He’s a third center with a theoretical chance of improving. This another decent job of addressing need while staying on their timeline. It’s low risk high reward. Again for a third center, it’s intriguing. He had a few flashes against Boston and Philly last year.
This is already a underestimated/yet calculated move from the front office. Last season I saw wiseman play against the pacers and he played well. He played a bunch of good games against good/great opponents. I know he played just 4 the pistons but i believe his level will increase because of the quality of teammembers and team overall (coaching staff incl). If he doesn't play (he's 3rd center) that means that Jackson elevated his game 2 the next level...which is a great evo. If wiseman plays it means he took the chance with both hands and is busting turner and jacksons.... and was rewarded by the team overall. He will strenghten the bench evenmore, and balance out the gameplay minutes over a long season. It will be thuf though... Smith was great but had defensive (fysi) flaws.... Wiseman will help on def side which incl the rebounding issues the team has. His screening and inside scoring? Not 2 bad in my humble oppinion😊 I hope this add will balance the team evenmore... I think its a very good young addition. The pacers have a (good) reputation of picking up players who had great potential but never achieved those expectations. He's ready 2 pick it up a nutch. Pacer fans should be excited.
It would be a hilarious turn of events for him to improve for us and be the guy he was drafted to be. And if he can improve defensively, he's the biggest guy on the team and someone who might eventually be able to handle bigger centers.
Signing makes sense. We need a back up center who is a bigger body than Isiah. Pacers love to find value in players with potential that has not materialized yet on other teams. Realistically could blossom into a good back up center who can make some special moves here and there. Hoping for some rebounding and reduction on turnovers and injuries. All them lobs should help him feel comfy at least.
James Wiseman’s hustle stats per 36 minutes rate well. Good pickup by the Pacers. Also his presence in the paint will and does alter shots even though he is not the fastest processor on defense.
Personally I think Wiseman is a good pick for a backup role. I don't have the numbers in terms of his salary but I feel its not much. For some event that the pacers isn't able to resign Turner in the next year this will be a good pick-up. Wiseman has good rebounding skills. But I still feel the pacers really need to pick-up a natural 3. Nesmith is just too small and have a short wingspan compared to other natural 3. I still feel acquiring Jonathan Kuminga who can play the 3 naturally and at times at the 4 is key acquisition the pacers really needs. Resigning Toppin personally is just mehhh..., Moving him to be a stretch 5 or slotting him on the 4 will force Walker to play 3 instead of his natural position of the 4. Im not saying that Walker can't play the 3 as of the moment but that will be a work in progress for him to play at the 3. Again a good pick-up for the pacers signing Wiseman regardless if he improves or just stay as is. I hope his turnover ratio drops.
I think Wiseman is an excellent pickup. If given opportunity he will surpass Jackson in the lineup. He is to skilled. Turner played 10 more mins a game than him and only averaged less than 2 rebs more a game than him 😂 We could use him for rebounding alone, not to mention his low post scoring ability. Hali will make good use of him. Pleasant surprise incoming for pacers fans.
Two very big IFS,if Jackson shows improvement and Wiseman shows potential,Turner will be gone, he is in last year of contract and will be looking for 30 million year, pacers can not do that
In this Pacers offense, he will shine just like everyone else, our offense,is that good. T.J. and Haliburton are that good to lift other players' abilities
I like the Wiseman signing. When we look at who he replaces in Jalen Smith, he is a better defender, more athletic, and better rebounder. Is he a better shooter? No, not even close. However, rebounding is something that could get Wiseman on the floor while Jalen Smith rode the bench for much of the playoffs.
You need to look at your audience…at least on occasion. As is your eyes dart everywhere but never at your camera/audience. Reading stats / notes on occasion is fine but not the entire time.
Big young strong center playing with a good passing team is perfect for Wiseman to develop. Kenyon Martin Jr is still available for a lob threat and defense on the wing and toughness
He's got some good highlights. I heard some Pistons fans say he's really good sometimes, other times he plays with low effort. I doubt Rick will put up with low effort play from a non-star.
