal again. The whole strategy of Dev Tech was to get public opinion in favor of superheroes, which actually would have worked in her favor because it would have made society feel more “betrayed” when she made them appear to declare war on civilians and commit a massive act of terrorism as soon as they got legalized. Not only would this have vindicated the last few vocal critics of supers, but would have had a much greater shock value and therefore would have caused a much greater reactionary downturn in public opinion for superhero legalization. So that one aspect of the plan DOES make sense to me. I do agree with you about the goggles and the national television thing, though. Those were some massive oversights.

While the first movie had a clear 3-act delineation, the pacing on this one just felt a little too frantic for my liking. There's a part mid-way where the villain is broadcasting their manifesto on TV, saying that Supers are just one of many things meant to make the masses docile and complacent. Now, that's certainly an interesting idea( arguably even stronger than what their REAL motivation turns out to be), only problem is that the broadcast was intercut with Elastigirl zipping around the city, which forced the animation and the ideas to struggle for my attention, with the animation ultimately winning out, which is kind of a perfect summation of the movie's issues.

I thought it was great. I respect your opinion on it, Adam, but here's my reasoning, though. It played the idea that men and women in both work and family roles are both important and both require a decent amount of work without pushing the idea just that "women can do just as much as a man can" but it also incorporated the idea that "a man can be a stay at home dad and succeed and be important there" as well. They both have strengths and weaknesses to put on the table and the character development with Mr. Incredible was played well, in my opinion. But I agree that the villain was lazily put together. It made a good point without pandering to the social justice crowd, nor pandering to the anti-social justice crowd by showing that there's more nuance in these subjects. This isn't the first film to do this, I know, but I still enjoyed the take on the life-swapping coupled Superheroes with children. The villain's motivation was just illogical and irrational and probably the weakest part of the movie. But that being said, I still really liked the first Incredibles movie and I'm glad I saw this one. I had fun and I can appreciate your critiques.

But Hollywood can't really address the problems of being a Stay at Home Dad. All they will ever do is go: "ha ha, he is insecure and fumbling!" To deal with that issue in depth, they would have to deal with the woman losing interest in the husband physically as he lost prestige in her eyes, and how she would, in her own mind, compare him unfavorably sexually to all the male bosses and coworkers she would rub up against every day at work. In short they would have to address the REASONS for the male insecurities, namely the fact that their family's future would actually be threatened by them staying at home. And all that would be like criticizing female nature, and we can't have that.

I knew who the villain was the moment they walked in the room lol. While watching the movie I thought it was going to go like that the siblings were both in on it. Since every good superhero needs a supervillain, they created the screen slaver to rival Helen to make a good show. It would help explain why the villain's motive was really strange, and maybe have some kind of message like "do good for the sake of doing good, don't do it just to look good" or something like that. But nah, I guess the person just hates superheroes.

I completely disagree with your opinion on how this movie was a cash grab and was lazily written. But I do agree that the movie was predictable and the villain was very weak. I do preferably like the Syndrome because his motivation made so much sense and had this awesome quote, “If everyone is special, no one is.” Which I find so cool because I never heard that before. But after watching your video I go under the impression that you have this very negative attitude to almost every movie you watch. Most of your points made no sense and it just seemed like you were just rambling saying it was a “crash grab” and “lazily written” over and over again and it just seemed you were nitpicking trying to find negative things about the movie when it was written very well and it was clear that there was a lot of thought and effort put into it. The movie is a FAMILY movie. It focused mainly on the family aspect rather than a whole story about a villain. Frozo was better in this movie because it shows how much of a family friend he is in this movie, and I loved how they switched the roles of the wife doing the hero work and the man doing the moms job. It showed perfectly that even the two are different they are both heroic acts. Jack Jack had more screen time and development and we got to see more of his powers, all of his moments were well thought of and well written. Such as the fight with the raccoon. I loved when he was watching T.V. there was a robber and the raccoon looked like a robber and Jack Jack assumed he was the bad guy. Over all I think this movie is just as good as the first. I believe are your points are plain dumb and you were just looking for reasons on why this movie sucked when it reality it really didn’t.

