It's Rabbit(china) vs Tortoise (india). Main Reason to slow growth of India is there is lot of outside and inside problems. outside problems - socialist, Islamist, West, Christianity (Vatican), China. All of these work together Inside problems - government that India had for last 70 years, judiciary, bureaucrats (corruption and incompetency), bad education system, current government (can win elections but they are somewhat stupid) India's democratic process allow all of this to happen.

Yeah Hindi is actually not the national language. India has 22 official languages and two are used for government communication and bureaucracy - to make things easier.

I understand states not wanting central rule but they could have made a confederation at least for safety from foreign invasions like the British or some military alliance.
