"Aadat" is originally a song of the album Aadat of the Pakistani band Jal. It was the first version released in 2004. Later it was released in several different versions later. It was also used in the Bollywood films Kalyug as the title Juda hoke bhi/ Aadat, Chocolate as the title Zahreeli Raatein. In the first album, another song was there named Bikhra Hoon Main which is another version of Aadat. (its a Pakistani Song)

Like everyone is saying, you need to do your homework before reactions. Goher and Atif were “Jal.” It was a two man band in 2003. Goher wrote the lyrics and composed Aadat, it was his creation. Atif sang it. A big dispute happened between the two, lots of bad behavior, etc. The band broke up. Goher recruited Farhan Saeed and Shazi to form Jal The Band. Atif released an album “Jal Pari” (2004) before Jal could release theirs - with all of Goher’s compositions (Aadat, Dil Haray, Woh Lamhe, Jal Pari, etc). Goher filed a lawsuit and won. Atif was no longer allowed to perform these songs in Pakistan......hence began Atif’s Bollywood career. He went to India with “Aadat.” (2005) But when Mahesh Bhatt found out about the lawsuit, he included Jal the band’s version in the Kalyug album as well to avoid a problem. Farhan, Goher and Shazi has a devoted following as well while Atif became very successful both in India & Pakistan alike. A few years ago, Farhan left Jal to pursue new things. Now seemingly all 3 guys are friends and get along well with no controversies. Farhan & Goher sing AND act while Atif is doing his big things. Phew. The reason he didn't sing the main chorus of aadat is because this is an artistic piece of music, sort of experimental, hence the majority of the track showcases instruments, in fact the short vocals here complement the music too rather than vice versa, which is the case in most commercial music. Copyrights aren't an issue here, Goher composed the original song way back when aadat was released by his band Jal, which Atif was a part of then.

Then Atif Aslam left the band and formed his own band with the name "JAL PARI" and sung Adat - Solo version and it was a huge hit. Then Atif Aslam sung that song for Bollywood. This song is about 2 songs, Aadat (Instrumental) + Bhanwray (Vocal). In fact they have fused both songs together in such a great synchronization that you didn't even realize that they were 2 different songs. That's why they never sung Aadat song (coz it was meant to be instrumental only) and Bhanwray song was fused in Aadat's instrumental symphony. So no point of copyright. And Aadat was originally written and composed by Gohar Mumtaz himself but was sung by Atif Aslam (coz they were together as a band during that time). It was later that Atif Aslam left the band and released a remake version of Aadat for Bollywood. The violin like instrument you were talking about is called "Sarangi".
