Ireland is one of my favorite countries. It was very nice and interesting to create a video that contains the wisdom of the Irish people. I hope this issue will be useful and informative for you.
For some real Irish history, feel free to see my family history video I just made a few days ago, 1751-1956, restored version. I added your video "Incredibly Wise Irish...." as an end screen, so appropriate! Thanks! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YHzoLfdRe0k.html
@jamescool7419 The voice actor is "desperately unrehearsed" since he declaimed "lives" as one would say "one lives" and not as "a cat has 9 lives." If you speak it the latter way, the saying should go: "8 lives for the man and 9 lives for the woman." It is deeper than I am, for I am a gael of scots (tartan for ervin) and not gael of Eire (Ireland) but perhaps it means that women generally live a little longer than men? After that, you're on your own, beats me. Direct any other prayer requests to St. Paddy, saying "Erin go bragh." All the best! ("Kind words never broke a mouth..." that's a great 1 !)
Really?! Then go get a dog! A marriage is two People in love with each other-friends- giving-wanting the best for the other part! Marrying s o. you don't love is selfish!
Love is a two way interaction. Only the ratio is not always equal. But to marry someone whom you dont love at all is a kind of stupid drama that you have to act in front of your spouse, family members and friends. The pain is within you although your spouse gives a lot of money. Unless you are a true gold digger.
@@danielazubcic8356 well said 👏 👍 😊 absolutely agree! Takes 2 to love and respect eachother, aswell as decide to marry each other. Definitely takes both man & woman aswell as others be it woman and woman too. 2 people must be inlove with each other for any marriage to work beautiful . 💑.
Interesting Video: Reading about people grabbing multi-figures monthly as income in investments even in this crazy days in the market, any pointers on how to make substantial progress in earnings?would be appreciated...
You make it seem unreal to make up to that as a passive income annually, when it’s clearly possible. I have tomade over 1Hunnid thousand dollars from January till now with no joke game plan. She’s a masterpiece and her name is Beatrice.😁
This quote reminded me of my best friend who was murdered by his mother when I was 10. I apologized to him in my mind, because I often complain about my life. (I'm 30.)
@@chriskelly4102 I have IPF. It is Nonreversible, Progressive and has no cure. I like this song. Have been married 64 years. She gave me the time of my life. Death not look Bad, if you have had a good life, with nothing left undone. As a Hindu, looking for a better life.
I have one: "Never use computer generated voices if you want the true impact of words to be felt" (Would it be so hard to find a lovely Irish voice to narrate?)
Many have heard these wise words in Irish voices, the man speaking, he speaks fine, and his voice does not take away the meaning in these wisdoms. GOD BLESS.
@@camoflash7621 Hi, I love an Irish accent, I father was Irish, so yes I understand what your saying, and others, my point was the accent doesn't take away the wisdom of the words. Wishing you and all whom may read this A BLESSED NEW YEAR 🙏
I was told this a long time ago and it has stayed with me ever since: You may not be responsible for everything that happens to you in your life, but you are responsible for what you do about it.
My favourite saying from my Irish father ' If you do not agree with someone , walk a mile in their shoes ...and if you still disagree with them , it does not matter , because you're a mile away and have nicked their shoes '.....wise, wise words .
Think the more known version is "Never criticize a rifleman until you've walked a mile in their shoes, then you'll be out of range and they'll have no shoes."
Only if you let them. I've seen a husband and his friends do that and worse. Even a single man, his friends got " jealous" (yep) when he has a woman that he is really into and those friends of his they have anger against him and hate her and will never like her ever because she supposedly took away their friend. They are sick. Boys grow the f-ck up. No one has time for your bullsh-t.
At age 60 this year I came to Ireland for the 1 st time. I wept when I left. Such wonderful people. So much genuine caring and heart. Greets and Love from Germany.
Don't marry the one you love, but marry the one never gonna give you up never gonna let you down never gonna run around and desert you never gonna make you cry never gonna say goodbye never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.
