Indy's always ruled if you skate a lot of transitions, curbs, hills, and parking blocks. It's cool that some of the 80's and 90's stuff people liked is coming back even better. Those look awesome.
Currently using the stage 11 titanium, and swapped out the baseplates for the inverted kingpin ones, gonna pick up a couple sets of the new stage 4s for me and my son.
Every truck manufacturer should adopt the Slappy Trucks model of calling the truck 8", 7.5", etc to match up with the board size. Nothing else makes sense
right dawg? i work at a fuckin zumiez and trying to explain that shit to people is so infuriating and my coworkers end up selling mismatch trucks to people when me or my other homie aren’t there
I've always ridden independent trucks since the 90s at the age of 40+ I'm looking forward to shredding the Stage 4s. Don't forget to support your local skate shops fam that's important. 🤙🏽🌊
This move by Independent was absolutely a kind of F U steal my design to the Tershay and ACE. However, what ACE did was mod the stage 4 design and make them carving better and the truck last longer. So, imo, ACE wins. Indys are a staple of skateboarding culture, but ACE evolved a design and feel much more skateable.
I'm still skating my Ace AF1's from when they initially dropped! The type of metal used on these trucks is significantly more durable than the Indy forged hollow's I was previously skating. I def wanna try a few new trucks that came out recently. These new Stage 4 Indy's, the Ace AF1 hollow's, and the new Slappy trucks!
More durable but that also means they don't grind as well. Softer metals grind smoother, which is the reason that the Tensor Maglights can grind just about any surface without even using wax, because magnesium is a very soft metal. I like the Forged Hollows because it's a good in-between of not being too soft to where they sacrifice durability but also not being so hard as to where it's difficult to grind because the metal has absolutely no give. Just something to keep in mind.
From the front I thought they looked like Thunders. For that turn, it reminds me of Orion trucks from the late 90's. The turn was crazy! and I wish I still had them. Also riding Ventures for years, moving to Orions (that advertised, "turns on a pivot") it took me months to adjust and skate well with a truck that actually turns! Yeah, was 100% street skater back then! ahaha
I used to ride stage 4s back in the day. Sick they are back! I gotta say though, I’ll keep my mag lights and keep grinding the driest, nastiest stuff just to see the looks on my Indy riding homies faces 😂
@@ShredzShop I know! I have no loyalty to them as a brand. I just love how they grind. I mean, they really sucked back in the day with that silly plastic insert in the baseplate, lol! I wish Indy would make mag hangers. That would be the dream come true! I have one more set of mag lights in reserve but the way they grind down they’ll both be gone by mid/end of summer. 🤷♂️
Been riding the ace af1s since they first came out and haven’t went back to Indy’s since , I love the turning on the aces and the look, the longevity of these trucks are amazing and my first thoughts when I saw these new stage 4s was they are trying to compete with ace but with all honestly I would love to try out the turning on these Indy’s but id rather buy a new set of ace haha
I used to be a huge Indy fanboy but I’m loving my Ace AF1s. I want to try the stage 4 reissues but Indy just doesn’t feel like Indy anymore, new logos are weak af too 😂.
It's really crazy to see how the stage 4 made a come back. When I was living in Brazil I got myself a set of stage 4 and stage 5 during the pandemic. If it's something he might want in the future let me know.
My first truck was a stage 4. I still got one. I'd definitely like to cop but I just got 5.8s. I'd mostly like to compare to my og truck. One of these SSI checks tho. -state sponsored old man
I skate 148 thunder hollow lights. I rode Indy’s, ace, Kurx, ventures, GK. You name it I’ve probably at least tried them. I love my thunders but I’m definitely gonna buy a pair of these and try them
Since first getting on a skateboard and learning to Tic Tac in '87 and later getting my 1st own new complete I have been a fan of Independent Trucks all these years and for good reason. They have never let me down and make a quality product that does what it's supposed to do and overall hold up decent depending what type of skating (concrete curbs!) you do. Recently got back into skating (at 42) and bought a pair of Stage 11 and also the Titanium's as well and like both. I'm a little curious about the new Slappy® trucks and maybe getting a pair to try out when I can to see what the hypes about and try something different. I remember the original Stage 4's from long ago now but couldn't remember exactly the cosmetic differences between them. I'll have to grab a pair of these when see em.
Always lots of Tensor love in the comments! Which surprises me cause we don't sell very many. They use a Stg 11 inspired turning geometry on their high trucks.
I'm currently riding Thunders, lights and the standard Team model. I rode Indy's for a good while back in the early 2000s but also, I was riding GK, Kreepers, Krux, Tensors and anything else, I could get. I used to love skating Ventures but I kept breaking baseplates from doing big drops with them. Got Ventures, when I got back into it, like 5 years ago but they were too small...I gave them away. I'll pick a set of these up and give them a try. I'm not stuck with Thunders, I really can get used to anything tbh... I'll drop another comment, when I get them and let you know what I think of them.
