You should definitely do a video on indy hollow vs standard when you get the chance!! Just found you channel a couple days ago and I've watched a solid amount of your videos. They are super informative and technical which is hard to find in skating. I ride 149 hollows right now on an 8.5 and it was bulky at first but i got used to it quickly. Probably move back down to an 8.38 for my next setup though.

No other RU-vidr is so detailed and focused in their analysis and articulation about setups, your channel has been a godsend! I skated from about 2003-2010 and stopped to focus on work and music (and partying, go figure! I'd never seen a bong until the loading screen of the Really Sorry DVD!) but your channel has brought back the excitement (and confidence!) I used to have in my teens. About a year before lockdown my life took a big shift that required me to stay at home pretty much 24/7 but setting up a new board and getting out of the house again never felt so good. THANK YOU! Keep up the excellent content and I hope you and yours are doing excellent, much love brother 🙏 P.S. Those boots....about popped a lung laughing! Rode my new board with hightop leather boots for a sesh or two before I got my new Vans...I was instantly out for a week+ with a bruised achilles tendon, never again~!

I just picked up Independent 144s today. Still haven't fully skated my independent hollow 149. side note. I'm a handy man and I first found the carpenter channel before I realized you skated and had this channel earlier this year or late last year. Anyways you've opened my mind to truck/deck combinations/experiments and now I have a truck fetish lol Embarrassingly enough I've been skating 16 years and realized most of the time my trucks were smaller than my board width and I didn't pay much attention to truck sizes until this year. Anyways I Love the Content!

Thank you Ben, I have made many good buying decisions thanks to your reviews and you feedback. Keep up the great job! On another note, I have noticed that indies perform way better if you use a slightly smaller board than you are "supposed to". For instance, I use 149mm on my 8.38, and 139 on my 8.0 and they work like a charm, way better than the 139mm on 8.25, and 149mm on 8.5.

Dude I’ve been so ocd about everything except board size. I just recently got back into the life, and have been going nuts on which truck and wheels to skate. Ended up buying 3 decks, 2 sets of Indy stage 11 standard (144 & 149). 3 sets of wheels (spitfire classics 58m 80hd, the formula 4 conical 56m 101a, and finally the BONES 54mm X97) 😢😢😂😂😂😂 Now I just have a mini skate shop, but this is the most comprehensive video that exists on this topic. I’m glad i didn’t waste my money. Well those 101a full conicals were definitely a waste of $46.

While I'm not trying to avoid your vids & neither am I trying to seek them out specifically... YT's algorithm seems to get me where I need to go. This was not the review I was looking for (even though the title is nigh exactly what I searched lol), but I'm psyched to have seen it bc trying to match a new board to years-old Indy 144s and bc Ben has more skills in his little toe than I do in my entirety, I'm glad for yt's ideas. Still, every day is skate day - no snow, no slush sorts of days - in Sun City. So hey Ben, if you ever want to come south of the border, I'm a fan of my town bc 1) it's 12 mos of motorcycle weather (aka skate goodness) + 2) 10 mos of swimming weather (just to give #1 some legit perspective). C'mon down, y'all. ;-)

I've been skating thunder hollows for a few years now; trying out the caliber standard 9" truck though makes me want to maybe try an indie once more since caliber does not make 8.75 axle trucks and that is what I skate. The grinds feel so nice in transition on those 9s though. So much heavier, but also very satisfying.

the only thing i dont like about these trucks is after 8 inch trucks.. your getting into bearing sizes and theres no such thing.. im 31 and older and 6 foot tall now and skate 11.5 size shoes but i would much rather use a smaller wheel and a wider board then mess with the same truck ive been skating for going on twenty years. even tho ive tried the thunder 149s and felt way less knee pain.. the flip tricks are almost not there anymore. i can do them but its all or nothing.. i found if you just widen the board a bit your good with less pain. i only get pain when i match the trucks to board length. always give some extra wood.. learned that after a while of preaching they should match so you could primo. even andrew reynolds skates 8 inch trucks. and hes like 7 feet tall. haha.

Great Skating Ben! Quick question for you...when you boardslide a ledge, do you lock the baseplate of the truck/the back wheels up against the side of the ledge? Or do you make sure to hang the back wheels off the ledge? Its difficult to tell in the video when you do the backside board slide on the ledge if your back wheels are locked up against it or not. On one hand, I can see how doing that would lock you in better but on the other hand, the friction of the deck and all 4 wheels against the ledge seems like a lot of friction. Just wondering what you think the best way to do that is.
@bendegros

I don't slide my back wheels. It actually would be the trucks rubbing not the wheels but you get the idea.
