I can't believe you're going to South Africa Kevin! I was watching the live on Instagram when he told you about the trip. I was so excited when you decided you could do it! Thank you for this video about incubating eggs btw. I've just gotten my first pair of ball pythons I'm intending to breed when they get to the proper size (I own 7 snakes but these two are my very first female bp [het clown] and a male I was gifted that's pewter het clown) This information was so important for my future plans and I can't wait to see what my journey will entail. It's thanks to people like you that I ever had a dream as big as the one I'm currently working toward and I'm so grateful to you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. 🤘🏻❤️‍🔥

Meanwhile I'm incubating on the same substrate I keep the snakes on, springtails and all, in a homemade foam cooler with a heat pad that has a temperature dial lol 89 degrees, 60 days to hatch 👌 I breed on a super small-scale so you know what they say, if it ain't broke 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you to Kevin for the knowledge, but also showing the pros (and single con) of the Wilbanks incubators. Especially for anyone in a retail environment who wants to have an incubator on display - that's a major con and safety concern. I've seen others make homemade incubators, but I would be VERY interested in how you go about it - as you tend to be way more methodical and provide easy to understand yet fully comprehensive information.

Hi! I found you again! When my phones get replaced and my info rolled over, I tend to lose some of my fave channels. And I only frequent your snake channel bc even tho I don't like them, you've taught me so much about being less afraid. Last summer ( in upstate NY)I had a little visitor to my garden....a brown w white stripe garter snake (Sylvia) that my daughter (gentle soul) and I watched and one day my little friend was gone. This AM on RU-vid was pictured a San Francisco garter snake with such vibrant colors and I knew it was Sylvia's cousin! Props to you guys for bringing up the snake awareness and not the fear ❤

20:33 If you have moisture collecting inside your egg box, if you can, ( High humidity inside some incubators can destroy the incubator ) Increase the humidity of the air outside of the egg box to match the humidity inside the egg box. Condensation can NOT form if the humidity/temps outside and inside the egg box are roughly the same, so you can have super humid air, without risk of liquid water dripping on/drowning the eggs. Also keep in mind humid air can carry/transfer more heat then dry air can.

I know it should be Obvious, buuuuut, I was just watching another channel the other day , and they were talking about how they use their tab water( which is community well water, buy it's salt water...) for there egg's- they use a container with the tray, but always put a rung out paper towel on top of the eggs and use that as a slightly moist blanket on their monitor egg... but after talking to a friend realized, that their water was treated saltwater- but he could still taste the salt , and he was starting to wander how much it had effected his egg loss in the past. So he switched to distilled water, which as I'm thinking about it, is not a good choice either because it can leach minerals (specifically, vital electrolytes) out of the body when consumed, but I don't know what it can do to a developing egg..... but, your water quality should be considered for your animals, especially your developing animals, if you won't drink your tap water neither should they....and they definitely shouldn't be hatched using it if it has any contaminates, weird smells, or if it at all questionable.... so, yeah...do you think the distilled is ok in the trays? and that is a total fail on the lock for that incubator, not only is it in a horrible spot, it offer hardly any theft prevention. lol
@NewEnglandReptile
@NewEnglandReptile Год назад
No distilled as you say will pull the minerals. Maybe bottled water to be safe. K

1:50 I always forget those newfangled "central air" devices haven't caught on in New England lol. Its really weird to me. Like San Diego not having them would make sense, summer highs are around 80 and winter lows are around 45. Very consistent. New England is hotter in the summers (with horrific humidity) AND is about 20 degrees colder in the winters! Dont know how you guys dont die constantly. Thank god denver bundlings are usually new enough to have that. We had 9 days last year above 100 and 5 below -5.....

I made my first incubator years ago with circulated air, oxygen input, humidity and the whole 9. I finally bought a real incubator a few years ago from Korea. They have a reptile version j picked up also. I have their hospital incubator and 3 egg incubators. The hospital incubator is for animal rehab. Excellent products. Wilbanks looks great too- they just weren’t around when I was in the market but I also needed a hospital incubator. The brand I have is called Rcom. I controlled my DIY build with PID temp control and it was so freaking stable. I went way too far with the electronics on that one LOL

I love your hypothesis on how python incubation works. It sounds more plausible to me than the one about shivering. As I think about it, it should have been obvious that the eggs would be warm. There's so much cellular activity involved in building a baby snake, that's definitely going to produce some waste heat that the mother can take advantage of during incubation. Very cool.
