The Ministry of External Affairs has stepped up its responses to reports of hate crimes against the Indian diaspora abroad, from the riots in the United Kingdom to vandalism and attacks in Canada.
The government has also issued strong demarches against the USA and other countries for long visa delays for Indians.
In this episode of Worldview, Suhasini Haidar looks at the tricky crossroads between the diaspora and diplomacy. What is the impact of diaspora and consular issues on India’s bilateral ties?

Pakistan has taken its "hindu -hatred" agenda to foreign land. Respective Governments of the countries has tacit support on such activities. Indian Government, must provide reciprocal response.

It's Hindus of Indian origin who were attacked in UK, not Indian nationals. Govt of India must have a policy like Israel to protect Hindus anywhere in the world. Hinduism originated in India, so it's the moral responsibility of Indian government.

Good topic, thank you. However, I think we cannot with the same paintbrush across the globe. UK lived with Indian origin for centuries however the US/Canada has seen only an influx (mostly after Y2K). Most Indians keep their heads down, work hard, pay taxes and don't engage in any abrasive actions. This causes growth in one community while the natives might feel this an 'invasion of privacy. I'm not sure what is the answer.

The journalist audio is rather loud and hurts the ear. We Indians should learn not to be too obvious as It is going to take a long long long time for Westerners to accept foreigners. We are basically at the bottom rung of the ladder. So we need to be invisible.

It is because of Right groups rising across Europe and North America! People on right side usually don't welcome immigrants. NRI have Indian citizenship but they're not staying in India (for more than 80 days or something, in a calendar year) because they're working in some other country. PIO is for a person born in any country and whose parents are Indian citizens through the citizenship act. However, the newborn will have citizenship of the country they are born and will be a PIO. This is also someone who gives up Indian citizenship for another country's citizenship. NRI is more useful in the taxation context (if you want to go down the rabbit hole).

Many Hindus are becoming too aggressive seeking for identity and become a threat to the peace loving communities in small countries in Europe. Such a large migration of Hindus to the West and killings of the Muslims and Christians back home in India...and finance such atrocities from the West to carry on the violence against the minorities to build Hindu Rastra has not sent a good message to the world. If you cannot respect other religious minorities in your motherland, how can you expect to be respected in the West where you are a minority. the Prime Minister keeps quiet and looks the other way around while such atrocities are going on in his country. Any action of aggression is counter productive and harmful.

The issue is growing Indian diaspora in west which is mainly Hindus. What is happening is the right wing Hindu who make up very small number but are able to steal the narrative of indian diaspora. This right wing are very active in temples and social organizations. Sorry to say but where ever Hindus are in majority even if its a street in west they will change the nature and culture of it. They show all kinds of racists, castist and communal colors. This is the reason indians especially hindus are the most hated community in the west. I dont see a good ending if fresh of the boat Indians don't stop this sectarian attitudes
