In my opinion 0:43-1:20 is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard; the knight waving to them knowing he has to stay behind waiting all this time... gets me every freaking time.
I watched the movie a few days ago. To me it looked like the knight waved to them in gratitude. Then breathed a sigh of relief that his task was finally done.
The hair on my scalp literally stood on its ends when 0:43 began ... it truely captures something biblical and religious .... (even though I'm not religious but I felt something divinely inspirational there .. )
What makes 'The Last Crusade' stand out for me, is that the film is about so much more than a treasure hunt. I love 'Raiders', and consider it a flawless masterpiece. However, the relationship between Indy and his dad in 'Last Crusade' does add another layer of depth to the plot. The true moment of triumph in the movie is not the finding of the Grail, but the reconciliation between father and son at the end. At that moment, both Indy and his dad realise that the mending of their broken relationship is far more important than all the glories the Grail can offer.
Kjetil Hansen tarded George Lucas wanted the end to be about the grail but my man Spielberg made it the father son reconciliation. Bless Spielberg’s heart
2:05 Marcus-"Indy! Henry! Follow me I know the way! HA!" Henry-"got lost in his own museum hm?" Indy' Yeah" Henry-"After you junior" Indy-"Yes Sir HYA!" FAVORITE PART
@@alexsmyth17 Henry: You DOLT! You think my son would be that stupid? Bringing my diary here? *stops laughing* You didn't, did you? You didn't bring it, did you?
*After Smashing Him Over Head with Vase* 'Junior?' *Indie gets up, turning around* 'Yes sir...' *Henry smiles* 'It is you Junior...' *Indie rolls his eyes* 'Don't call me that, please'
May Sean Connery rest in peace. He was really a gem in this movie, he just really fits being Harrison Fords dad and it makes the movie even better. He was a legend 'Let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky'
No pudiste haberlo dicho MEJOR 👏👏 Sir Sean Conery era el PERFECTO para hacer el papel del Padre de Indi, el Gran Henry Jones 1ero.... Que Descanse en Paz el Gran Sean Conery...
I guess I'm nostalgic but I always held this film in the highest regards. To me, it was hands-down the best Indiana Jones film. I'll never forget the first time I saw it.
@@Top_Hat_Man Bernard Hermann, Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, John Barry... Williams is a legend but these guys all give him a run for his money
This sequel got nominated for Best Original Score and for a very good reason. This is truly John Williams at his best, the movie would not have been nearly as epic as it was without his work, or any of the Spielberg films for that matter.
Rest in Peace, Sir Sean Connery. A spy, a knight, an explorer and many other roles filled your career and made many people very happy & excited. Rest easy.
1:20 oh my goooood I'm crying. Good old days playing Lego Indiana Jones on the psp chilling out in the University building hitting up different characters ❤️
Same! This film has so many amazing memories for me as well. It's something, no matter what happens to me in my life, that I'll hold so dearly. Perfect. Brilliant. Amazing.
Thanks to my father, I loved this movie as well. He once drew a picture into my diary when I was a child, like from Jones ´ diary - the knight doing the step of faith over the pit. I will keep this and my dad deeply in my heart! I wish he was still around!
same this music reminds me of when i used to go fishing with my dad, i do still, its just not as much. also reminds me of me and my bff, we had crazy times together, but he moved away.
It's so sad to me that we will never see movies like this again... Indiana Jones grew up to become one of my favorite series of all time. I love it better than Star Wars. Nowadays, you don't see the kind of action you used to see in the movies of this era. Thank you Lucas and Spielberg, for you made the best family adventure movies of all time.
I'll always cherish the first time I saw this in a theater with my Dad right after my eighth grade graduation. Definitely one of those seminal, transitional, milestone films in a life.
It's funny, I had the exact same experience. I saw it as a kid with my dad in a theater, and now, as an adult, every time I hear the moment at 0:43, I get tears in my eyes. Like right now :)
Jack Torrance How about me, the first movie I ever saw as a kid was Raiders. My dad took me when I must have been only 4. I barely understood what was going on but lots of the iconic images were burned into my brain, especially the opening temple scene, the snakes in the pit and the climax of opening the ark. Of course he took me to see Temple of Doom and Last Crusade as well (in 7th grade by that time). And I also saw Crystal Skull with my parents. Just waiting for a 5th one now.
This music never ceases to move me. When I think of that moment when Indy and his father, along with Brody and Sallah ride into the sunset, I can't help but weep in happiness and joy.
HoboJoe2016 i think it was great.... tho my favorite is last crusade cuz i like the farher son thing. Witch also comes back in Crystal Skull, with Mutt And Indy
nutsaqtheduksaq wooooow! I think it was good. Not great, But very good! I love the whole paranormal setting with all the aliens And stuff! But my personal favorite is last crusade...
ASM Movie Productions and I respect your opinion and take it into consideration but he was getting to old and they started implementing more terrible cgi in the movie which isn’t Indiana jones
I was literally listening to this when a notification popped up reading that dear Mr Connery has died. Ironic but incredibly sad at the same time. RIP Sean Connery, Godspeed you incredible man, we will miss you. ❤️
I've seen quite a few comments here talking about people's relationships with their dad, and how this film is a cherished memory. It warms my heart knowing I'm not the only one: me and my dad used to love watching Last Crusade. He died six years ago, and whenever I hear that beautiful fanfare, reminiscent of the glory attributed to God and the adventure that has always been a part of religious history, it takes me back to the times we would watch films like these. Free from my mother's abuse and jobs and worries. We'd just enjoy an archaeologist punching Nazis and finding treasured artifacts. I miss those simple pleasures
Yeah. The very first and only one original James Bond :) Did you know that Indiana Jones in 2nd movie, Hong Kong scene, wears the same white outfit like James Bond in Dr. No (played by none other than Sir Sean Connery)?
