Harper lost FIVE MILLION conservative votes. He lost TWO seats in ALBERTA to the liberals. He had to go home to campaign in Calgary because it was possible he was going to lose his own seat. You think your fooling anybody that as a conservative you suddenly give a shit about homelessness or young peoples rent? When the conservatives federally AND provincially have rejected every policy to help them?
@esperago

Agreed, however... the sole reason we have had Trudeau and the NDP coalition for so many years is because of how women think and then (subsequently) vote. It's women that out us in this shīttēr. @mikearchibald744
@mikearchibald744 6 месяцев назад
@@esperago Urban voters vote liberal. And AGAINST the conservaties. It certainly is not just women in urban settings. And you SHOULD know that the reason we don't have a conservative govenment is the ELECTORAL SYSTEM. When MORE people vote one party and it comes second, then someting is seriously wrong. The whole basis of democracy is what the majority want. And THAT is due to Trudeau, and yet conservatives NEVER seem to complain about that. Actually what we have right now is likely as good as we can get. An unpopular government is a more representative one. I don't think Pollievre has said a sensible thing yet but geting polls going his way is great for democracy. It will be MUCH worse in a conservative govenrment, in particular a majority one, because that is 'by definition' more authoritarian. Even with a majority the liberals left MOST of the details of cannabis regulation to the provinces. And people forget the feds gave the provinces the choice of either a carbon tax or a cap and trade system. THtas with a MAJORITY. THe conservativse tend to argue much more authoritatively, which is why most of their legal legislation from Harper ended up getting tossed by the supreme court.

Harper was despised by the majority of Canadians. The Harper Conservative government had the worst economic and jobs creation record of any gov since WW2. He inherited a $12+ billion surplus and turned it into a deficit in less than 2 years (before the recession hit). During that terrible Harper government - a total of 17 Conservatives ran afoul of the law. The Harper Conservative government was fined for breaking election laws. It was caught misleading parliament, gagging civil servants, subverting parliamentary committees, muzzling scientists, harassing the Supreme Court, gagging diplomats, lying to the public, concealing evidence of potential crime, spying on opponents, bullying and smearing disabled veterans, and more. Harper was even held in contempt of parliament - a first for Canada and the Commonwealth.
@Laissez-faire402

You were doing so well in the first paragraph, then you just started parroting Liberal/NDP/Green talking points. There are good reasons to criticize Harper, but 'muzzling civil servants' isn't one of them. Corrupt, faceless bureaucrats aren't muzzled enough. The worst thing about Harper is the way he reveals how many Canadians still have the wrong priorities, and an absurdly naive view of the world. People like you need to get out of your head that Harper's worst sin was not promoting Canada some bastion of self-absorbed, self-righteous progressivism.

@@Laissez-faire402 So, with that short list of Harper Conservative malfeasance you took exception to gagging civil servants? You seemed to be acknowledging reality until you started parroting Conservative talking points. If civil servants have something to reveal about the government - then it's never a good thing to gag them. Gagging government officials is the actions of a Conservative government steering towards the far right. A political party that doesn't believe in government, and in open government in particular - has no business forming one.

While Harper was way better than any Liberal Politician, he had his foibles but he did protect Canada better than Mulroney, PET and Chretien and Martin. Not only that, unlike his former Conservative counterpart, Mulroney, he did not raise taxes or put Canada is such economic peril by spending frivolously! One thing to be sure, never vote any Conservatives if they were born east of the prairie provinces because they are more socialistic / communist government than anything else! If the people want the PPC, they are party non grata because their leader is a joke, PERIOD. The fact that Maxime hasn't been really fighting for us since the last election was in October 2021 and is always criticizing Poillievre instead of going after Trudeau, basically says it all. Why are you going after a politician that is not yet elected or running for election. PP will run but the problem is not Pollievre, the problem is Trudeau and that is whom he should be attacking! Maxime did not get to the masses very well and did not push his agenda enough and basically was gone by the last election. I have not heard much from him since! Let us be realistic here Canadians, the bottom line is the Conservatives are the only party that can beat the Liberals and you have to choose from the lesser of 2 evils and the lesser of 2 evils are the Conservative Party of Canada.