All the quotes are simply beautiful in words and rich in thoughts. I, an Indian woman is surprised see that many of these are found in Indian languages with very small differences in words with ideas intact. Doesn't it mean that we, humans have gone through similar experiences in life and doesn't it make all of us similar all over the world?
I recently watched Netflix's Stories of Rabindranath Tagore and I was thinking how similar the Indian romance was to my experience as a North American. Yes, it is true that people all over the world have a common collective unconsciousness but also common collective emotions. I find Indian women to be so pleasing to the eye and their grace is so unique compared to Western women.
My friend is muslim- her mother forced her to marry a guy who she thought is ugly- WHY because he said that my friebd is very pretty- anyway both of them divorced and remarried other PEOPLE and divorced again.
Every single human being, bore into this world by God, is unique, singular, special, and His. Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed you, in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you". God begins Loving us from the very first instant, he designs in His mind who we will uniquely be!!! Then and there, You are made "Sanctified" -- made Special, Sacred, and Holy, by your Father Creator of the whole Universe!!!
Two Irish sayings that refer to wisdom of thinking before you speak in a conflicted situation: "Shut mouth catches no flies" and "Its many a man's mouth broke his nose".
Although the tongue is the smallest organ in the body it can cause the greatest damage It can sink ships especially friendships We all need to be careful of how we use our tongue If we have nothing good to say about another then it's best to say nothing at all
WTF! I'm an Afghan and I heard half of these from my mom. she would even say it in poetry that I still remember. for example, she would tell me your tongue can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Sunshine always follows rain we say There is always light after darkness. Who gossips with you will gossip of you. A kind word never broke anyone's mouth, my mom used to tell me if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all or It won't kill you to be nice try it.
@@hope2029 ...Love that bit of wisdom...so true..." Wisdom spans all cultural barriers...Or mom do anyway." Here's one of mine. "Smile! My Mom chose life!"
One of my favorites has to be "May those who love us, love us; and if they do not love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He does not turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so we know then by their limping."
A man's worth is shown by his own shoes. My Irish grandmother told me to never buy cheap shoes but rather invest in a very good pair and keep them clean, polished and always ready for your feet and display. Same with a coat. I've always work trench coats, long "raincoats" like a London fog.
“Don’t marry the one you love, but married the one who loves you. The one you love sometimes always end up to be that one that doesn’t loves you and the one you does not love is the one that loves you
One that has stuck with me from my dad for decades: Dad: "There's only one thing better than perfect" Me: "What's that Dad?" Dad: "Good enough." Took me a few years to understand that one, but it holds a lot of water for me now. Has a bit of that Irish humor to it too.
After watching videos from the Bovington Tank museum, I think that was part of the reason why Germans lost ww2. They spent a lot of time and resources making the perfect tank, while everyone else made them just good enough and could make twice as many in half the time.
Haven't read all the comments here - so it is possible that this Irish saying might be already posted. This was one of my mother's favorite;. "It is easier to live with the devil you know than the devil you don't know,"
I'm Irish american and I've heard that before but I didn't even know it was an Irish saying. May your mother and mine rest in peace and have a hearty afterlife
One of my favourites is 'Beware the anger of a patient man' I used to say something similar when I was working as a woman amongst a lot of men. I would keep quiet up to a point when they made stupid remarks or were particularly rude and then I'd explode much to their shock, they'd always say the same thing "but I thought you were so quiet" to which I explained that I was quiet because I was listening to all the rubbish they talked until I couldn't listen any longer, their faces were a picture!! 😊
As a child, love broke my heart so badly, I swore I would never give my heart like that again but I failed. I married for convenience, but my heart broke into a thousand pieces, when she died at the turn of the century. I've been single ever since. Oddly enough, her name was Beth, and her name is the only tattoo I have!
That’s a bad recipe for marriage. I think there needs to be a mutual love and respect. Keep others out of your marriage and always believe the best about your spouse. My husband is smart, strong, loyal and extremely hard working. I know how blessed I am to have him so the only ones allowed in my marriage are God, him and I.