Genesis 9302003 His points were so fucking annoying. All he does is nitpick and repeat the same fucking thing over and over like if I was a fucking dog. My only problem with this movie was the villain being predictable and a weak villain. Action, comedy, animation, and the setting was wayyyy better than the original film. Elastic girl has a unique power and they use that as an advantage with many of the actions scenes including the one with screensaver. The motorcycle scenes were awesome and creative too. There’s more family scenes in this one too. Violet seems to be more human than the last one and bob actually being a parent for once was cool. The interactions with the family were just as good as the last incredibles imo. Hate how he picks on dash. He complains about him being a little more of a jerk but he’s a fucking kid. Kids are supposed to be acting like jerks and be immature. Don’t know if Adam is a single sibling so he might not understand that. Bob seems normal. He was just jealous this time but he still was the ole lovable goof he was last time. He was always a lil selfish. Sorry Adams I’ve been your subscriber to you for a while now but it starts to appear that you’re nothing but a nitpicking whiner. What a shit review. Edit: What annoys me the most is Adam nitpicking the voices and how the characters are sounding older. Nice observation Adam. Of course people get old you fucking knob. Hey maybe your voice will change when you’re 30 if you don’t die of suffocation from being inside of a furr-suit. Hopefully then because I don’t want to hear your obnoxious whiny voice.

Dr.TacoPHD123 Dr.TacoPHD123 Yeah I agree with all your points 100%. This was the first video I ever saw of Adam’s and he left such a terrible impression on me. He seems like this guy with such a negative attitude, looking for things to complain about. This video really pissed me off because my family and I love this movie. Its such a relatable movie, covering the troubles parents have taking care of their kids, and kids, well being kids. Adam didn’t cover any of that. Instead he just picked on Bob and Dash when clearly there was nothing wrong with them. Honestly this guy leaves such a sour taste in my mouth and I have no idea why there aren’t more dislikes than likes.

Alright, it's his opinion, it shouldn't piss you off. I liked the movie too, I even saw it opening night, but that doesn't mean I have to get pissed off because someone disagrees with me, or ignore subtle flaws in a movie like voices not matching the characters age. Adum even said that he got used to the change anyways so making a huge point about it doesn't really seem like you understood the point. Overall it was a good film, but every piece of work can and should be subject to criticism, and it's ok to disagree in a polite way as opposed to disliking his video and insulting him. People like his content, maybe not because they agree, but because they support him as a creator.

I’ve watched Adam’s review of Inside Out and I think he just has some distaste for Pixar that influences his opinion on these movies

TBH I prefer the animation from the first movie. It felt more grounded and heavy! This one felt way too cartoony and floopy.

It's interesting how different critics have very different opinions on the same movie. Usually there's not much debate with big movies releases like that, lots of divergeance here though. Chris Stuckmann really like the movie for instance, so I was surprised your take was so different. You should have a call together where you explore your difference and disagreements and then upload it to your second channel. That would definitely be interesting.

Generally from what I've seen, whenever there's a movie that's widely considered to be very good like this one (or basically any Pixar movie), YMS is the outlier. I'd wager he'd never actually debate or discuss his opinions with anyone who disagrees because then it'd become increasingly obvious that they're largely based on very minor or simply irrelevant reasons.

Stuckman would destroy him because he actually knows what hes talking about.

PirateOfPlayTime >"I'd wager he'd never actually debate or discuss his opinions with anyone who disagrees" Watch/listen to his Sardonicast podcast with RalphtheMovieMaker and I Hate Everything. The audience has said several times that they think they will argue but actually end up having civil discussion despite disagreeing.

Bermudav3 "Stuckman would destroy him because he actually knows what he is talking about" "You should have a call where you explore your difference and disagreements" I feel like the OP wants civil discussion and you want an argument where one of them is de-legitimized as a reviewer if they lose the argument which should absolutely NOT happen because having different opinions in the world is what makes movie reviews worth watching. Plus "actually knows what he's talking about" sounds less like you disagree with Adum's opinion and more that you think he's *wrong*. Which an opinion can't be wrong or right but unique to a person. The only *ONLY* exception to that rule is if your opinion is that the Haulocaust isn't real or was right/ that the Sandy Hook Shooting was a false flag, in which case you are definitely wrong.

I'll listen to that podcast then, sounds good, I really like IHE. Bermudav3 didn't say Stuckman "has correct opinions," he said he "knows what he's talking about." Very big difference. I'd say a film critic that cites examples from the movie to back up their opinions, shows they actually understood the entirety of the movie and its plot and the character's motivations, and doesn't have any biases and gives an impartial and objective review of the film is a critic who knows what he/she is doing. And I'd say a film critic who just says things like "it was boring," "it was lazy," and "what a cash-grab," never cites things that happened in the film as they actually happened, nitpicks minute details for a majority of the review, and shows clear biases against some companies is a critic who doesn't know a thing about what he/she is doing. I'd also say Adum is way closer to the latter than the former, especially in this video.

The twist was super obvious the min the brother told their origin. I was hoping the villain would be proheroes but went about getting it unethically, & the movie would end on a noble lie, her escaping & her brother or some other character the scapegoat.
