I wonder why India never manged to win ODIs vs pakistan those days. Disaster management, Terrible captaincy, Nayan Mongia opened, Ganguly came to bat at no 8 . Worst bowling & team selection. Everything changed after 2000.
Because there was no lighting at the ground. I remember Zimbabwe playing India in an one-day series with red ball during the 2000 Indian home cricket season. There has to be a mutual consent between the two boards.
What had happened in 1996 just happened but in 1999 India dazzlingly won sahara cup 4-1 in torronto and this time it was Sourav Ganguly's series.4 Man of the match and a man of the series award to Ganguly for his 222 runs and 15 wickets in just 5 matches.

Cricket was good till 2001 June - July . Then it got boring after Ind vs WI , Ind vs eng , Ind vs zim. Still I feel 96 to 99 was an overload ( 60 % ) of games. Few matches is fine .

Those days when Saurav Ganguly was send in no 6 or 7 th position and useless players like Jadeja and kambli was send ahead of him . .. even didn't understood the logic when spinner like Saqlin was bowling, what is the use of sending Srinath, while Ganguly was available as batsman?

There was no wicket keeper batsman concept..those days WK was merely a kaam chalao batsman...that was the biggest dis advantage and yhe defensive mindset of the players inherited from.poliyical issues was a mjor factor...Kapil was one player who was fearless
Such crap bowling by indian those days this indian team were bowling crap and loose such matches which as to been won.... So much leg stump bowling in that 85℅ were converted into boundaries such loose bowls make the opposition teams pressure ease ....those days were headaches to see indian team playing from 96 to 99.....but in between 98 the sachin was in brilliant form after he given up his captaincy to azhar and he was freely to play his natural game... in those days sachin was the key player in the team and he tooks lots of pressure and do perform every time but rest of players like chala toh thik nahi agle match mein dekhte hain.... But after 99 when ganguly tooks captaincy then indian cricket changed in totally different and we were like to compete any team in there home ground. ...bcoz of ganguly our indian cricket changed and played aggressively till now we are playing In aggressive manner..