A few English ones I remember from my childhood: Too many cooks spoil the broth Many hands make light work He who hesitates is lost A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush Evil is as evil does A man who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones Still water runs deep A pen is mightier than a sword
I really liked these. Some in particular _ Every eye forms it's own fancy. - Sometimes one day changes everything; sometimes years change nothing. Don't marry the one you love, but marry the one who loves You. - Who gossips with you, will gossip of you. - and - Both your friend and your enemy think you will never die. ~ Wow
Coming from an Italian father and an Irish mother my mom would share these words of wisdom over and over while I was growing up and I used to say where do you get all these sayings and she would laugh and say there's plenty more . I'm62 and she's gone now but I can still hear her voice somehow !
@@lightofthedark If I am I get it from her she was driven to teach my siblings and myself the tools we would need for life , though I didn't appreciate it growing up I sure do now !
There is a country &western song here in Ireland sung by the late great Big Tom and it goes like this :- You are going out the same way you came in Doesn't matter who you are or where you've been Doesn't matter who you are Royalty or Superstar you are going out the same way you came in....and there's more....Look it up on You Tube A great song by an all time great singer who is now passed away R.I.P. Never underestimate the intelligence of your ancestors because you have no idea what they had to go through! They love you and are watching over you! One beautiful day, you will meet them in the afterlife and realize that you have reached the shores of heaven! Do not fear death, all our loved ones will be there waiting for us when it is our time
"Just say less." read this on a comment once, and every time I break up with a girl I remember it. Worst place to be open about your feelings and vulnerable is when you're trying to let someone go, just say the essentials and leave it to rest.
Irish prayer I have always loved: May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. This traditional Irish blessing is an ancient Celtic prayer.
I am Irish and recognise only 5 of those max. Here are some: Don't marry for money, just love where it is; Long runs the fox; You're a long time dead; The Titanic - it was all right when it left here; She has a face that would sour milk; He would pick a fight with his own shadow; You couldn't believe his oath; She was goin' that fast, she was meetin' herself on the way back; She would sell her own mother; He was as skinny as two yards of pump water; You can't fatten a thoroughbred. Sure, I could go on all night - that'll have to do ya for now!
@@annek1226 Yes, they did. I had two ancestors come from Ireland only they were convicts. The German, Scottish & English were free settlers. The Irish ones were young, fell in love, finished their sentences, got married & had 9 children. I like to think they used these sayings on their children, because all bar one turned out well.
Marry the one who loves you juuuust a little Bit more than You Love them….. And as time goes on YOUR Love will Grow to the Same level as theirs❤️💞❤️ please be sure to have love in your heart for your partner .
@@gregoryross.303 it may not be general. I interpret it as "don't waste a man's time for no purpose or don't waste your time for no purpose" but "a man should always watch what he says because words can create war".
My Irish dad said ," either u do or don't, there's no in-between. And "you can't out-run a reputation. And my favorite was " Never forget your Irish girl" REST IN PARADISE DAD LOVE U AND MISS U TERRIBLE
No disparagement here but it only proves that the totality and universality of the human experience, that this wisdom is found equally in many cultures, not just the Irish. But it is always fun to hear the cultural take on this wisdom
One I heard as a child: 'Conscience is a luxury only those with a full stomach can afford'. My father told me it after I asked about my history homework, specifically the great famine and alleged cases of cannibalism.
@@GhostSamaritan I kind of agree with you but as time goes on I realise that it is probably not that simple. It is easier but not impossible to have that integrity when your “stomach is full” and you have at least some opportunities around you. The longer I live, the less judgemental I become.
It doesn't make sense. She or He will make your life happy however in turn their life could turn to disaster since they are not the person we like or love in first place. In other words they won't get same amount pf love in return from us.Of course real love does'nt expect anything in return but marriage life needs mutual amount of love otherwise it will hurt one day in future.
