Newport News Shipbuilding successfully launched Indiana (SSN 789) into the James River June 3-4. The submarine was moved out of a construction facility into a floating dry dock using a transfer car system.
I remember watching this video a homeless man in New York a year ago. Seeing this brought tears to my eyes as how much better my life is now and this video is still here. Never give up in life. No condition is permanent
And even as you watch this video, the rich get even richer, 🤔 I don't know who really needs to hear this, you need to stop saving money. Invest some of it, if you really want financial freedom. I'm happy your story changed for good
@@charlessmith3489 You're right friend. We're all not born with the Silver spoon, but we have to craft ours. My divorce almost ended my life. I had almost nothing to fall back to..I found out the hard way, savings are overrated. Thank God for a stroke of luck and cryptocurrencies.
I was stationed onboard the USS HUNLEY AS31 1968 to 1971, a tender for Nuclear Submarines, fast attacks and boomers. SUBRON18. They were incredibly high tech back then, I can’t even imagine how advanced they are now.
I got a tour of the EB shipyard in Groton , CT when working for NNS on the Virginia Class program. Was taken inside a covered dock where they had the USS Nautilus, the 1st nuclear powered US sub, in for repairs. From the 1st to the most current at that time.
[09/10/20] Look at the massive size of that Top Secret pump jet drive. I suppose they were pioneered with the Seawolf class? How thick is the steel on the outer hull? ⅜"? ½"? What about the pressure hull" 1"? Must be at least HY-100 steel.
hey question, i build these um, so you feel safe on these, like there is no fear in your heart, cause i mean i am a shipfitter and man some of the welders scare me to hell
Very awesome to watch. The world's largest shipbuilder doing it right. Greatvjob. Subsafe in action. I wonder if that was the AFDM-7 Resolute that they rolled it into?
X-ray welder at EB QP checking in. I welded those hulls also ( 2b - 3a- 3b) . Love seeing the final result. Makes all the burns and pain I receive in the process worth it. Nice job Newport news! Love this country and the product we deliver to the Navy 🇺🇸
i worked at EB and tested the ship control system on the first Virginia class sub. EB did a good job with that, replacing the diving and steering controls with "swim by wire". I also worked at EB several years before in the shock test group. Pretty impressive how they go to Aberdeen Maryland and detonate things
I spent fours years on a NN built submarine which has since been decommissioned. Been to places most human will never dream of going to. I miss my boat !!!
Worked at NNS for 38 years. Did these Sub rollouts and Dry Docking and undocking of all the CVN's. Glad to be retired but it was an honor to build these ships for our country and it's Navy. I've seen some incredible sights working on and around these ships.
Many years ago it was my honor, after security clearance, to be invited to the launching of a Santa Fee class Nuclear submarine in Groton Conn.. We were allowed to walk through the interior construction facility, were other subs were in various phases of construction. The technology on display we beyond mind-bending. I had never seen anything outside of NASA at this level of technology. Truly amazing. btw: The sub was launched in the dead of winter. It gracefully slide into the bay where several tugboats were awaiting.
Different thread U.S.S. Underwood: Dropped out of warp raised shields armed quantum torpedo and ready Phaser banks, Then realised we're in the wrong universe again.
The floating dry dock was brought in during my time there ‘86-89. I was able to see the last launch off a declevity. Lots of interesting work at NNS. Noticed the propulsion was covered which they did during my time but I wonder what else along the hull is covered up?
The three black tarps hanging off of each side are covering up the side sonar arrays. The blurred-out area at the front of the sub is concealing the Virginia Payload Tube, which replaced multiple individual cruise missile launch tubes with one big tube that can carry seven cruise missiles (or other ordnance) inside of it. The VPT was first installed on the Block 3 Virginia subs, of which this sub (SSN 789) is one. The newest Block 5 subs are going to have an additional 70 feet of length added to them so that four more VPTs can be installed near the center of the boat, which will allow them to carry an additional 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles. They are doing this because the first four Ohio-class subs, which were converted from nuclear missile-carrying subs (SSBNs) to cruise missile-carrying subs (SSGNs) and can each carry a whopping 154 Tomahawks, are all now 40+ years old and are very near retirement.
They can’t show it. As you can see they conceal the propeller design and the black fabrics on the lower sides also hide sensitive designs and equipment. That is why they wait until dark to remove the fabrics and prop cover and lower it. Final photos also show blurred area at the bow most likely detection equipment or 45 degree launch tubes for cruise missiles but given how forward the mast is it most likely isn’t launch tubes.
@@kaminoszero that's not the reason. Yes the screw design is kept a secret. They launch when its high tide. I spent three years on a Navy floating dry dock.
I'm sure most people don't realise the significance of what your saying and how significant that contribution was - but I promise you, enough of us do! Wish I could shake your hand.-J
When did they start naming fast attacks after states? Amazing to see something this big and heavy come out on rollers and back out into a dry dock. When I was in I had the privilege to walk in the dry dock in Pearl while a fast attack was up on blocks and just run my hand along the hull. Very cool.
Worked at Groton, one night we were working on the dry dock with a 688 on blocks. Said to my partner how cool it would be to walk beneath the Sub, walked under, stood there, looked up at the giant hull, wished we had a camera, but we knew better, that's a big no-no,but it was a once in a life time opportunity!
For some reason, they blurred the VLS-section. But everyone(even Wiki) knows that now this section contains two 6-cell VLS blocks similar to those on Ohio SSGN.))
Well that wouldn't be stressful at all. Incredible. As a former tug deckhand, I don't envy anyone involved in that move. Pretty expensive whoopsies possible.
