on holiday its hard to find the train but normally you can buy on same day and some trains like g12 g 32 they are so fast takes only 4 hour Beijing shanghai it need to book advance. The D one is old generation white one was joint made and this trian is fuxing class totally chinese tech and made by them , Chinese train travel faster than Japanese

The speeds have increased over the years. I took the bullet train in 2010 from Guangzhou to Wuhan and the experience was overwhelming. At the time the speed was around 200kmph.