@@CZghost Bond was always a sort of inspiration for Indy yes, George Lucas always said that. Part of the reason he and Spielberg wanted Connery for the father in last crusade was Bond quite literally being the "father" to Indy in terms of inspiration. But just to correct you on one thing: the white tuxedo Indy wears in Shanghai is actually based on what Sean wears in Goldfinger not Dr No 😊
All people involved in the making of this movie were at their peaks. I had the luck of seeing it in my local cinema at the age of 10 and left in awe. Pure cinematic magic.
I kinda wish he hadn't used it up, because to me, it's the perfect piece for the Jedi Council in the prequel movies. (The music was great in those movies, if nothing else.)
+Mr Duke Silver I just like all of John Williams' stuff, and I feel like the old, grand, and ancient feeling of 0:41 fits with a line like "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic." I know that's a line from the original movies, but it evokes the feeling of something old, powerful, and forgotten. And, unfortunately, the first time we see the Jedi Temple/Jedi Council is in the prequels, so that's where the music might come in. Hope that clarifies what I'm saying?
When I was little I grew up watching and thinking that this was the only Indiana Jones film until I saw the other two but this is my favorite one...this is my favorite soundtrack...I'm in tears at how amazing this song is.
I remember being little watching this, being raised in a Catholic family and being introduced to Catholicism around the same time I watched this as a kid. It definitely influenced me to stay Catholic. The Holy Grail, Last Supper, Communion all being the center of Catholic Mass as well as this movie. It also influenced me for my love of archeology and world history. Definitely my favorite trilogy of all time, this one being my favorite of the original three.
Actually, after re-watching it my opinion has changed but I do still like it. Everyone always says how dum and stupid the ending was to 4 with the aliens. Now just take a moment to think about the ending to 3. There was a man who had been living for thosands of years!
I love this theme, it plays every time the Holy Grail is referred to or presented in the film, absolutely brilliant. There’s an extended version of this available with it’s various formats throughout.
My favorite Indiana Jones movie of all time!! I’ve loved Indiana Jones since childhood and this one has always been my favorite, it’s the one my Dad grew watching the most and this makes me think of my Dad and I and the adventure of Indiana Jones we have together, I love you forever Dad! One of my favorite movies of all time!! Love this so much!!❤️❤️
I've just watched last crusade again. The feeling of nostalgia and joy is impossible to describe in words, master William's music affects me in the way my mind can't understand. One of the best movies ever made, such films are not being done nowadays. Truly a masterpiece!
Indiana Jones was a masterpiece that raised cinematic standards drastically. The movies were cornerstones of my childhood and that made Harrison Ford my hero. Indiana Jones to me, is more than a franchise of perfect movies, it’s more than a masterpiece, it literally inspires me. It brings nostalgia to me of my childhood: playing LEGO Indiana Jones and enjoying the simpler times. It is hands down, the best movie franchise that will ever have been made in my opinion.
@@ricus78 I don't know, maybe you're right, but Harrison Ford was not the problem with the last Indiana Jones movie, although I do realize that was like ten years ago now. My, how quickly time has passed. They should have made Indy 5 a few years ago, like five, when they had the chance.
First of all, Harrison Ford is old and tired, he won't be playing Indy anymore. And if he would, you don't expect him to fight nazis again, when an older Indy was portrayed during cold war? If they make Indiana Jones 5, I'd simply predict it would be a reboot series instead and yet again numbered from number 1. Without Harrison Ford, it won't be great Indiana Jones like in 1984-1989 (the first 3 movies, the fourth was not that great). Or, they may make sequels with his son instead. The last scene of The Kingdom of Crystal Skull quite implied Henry Jones 3rd could be the next Indiana Jones, right? And his dad would occasionally show up :)
I had a cassette tape of this movie's soundtrack back in 1989. I would go to sleep hugging my stereo while this played, night after night. I was 7, too young to see it in theaters, so this was as close as I could get. I knew every single note by heart. I had seen Raiders, Temple of Doom on VHS, and I had also seen King Solomon's Mines and I did not care it wasnt Indy. I loved those adventure films back then.
Elsa: You came back for the book? Why? Indy: My father didn't want it incinerated. Elsa: Is that what you think of me? I believe in the Grail, not the swastika. Indy: But you stood to be accounted with the enemy of everything the Grail stands for. Who gives a DAMN what you think? Elsa: You do!
Movie franchises works best as a trilogy, beyond that things starts to go downhill .. and you must not have too big a time gap between each sequel because everyone starts to lose touch and forget how the magic used to work ...
Thank God they never made a fourth one. What next, you gonna tell me we got Russian villains, Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son, and a hunt for aliens? Pff, sounds like shit, one can only imagine 😳
Williams' mix of styles is very curious. 00:22 is a perfectly coplandesque theme, but 00:44 is a modal hymn-like tune close to Vaughan-Williams. 01:22 seems to amalgamate these two styles. Amusing :)
My Nana's favorite of the franchise was The Last Crusade. I always watch it every now and then in memory of her, in addition to the movie being just amazing.
