Foxconn is just as assembly company. TSMC is the only company doing semiconductor fabrication at 4nm and finer. Edit: I learned that while Foxconn traditionally has been a pure assembly player, they’re entering into 28nm semiconductor fabrication space with a planned fab in Gujarat based on a IMEC technology license.

It doesn't depend on country, it depends on skilled employees, machinery and equipments. Already india is global manufacturing hub with many companies maintaining quality at 6 sigma level and productivity at 2 to 3 times more than USA and Europe and at 25%cost.

Just yesterday Tata announced their huge investment in an iPhone manufacturing facility. India will get to those targets if such big business houses are involved. The food poisoning episode in the Tamilnadu facility reeks of conspiracy.
India needs to fix below issues: 1. Unemployment 2. Increase per capita consumption 3. Build infrastructure in TIER 2 and TIER 3 cities. Funds are flowing in India but a lot of youth is still unemployed leading to heinous crimes. Most of the youth is from Tier 2 and Tier 3. Building Infrastructure there will be great since it will give opportunities to the youth since FIIs will be attracted there. India needs so much to be done but media keeps saying we are on the map. Sadly we are way behind. Elon and Trump talked for 2 hours and 4 minutes. Modi or India was not mentioned once. Russia, China, Mexico all were mentioned. Therefore, India is decades behind Singapore in the electronics and semiconductor industry. Tiny Singapore accounts for 10% of the global chips output and 20% of the chip making equipment.