I love that the front office is making a habit out of cherry picking high ceiling/high talent players who havent panned out yet, taking those who have clearly been in the wrong systems and will likely ascend their games here. Haliburton, ,Nembhart, Toppin, McConnell, amd now Wiseman, who ive wanted to see them go after for a couple of years. This could be yet another huge steal, i wouldnt be surprised if Woseman wins the 2nd center spot this year and then possibly challenges foe the startingnspot next year, when Turners current contract will have expired.
@user-fc2ry1ee2y sorry, Nesmith. They got em about the same time and i have always gotten them mixed up.....from boston. And he, technically, was just not used by Boston much, if I remeber correctly.
Jackson is the backup wiseman is the 3rd string but he can overtake Isaiah if he doesn’t perform but James is gonna have to develop he’s had enough games and minutes in the nba hasn’t developed much hopefully the pacers could do it
The Pacers have the best record in the NBA for turning around players' careers and creating All-Stars. Jermaine O'Neal, Victor Oladipo, Ron Artest, Brad Miller. It is a long list...
I believe James Wiseman can secure that back up spot. Bookmark me on that. He’s hungry and he’s work ethic is crazy. Thanks for the video! Breath of fresh air from the Pistons
Only in Indiana does picking up a 3rd center generate this many comments 😂. Guys in here are actually mad about the 11/12th guy on the roster. News flash not everyone on your team is going to be a major contributor and if he does work out then bonus
Really, throwing shade at pacers fans for that? Big market teams not only do the same much more frequently, they do so in regards to media produced potential trades that are insanely ridiculous, landing them a 200m all nba player to play 3rd string and take league minimum on a sign and trade deal, that only costs them a conditional 2nd rd pick in 2050. Edit: I'm sorry, I forgot to add the end, when they attempt to, before the trade, act like the other team is getting a really good deal.
@daledilbeck9621 right, but he is only 23, a former number overall with a lot of hype out of college and wasn't exactly in the best situations previously, after his injury. This isn't a late 2nd rounder or undrafted 4 year guy, this is still a very young kid, very cheap, and has the potential to turn things around. That's exciting in a small market, as we know, we don't get many shots at signing big name players in their prime, so we try to find hidden gems and this certainly has the potential to be that, even if henonky ends up being a solid 3rd string guy. We all wish we were the city players were willing to take a pay cut to play in just to be in that city, but we arent.
Note that not only is there only one open roster spot but there is also only one open two way spot. For OT, Q, Newton, and Freeman to all get contracts one of them must get a standard deal as only three can be two ways. Of course, Newton or Freeman could come to camp on an Exhibit 10, be cut and wind up on an Ants contract leaving a Pacer roster spot open for JJ or whoever.
He doesn’t give much effort most of the time. I do think he’s worth the risk though. He’s gotta know Rick Carlisle is not the kind of coach that’ll let him sleepwalk through the season.
All the good defensive veteran free agent wings signed elsewhere. That was their biggest offseason need. Buchanan said he sees Walker playing the 3. I am concerned about counting on him to fill that role.
Don't sleep on the fact that with Myles expiring at the end of the year, if Wiseman can show to be a solid backup, And we know ijax is a serviceable starter, we may let Myles walk
Wiseman can run but he is not as agile as people think. He has poor lateral quickness and very slow reaction time and mental processing. If he is actually playing, we arent better for it.
He’s a backup small forward making $22 million, why would you give up either lottery picks who are 21 and 22 years old, are super cheap, and will be a ton better than Cam in two years. Not paying a backup that much money in today’s nba’s payroll structure…
Cam Johnson is not the answer. There are articles out that say the only reason he hasn’t been traded is because the Nets are asking for at least one 1st rd pick. There were a handful of teams that were talking to the Nets about him. I think a lot of people are mistaking him for Cam Thomas bc Johnson is not that good of a player.
It will take 4 year's for Furphy to become George Niang, or a real poor version of a Danilo Gallinari most likely.. Let's not select guy's we can use. C, SF.
