This video made my day! My wife's beautiful home town. I have spent some really happy times with my in laws in beautiful Kalimpong. Pity about the cloud cover on the day, which you often find there, but when the clouds lift, the views of the snow peaked Himalayas are truly epic. The drive up the Teesta River valley from Siliguri to Kalimpong is one of my all time favourites. Thanks Karl for showing this fantastic hill station in all its glory! 🇮🇳

Kalimpong is one of my favorite districts in all of India. I have been there many times. There is a Tibetian Monestry about 35 km from Kalimpong in a little village called Lava.

places to be in WB other than Kolkata: Starting from South 1.Gangasagar Island (It's an island right in the mouth of Hoogly River and getting there is really interesting. You'll have to take all modes of transportation from a train to a boat) 2. Sundarbans and Camping at Mousuni Islands 3. Puruliya (Baranti and other parts of Chotanagpur Plateau) 4. Ajyodhya hills 5. Bishnupur 6. Santiniketan (Tagore's home) 7. Gangani (grand canyon of WB) 8. Malda (Farakka Barrage) 9. Doars (large area consisting of Tons of Wildlife reserves like Jaldapara, Buxa, etc.) There are tons of more places but these are among the most common ones. P.S I deliberately left out Digha, because it's not worth it anymore, but you sure can try Mondarmoni.

BabaSaheb Ambedkar was Marathi and not Bengali. Surname ending with kar is generally for people from Maharashtra. E.g Ambedkar, Tendulkar, Wadekar, Achrekar, Mageshkar, Ovalekar etc. Except when its just Kar, which is when it is Bengali. e.g Dr. Soumyadeep Kar

Hey...I am also from Kalimpong and m glad that u liked your visit. It's a beautiful place with amazing view and friendly people all around....the white thing that u saw is locally prelared 'yeast'. The market u visited is called 'Haat Bajar' and the vegetables that were being sold are 90% organic grown by local people. The language we speak is Nepali and our cousins are quite different from the rest of West Bengal even India. We prefer eating simple and plain food with very less spices but we use quite a lot of chillies in pretty much every dish (may be also because of the weather). The 'Fambi' that u ate is one of the unique snack of Kalimpong which u only see here...it does not have a great taste of itself but if u mix it properly with 'Alu Dum' and the 'Chutny' that u were given, it tastes fav. The 'Chicken Fahle' is my favourite but I prefer it with plain chicken similar to that of 'Momo' than the masala one that u ate....Simple version tastes much better. Do try it next time. Hey Karl the Shya Phalay, the closest I can come to comparing it is the Empanada. The filling is the same as momo but it's flat and braided and deep fried. The Tai Po is similar to the Chinese Bao buns. It's savoury with mince meat and boiled egg with a soft fluffy skin. Kalimpong local ✌️