We love Ireland and all the wisdom that came from it's shores and people! We love visiting there with great friends and it was a happy day when we found out we have a lot of Irish in our own family roots on both sides! :)
I would never marry someone I don't love. Love isn't just word's. You need to feel a connection with that person. Even before marrying them you have to know deep down this person is yours. That they were created for you. And you both have to feel that way too. It's not a one way feeling or what I call a knowing. It could have thousands of men/women wanting to be with you. But there's that one person you know is yours. And they know it too.
If Both are following the proverb, then the love will be far more complete and fulfilling, like you are trying to describe. Always be more concerned about the feelings and needs of the other than your own. Or in other words look outward. The proverb could be suggesting that if you are more concerned about your own passion and desire, then your selfishness will lead to a quick separation anyway.
Stay single. The love you are describing is a romantic love, not an enduring love. This love is only practical in fairy tales, not in real life. Have you ever wondered why 80% of divorces in the United States are initiated by women? The same percentage of women die single.
@@disciple15 There are people who infact have found what I mentioned above including me. Which is why I was able to describe it in such a way. And not because you haven't, does not mean it's non-existent. A connection is not physical. It's spirutal. Many did find such love and didn't accept it, either because they've been hurt before or they don't believe it's real and have low self esteem. Some people rather rush into relationships which is not for them. Then say real love does not exist.
@@ZZSmithReal Before you marry, you KNOW your own feelings. You have to assume the other person's feelings. Don't marry unless you are convinced love is mutual.
Proverbs 9:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. do not rely on wisdom from the world or anything from the world because it will always fail except the Word of GOD. Luke 1:37 - For no word from God will ever fail.
I love the Spanish saying about when you fall in love and are disappointed, it takes One nail to knock out the other I just put native American wisdom and this Irish wisdom on my Facebook and I was thinking I want to put some great Spanish wisdom on my Facebook also! I grew up with a family who the mother is Puerto Rican basque etc.and the father was Lebanese, lifelong friends and that's why God made so many different types of people, so we could all learn from each other and also learn to love our differences and love one another!
Great stuff, but could have done with an actual Irish narrator. Auto generated speech became evident at 5.06...'Eight Lives for the Men'. Should have been pronounced phonetically as in live /dive/ hive /jive /alive, NOT as in live / give.
It's better to be a coward for a minute than dead for the rest of your life, reminds me of the sayings of Irish mothers : "If you fall out of a tree and break you leg, don't come running to me!" If you wander off and get lost, don't come crying to me!'
These wise words have been swirling around the planet for centuries in various tongues. Gr8 if we can heed a few of them. Seasons Greetings one and all. 🦌🦌🦌.
It's not only to find the one you feel and find ideal. It's also to find her in the proper moment when life allows you to have a place for your own, able to earn a living with her. If the time and place you both met and live in, are the right ones, you may feel the gods are on your side. In't it⁉️😔🙏
We have a lot of similar proverbs here in Sweden .Like "Tala är silver, tiga är guld" To speak is silver, to be silent is gold. "En fågel i handen är bättre än tio i skogen" A bird in the hand is better than ten in the forest.
8:13 Don't marry the one you love, but marry the one who loves you. - 1.) You'll be a slave in this acceptance. 2.) You'll not be happy if you do you this. 3.) You'll not giving yourself a favor. 4.) It's like you're buying a thing that you don't like. 5.) You'll never feel in love when you marry. 6.) You will be owned by someone whom you you're not happy to live with. 7.) Yes, You'll not be alone but living like this It's like you're not at home but somebody else home which like sometimes you're not comfortable with to live
Marriage these days is a failed institute. People should avoid this completely. Marriage solves nothing but creates lots of problems. Common-law is even worse than this abomination called 'marriage'. I already have my own prison, I do not need another family to build it for me. Wonderful ! your comments are so true.

That was extremely interesting. Many of the quotes I could figure out, and many I couldn't, but I still enjoyed watching. One that specifically caught my attention was, "A trout in the pot is worth a salmon in the sea." It sounds similar to, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
"Sunshine always follows the rain". Unless, you live in Minnesota, where the snow and the cold follows the rain. Sunshine is just something old folks tell their grandkids about, though no one believes such silliness.