I talked to a dude who was skating down the sidewalk on a Gordon and Smith slalom board in near mint condition. I asked him to look at it. It had a pair of Indys with the old clover leaf design on the axle hanger. He said he had just bought it at a garage sale. I suppressed my immediate urge to buy it off him because he would be better off taking up skateboarding. This was 2000 or so before EBay was much of a thing. Life has been plenty kind to me in other ways but damn.
Personally, I think a magnesium Indy hanger would be more beneficial to skaters. But yeah these new Stage 4s are kinda "retro" cool. I got a pair of stage IV 215's in trade back in the early '90s, they looked cool but were too wide for anything current even back then. The back truck stuck out way too much.
NGL im going to look forward to working some indy conical bushings onto these trucks. Some med hards, so i can run them with some "tight feel" with heaps of lean/turn initiate for when needed i bet these puppies will power slide on a dime after that. If these are around long enough i should get my hands on a 8.35" and the 8.65" options, i still havent even skated the Ace/AF1 options at those sizes. Just recently got some 144 mid pro hollows and those were my first 144s/mids/hollows ive ever skated. Took some getting used to from 159s. But now the board feels so much smaller/lighter and responsive. Still bigger axle/hangers are easier to control for airs/gaps and power slides and spin variations. Idk definitely going to have to try these out and see how they feel for some fs/bs airs and half cab blasts to see how they compare between 159 indys and 6.1 ventures which are both pretty fun. Though i couldnt get used to the cylinder/barrel bushing on the stage XI. As a IX/X rider.
I’m excited to see those in action! Only ever seen them in old skate videos and magazine ads. One thing I wish Indy would bring back is the bushing shape used between stages 7 and 10. I either just haven’t broken them in enough but there’s something that just doesn’t feel right with the yellows being made today and the stock orange ones just feel way too soft.
Currently riding Venture 6.1 HI with their shorter bushing that makes the Ventures more squirrelly. These Indys look cool but they keep making me think of the Ace Classic trucks. hopefully my local gets these in so I can look at them.
@@SkateGirlAndrea I'm surprised Ace would make low trucks. Seems like wheel bite would be an issue considering how turny they are. I thought they were based on Stage 3 Indy.
@idmhead0 I'm glad they did. I like to skate everything and make up stuff. Very good for flipping into coping while still being turny for transition. I'm not big or heavy, so that helps me. They have low hard bushings as well. They work great from my perspective and turn great like any Ace.
I got a pair of Slappy's recently and not to throw shade at any other truck companies out there but these things are great. I've tried em all from GrindKings to Phantoms to everything in between, you name it. Good trucks are good trucks
Currently riding the Slappys! Digging them for now. Would be interested to see a turning comparison with the Stage 4s and Aces. I usually ride Ace due to the amazing turning.
@@ShredzShop The aces for me turned amazing as soon as I bought them. The slappys definitely had a break-in period, but I think now I find them to be almost as good but not quite. I find them to turn better than Indy Stage 11 but not as good as the aces. I really like the truck overall, and I'm having a great time skating them.
@Shredz Shop ya had to get em from the ccs catalog so came from Oregon and my welcome board I got was so warped I will never buy a board online ever again as just shipping over seas I've heard can warp boards. But I do love my 90s Era royals. :)
Interesting trucks!! I ride venture 5.8 raw 90% of the time, im so used to the kind of pop and also the way they crooked or pinched. But i got also 149 forged hollow and 149 standard indy on 14.5 wheelbase i like it but i have harder time with my crooked. Thunder too low for me and the wheel on the nose slide bother me, i know that i just need to be better lol!!!
haha love the madness! Venture is one of the few trucks I've never skated. But they're been getting a lot of love on here, so Im curious to try a pair.
How's the nose slides and boardslides the flatness in the baseplate on the inside combined with that really angled outer baseplate idk why but it looks like itll hang up super hard on a disaster or rock to fakie really easily and give really sharp noseslides it's probably me just being crazy and falling for thunders recently but idk
Back when I was younger all I skated was indies. I got back into skating last year after not skating for like 13 years. I immediately got indies but after awhile decided I wanted to get other trucks to branch out and see what I'd like or not like. Still on the indies but have a set of Thunders and Ventures on a deck for when I'm ready to switch set ups. I kinda wanna snag these just to have them though lol.
When is Venture going to release OG trucks? They looked completely different back then. Thunder were way different back then too. And shops should start carrying Tracker as well. Thunder and Venture don't even bother making 6 hole baseplates.
I’m on 159 forged titanium. The sizes seem to compliment the stage 11 range, turn seems rad and I love my 58mm spits. However, the weight ain’t great. Will stay tuned for a hollow/titanium version. Indy for life.
