20 years ago i have watched this match in TV as a school kid.....now my wife ask me why i watch these old cricket matches in youtube.......how i can explain to her that these are part of my dearest childhood memories
Don't think women will ever understand . Even men who grew up after 2000 don't realise how fanatic cricket fans were in the 90s. India cricket had peaked in that era and there were legends , Lara, Tendulkar, Anwar, Azar, Jayasurya, Arvinda so many top players. Absolute batting gold.

Childhood memories. In this series,the games used to start at 4.30 PM and end by 12 AM😊 Many new players were tried in this tournament like Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe. Players like Nikhil Chopra and MSK Prasad also made their debut and had a little career in Indian team unlike Khoda and Paranjpe who never played for India again. Also, in one of the games against Bangladesh in this series Paras Mhambrey was also there. Unforgettable memories. Thanks a tonn.
Khoda just played just two games scored 26 & 89 he should have been tried more seriously !!!! if he had played few international ODIs along with Sachin he could have shaped him better & been a better reserve opener for odis at least
nsundu123 Yes Sir. But I feel at that time Indian team made changes only when it was needed during injuries. There were no variations done as far as players were. Almost same team for many years. Even Rahul Dravid was not a permanent member of Indian ODI team until he proved it in 1999 WC.
yeh those Days Dravid used to play slowley when Sachin was injured due to back injury he came 1 Drop i think those Series Khoda must have been tried instead of Ramesh ( atleast for ODIS) tri series i mean , that was the problem those day no player was in the reserves , so when team had issues we had to adjust with what we had , even Khoda was tried when Sachin was rested after hectic Sharjah series sachin was rested for first 2 games when sachin game ganguly fell sick & Sidhdhu came as the opener
The tnmnt was played during month of may which was a rarity then and also during one of the hottest summers in recent memory. I think thats why the start was delayed.

This burning sensation in my ears can only be caused by Sanjay Manjrekar commentary. I am 1990 born and I saw him play the 96 world cup. He was reasonably young at that time. So he retired and took up commentary by 31/32. Hum iss Manjrekar ko 20 saal se jheel rahe hain.

Nowadays no one is watching the match between India and Kenya and Zimbabwe but,in 90's era both India and Zimbabwe were sailed in the same boat,so we had watched this type of matches too.

First time in his entire career Sachin was given Rest in his career and Khoda was tried as they didn't want Sachin to take much load due to 1998 schedule!!! Again due to over schedule he got back problem in Newzeland tour and that really hurt india badly in 1999 WC!!!! Bench strength and Squad mgmt not correct!! They should have made him to rest in Gwalior ODI also and directly played in finals!!!! But those days bench strength concept wasn't there if it was I'm Damn sure india would have been a Strong team!!!!
In class12th then i watched sachin hits only odi hundred at eden gardens against kenya.in previous match we lost the match against them.so its the time for revenge. Quarantine time

Ah the good old days...BCCI used to keep tournaments involving weak teams like Kenya Bangladesh who at that time were minnows of world cricket. Of course they were of international standards and Kenya had even defeated WI in 96 WC. BCCI said that they used this tournament to check for New talent but in reality it was more to get a victory for India. Cricket was rare and extreme pressure against Indian players to secure wins esp against pak n Aus n S.A..
In 90's only 13 test and 30 to 35 Odi's played in an year . In that ony some of Odi telecast or played on holiday. Means we eager to watch matches in those days. Most memorable era of life . No RU-vid channel , no anchoring before and after matches
Those days cricket was passion and enjoyable to watch. Nowadays cricket lost its charm and glamour due to excessive commercialisation,T20 and IPL. Nobody is interested to watch cricket nowadays.