At present I am 82 yrs , Retired Mechanical Engr , visited to See Vikrant.when I was the final year Engg Student , We feel Highly Proud to see The Tremendous Power Of our Country & Our mighty Defence . We Salute to the Great Defence Generals & The Engineers For The Unforgettable Contributions . We. Bow our Heads to Them Jai Bharat . Jai Hind .
Submariners are a huge part of our defence, I'm very fortunate to have these people protecting our freedoms that so many have fought for, just want to say thank you for your service and dedication to your country, I'm grateful to all of you. 🇺🇸🙏
These submariners are not for the defence of the USA but for the imposition of the American model away. Remember Vietnam , Irak and other countries. Very hypocrite.
It is reasonable to interpret the North's nuclear submarine as meaning an SSB equipped with nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles, and as North Korea's official announcement has always been, it is confusing its opponents with vague expressions and falsehoods. However, it seems true that efforts are being made to increase the weight and range of ballistic missiles mounted on SSBs and to increase the quietness of the platform, and even conventional submarines, North Korea's strength in ballistic missiles, including South Korea, is not satisfactory. It is also true that the ultimate counter for this is a nuclear submarine.
I lived in N.N. from 60 to 67, when there were still houses on the same street as the shipyard. We went swimming where they build carriers now. You could walk up to the fence & see the giant propellors for the Enterprise then the JFK. Amazing that they kept the prop hidden while launching the sub, maybe a high tech design for silence.
The Pro is top secret, i build these giant and i cant even see it, they have it covered during the whole build of the boat, cause we build them in sections then they go to GROTON Ct, after leavin little Rhode Island
I remember when I was a kid, I was in the NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps). Our group visited a submarine base in King’s Bay, near Valdosta, Georgia. We stepped aboard a Trident class missile attack submarine. It was called the Benjamin Franklin. The bridge was like a spaceship. It was also being resupplied by the submarine tender on the starboard side. Among those supplies were torpedoes. A seaman scared us by jumping onto one. Thank God it was unarmed. A seaman told me “Don’t ever get on any of these boats.” I asked him why. He told me, “Because you won’t see the sun and you won’t see any women.” That was back in the early 80’s. I couldn’t join the military because I had scoliosis and the government didn’t want to take any chances. If I didn’t have scoliosis, I would serve until I made captain. I tried to join the U.S. Air Force. Same result. To those who have served or are still serving, thank you for all your dedication and courage.
At about the 1:30 mark, there are, what look like black sheets on the starboard side about a third of the way up from the stern. Does anyone know why they're there? Concealing some sort of tech? Something not finished on the hull? Exposed equipment that still needed to be protected from the elements? They just seemed out of place on a submarine hull.
I Salute to the TEAM of INDIA and each and every department and specially for unseen HERO's of our country. Dear INDIANS My humble request to all of you, please be a part of INDIAN development in unity, peace, defense, economy and to make our NATION as a global leader for peace and development in this universe. Once again I Salute to each and every department of our NATION.
Notice the prop is covered. The shape of the thing is classified. Look at the Google Maps satellite photo of the sub pens at Point Loma. On each of the docked subs, the area of the prop is distorted in the photo. I'm guessing that the shape of the prop is an important part of why modern subs are so fast, and so quiet. Good job, guys!
At electric boat were I use to work when u walked in the building the prop was covered and u a gate around it. And needed Top secret to know anything about it
The shape, design and characteristics of nuclear powered submarine propellers are classified. The Navy doesn't want them seen whether above or below water.
I did not know that a massive submarine like that can navigate in a river . The nearest ocean in about 1000 miles away. Somewhere in the Florida panhandle
@@woodynorris8224 . My bad, I just looked up james river . It's in VA. I thought it was in southern Illinois. But still that's a huge sub to navigate in a river
The James River is 5 miles wide at the shipyard, and dredged regularly, subs cruise on top until they get in the ocean. They usually leave on cloudy days, so they can't be seen by satellite.
Awesome. The amazing power that sub carries is unimaginable. It can put dozens nukes thousands of miles away and the recipients would never know what hit them. Scary. But quite a deterrent.
Zaryab Khan your last name explains it all!! Lmao at you..you don't know the difference BETWEEN INDIANA USA and India GOD HELP us..not you..are you a MUSLIM ?? Just curious
I was an apprentice welder at Newport News Shipbuilding in the late 80s, early 90s. Proud as hell of every ship I worked on. The Lincoln, Washington, Stennis, can't even remember all the subs. I was working on the last overhaul/refueling of the Enterprise when I left in 92. Kills me to see her tied up at the pier awaiting a terrible fate. Made a lot more money away from the yard, but no where near the job sanctification.
oops they were not suppose to show that no one is suppose to see that those are the launch doors on the sub and they are classified last thing we want is those godless commies The Chinese copying it so they can take it out.
Nice video. How they go about moving such a large item, is as interesting as the vessel they are moving. One question, is the traditional style of launching a vessel, the champagne bottle being broken over the bow, is that not a thing anymore for submarines?
The Navy, last time I checked, is still very big on tradition and I have reason to believe 'the breaking of the champagne bottle' is still done though more or less in private - which is of course a pathetic sign of the times.
What you refer to is called Christening. This video is of the Launching which occurs immediately (generally) after the Christening. Next step is called Commissioning. Here is the FULL video of Indiana being Christened. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kWBs-Cg_MyE.html
It's a very sophisticated piece of a new technology the last of advance in sub evolution. Practically is invisible under the water it possessing tremendous power of weapons & speed & of course it's submerge depth is a top secret
Ya .. This SSN Sub when i play on Dangerous Waters Game on disc lazer it my favorite , it a small the Catégorie expédition i think , the sub défense support is five time more massif with weapon , i know he is a fast one and discret , nothing all i know.