Last Indy’s I had had the pivot cup hole drilled way off center. Never liked the standard Indy turning radius and weight. I like ace’s, and grinded a bunch of thunders down to the axle back in the day. Next pair will probably be slappy’s, but these look pretty good too.
I used to sk8 the original ones back then a kid.. now 48. But then I now have collected 80s and 90s sk8boards and parts. But like you said the stage 4 og on ebay is massive expensive. So I can't get any of them. But I wish venture would reissue set there old trucks and also thunder.. but wish tracker reissue there aggro trucks.. but I got the og of all them except indy stage 4 .. I got thunder to cutter to San Diego to tracker to og krux trucks. You name it. It's just so many the original indys from the 70 threw early 90s are costly.. but I was glad I collected the different kinds of different companies of trucks and boards.. and wheels
Yeah, I've been wishing Venture would release OGs. They looked way different back then. Thunder was way different as well. Tracker still makes their OG trucks. Last time I checked, they only had them in small sizes though.
Indy makes conversion kits for people to put mids in (reverse kingpin) , but I think these trucks won't be able to simply cause of it's shape where the pivot cup is, it's narrow
I rode the OG Indy 4s back in the day when I had way less fear and I didn’t like the change to stage 5s so over the years I’ve tried every brand of trucks, kinda into Ace, Krux & Venture these days.
Man, these seem made for me. My 12 year old Indy Stage 10s on my trick board feel like they don't turn at all compared to the Gullwing's on my Polar cruiser. These are right up my alley!
@@brooklynogsk8r890 I remember having like two pairs. Didn't really think much of how bad they were lol. I guess everything is relative. Now I have ridden more gear, I know a bit more of what I like. My style back then was more suited to them. More tic tacky 😅. I like riding my king pin nut barely hanging one with soft bushings now. Didn't get how some friends back then would do it
@@micksterminator3 My statement above may really not be fair. I skate mostly transition with a surf/carve style. My Stage 10s are set up on an deck with a 16" WB that I really didn't skate much. When compared to my 14 3/4" WB setups (one with Stage 11s and one with Ace Classics), the Stage 10s just don't turn the way I like. That WB difference may be a major factor 🤷🏻♂. All these trucks have their stock bushings tightened down maybe a 3/4 turn or less.
Anyone else notice that Stage 4 ad @1:57, has the front truck backwards! Wtaf? I've never tried it in my 30 odd years of skating but that sure af wont work will it?
@@idmhead0160 I don't recall saying otherwise... I said I take the hangers from Stage XI Titaniums and combine them with the forged baseplates and inverted kingpins from forged mids. That way my set of titaniums still have the same axel height and forged baseplate as normal stage XI titaniums as well as an inverted kingpin. Just using the inverted kingpin conversion set from Indy gives you a non-forged baseplate that is 1.5mm thicker than the forged one.
@@bobisadrummer I do something similar on a board, except for hollows. I needed a 6 hole baseplate, but, wanted the hollow kingpin to match the hollow axle. You basically need to buy two sets of trucks to do it. In my case, luckily, already had the trucks. Would be nice if Independent sold the forged baseplates separately. And made 6 hole forged baseplates as well. Would kind of be nice if they just made all of them 6 hole.
I just got these and set them on on a new everslick and I love the way they look but in the middle of a snowstorm so haven’t been able to skate yet, but when I look at these trucks from a side view and they honestly look like they might hang up on a smith g. I’m already thinking about switching out the baseplate even if it fucks with geometry
It's for old school decks. The spacing on the bolts used to be different. They moved the bolts back so that they wouldn't snag on obstacles when you do tricks like blunt slides. Some reissue decks have the old bolt pattern.
Mmmmm...... Interesting. I've used Indys since the seventies. Only trying out the odd occasional different trucks from time to time to see if there was anything better. Currently using a set of stage threes. Mostly because I can fit copers on them. Lol. After stage five Indy started messing around with the baseplate as well as the hanger. I've found, so far, that each hanger will fit in each plate along the stages. Turning on them is definitely better until the stage five. Where it seems to drop off a bit. I use redrilled stage five plates and they seemed to work fine with everything anyway. Around the stage eight Indy moved the pivot and kingpin forward by around three to four millimetres by my reckoning and completely buggered up the turning geometry of the truck. They actually feel more like Thunders or Ventures. That's probably because the hanger sits over the pivot more than it used to. The earlier Indys used to have the hanger sitting almost in the middle of the plate. Which is probably why they turned so good. Ace has compensated for the movement forward of the pivot and kingpin by moving the bolt holes forward as well. So it still feels like the hanger is centered over the plate. I've only really liked the Indy conical bushings and usually just swop the stock ones for some Bones yellow anyway. It would be interesting to see if there's any real change in the new (?) stage fours. As I suspect that they're still using the stage ten/eleven plates on them. Which means that they'll probably turn more like a stage eleven than an original stage four and yes. I've used both.
