As a Greek Orthodox Christian from America this chant was never sung in our church until my Father in Law who was a chanter in the Greek Church in Greece brought the music and words to our parish some 29 years ago. A very moving poem. There is also a video of monks from the Russian Orthodox Vlaam Monastery in north western Russia ( also referred to the Mount Athos of the north ) who chant this poem as well, it is just as uplifting and emotional as it is in any of the Orthodox languages.

I believe and think based on my own experience, such Greek orthodox chants open the chakras one after the other. Latin services chants do not act in the same way.

I’m surprised these Indians are new to this. If they travelled to their own Indian state of Kerala, this type of music and eastern catholic/orthodox culture has been in India since 52 AD. There are millions more Indian Christians than Irish catholics

The hymn is called "Agni Parthene" (Pure Virgin) and it's a tribute to Holly Mary. It was written by St. Nectarios, Bishop of Aegina island. Maybe the best hymn for Virgin Mary ever written.

The one biggest downside of this video is to listen to such a song on LAPTOP SPEAKERS. The lower realms of tones you don't get vibrating through your body. It totally is better with good speakers or good earphones. But! beautiful reaction. Lovely that you listened to it

It is not a liturgical hymn. It was written by Saint Nektarios of Aegina (Greece). Around 1894 and 1908 A.D. Of course in Greek. The music was later added by the monks of Simonos Petras Monastery which is in the Holy Athos Mountain (Mount Athos).
