Hemanta Kumar had a heart of gold and a voice of heaven. Not only was he a great singer, but also a prolific composer, responsible for many beautiful songs. I feel fortunate to have been born in Bengal and to be Bengali, as it allowed me to listen to his numerous Bengali compositions. Some of my favourite songs sung and composed by him include 'Woh Sham Kuchh Ajeeb Thi,' 'Jane Woh Kaise Log The,' 'Yeh Nain Dare Dare,' 'Na Tum Hamen Jano,' 'Yaad Kiya Dil Ne,' 'Beqarar Karke Hamen Yun Na Jaiye,' 'Hai Apna Dil To Aawara,' and 'Ganga Aaye Kahaan Se.' Additionally, there's a very popular Bengali song composed by Salil Choudhury and sung by Hemanta Kumar called 'Gayer Bodhu.' This song transformed Bengali music, and during one event, Salil Choudhury remarked, 'If God were to sing 'Gayer Bodhu,' he would sing it as Hemanta Kumar did; he had a voice of heaven.'"

Want to correct Shekhar: The film Nagin was in 1951 and Hemant Kumar won the Filmfare award for the Best Music Director. It’s a great feeling listening to these young girls singing the old songs. This is proof enough that singers of those days are being remembered even after 73 years.
