I live in a small town in Florida. Lots of ice is a must for a couple of reasons: 1) Summer is 11 months out of the year. 2) Fishing, boating, tailgating, etc. requires lots of ice for coolers. 3) Hurricanes. When the power goes out, all that ice keeps the freezer colder longer. A day before the storm, I will often empty a lot of items in the refrigerator/freezer cooking it all up. Then empty all my ice into bowls so the ice maker has room to make more ice. Power goes out, move the bowls of ice to the refrigerator. More cars than people does happen but generally because of work vehicles, car collectors/restorers, or the family will keep a "beater" which is a car that is old, but well maintained for emergencies or out of town guests to borrow. Multiple TV's happen usually for a few reasons: 1) new tv bought/ kept the old one. 2) keeps the peace because no one can agree on what to watch so go to another room to watch what you want. 3) Hobbies. I love to cook, so I have a tv in the kitchen because I spend so much time in there. TV in the bedroom. (old but kept it). TV in the garage because I tend to yell a lot when watching football and I am not allowed in the house when I watch the game. As for the rest of the video, most is really common as far as my experiences living throughout the South and East coast as far north as New York.

Mail boxes at the curb are usually only out in the country, not in town. My mailbox is affixed to my house, and I open the front door and there is my mail box right there; I don't even have to step my foot on the cement slab at my front door, or on the porch for those who have porches. There is a curved piece of metal that you can attach your outgoing mail to and the postman picks it up when he delivers mail to your mailbox. No going outside.

Tons of ice is great if you entertain a lot. My parents only have the ice maker in the freezer drawer, and we always forget until the last minute to send someone out to get ice for holidays like Thanksgiving when we have around 20 people there all day. My parents have 9 TVs in their house [garage and laundry room (both old small ones from bedrooms that we moved instead of throwing them away when they were replaced with flat screens), master bathroom (tiny one), den, 3 bedrooms, and 2 offices].

I have one very old utility vehicle, and a newer basic vehicle. But that way if one vehicle is in the shop, it doesn't impair my ability to funtion normally.

I mean yes but no, I’m poor and I have many of those things, I bought them over a period of time. Right now the economy is crap so it’s going to be difficult for people who just started living alone or for people who want to upgrade but it’s doable, especially if you compare it to poor and lower income people from other countries.

The garbage disposal doesn't flush it, it grinds food into a little tiny pieces so it can go out the drain pipe. And while it's true some people have more cars than people, that is more of an exception than the rule Most homes have 1 car per driver, not person, (i.e. kids don't drive). Most of the people that have more than one, the second one is often a work vehicle.

It should be noted that this particular home has some of the latest and most high end appliances (especially that refrigerator and the garbage disposal), but this video generally documents common home features here in the US very well. And yes, outside of major cities the public transport in the US is not very good, and that's partially just from how things developed here in the US, especially with the advent of the Model T. Cars can make the distance negligible, but a 10-to-15 minute drive into town to could translate to anywhere between 6-7 miles / ~10 kilometers. Which is a considerably longer distance on foot! There are also some places where your nearest neighbor could be ten miles away, depending on how rural you're living. As a result, it's much more practical for all household members of driving age and ability to have their own vehicles.

Her mom is affluent. However, while I'd say 6 tvs and 2 icemakers and 4 cars is not typical for most 2 people households, you will normally find more tvs, cars, and ice in an American household than a French one, so it's not exactly a misrepresentation either. Also, I'd say having a garbage disposal is maybe 50% of households. Not uncommon, but not "absolutely everyone" either. I've never had one.

But most houses have built-in air-conditioning units, better known as HVAC, which is also a part of the heating system. But some older houses and apartments you will find window air, conditioners or built in the wall air conditioners. It does get humid and hot there in the summer. sometimes it’s 100% humidity and it’s 100 degrees or (37.8C) which is hot but here in the upper Midwest it has had a feel like for a whole week of 110°F and it’s very not fun

Too many TV units that we no longer use as much, since, most of the time we use computer monitors and tablets to watch videos and other multimedia files. From more than 6 cars to less than three to cut back on expenses and labor. Heating and A/C is everywhere, but usage drops due to reducing cost and not being in the home for long periods. Sending mail is often based on the mailman you have. Kitchen sink design gets too diverse with waste disposal, filtered water, multi-sink options, and water stream settings that can have more than one water output. Fences are much rarer compared to more isolated or gated communities. Even with all the ice makers around, I still believe no one makes enough ice when special occasions call for a lot of ice.

Also we will have a 'family car' for the whole family (usually 4-6 people) to go on road trips. 1 Car that would seat 4 comfortably, usually used to drive to work maybe errands, a TRUCK to pick up large items, including lumber etc... The disposal doesn't 'flush' so much as it grinds the food waste... "Everyone' is an exaggeration, but it's fairly accurate I'd guess for at least 50-60% of households. I'm in the center section of Ohio - Near Columbus. (Central Ohio) I have a TV in the Livingroom, bedroom, & kitchen. I'd LIKE one in the bathroom IF I had a tub instead of a shower... but just the shower, so no point.

We have only one TV and that’s because we don’t need our kids to be watching in their own rooms and being isolated from the rest of the family. Plus they may watch in the middle of the night when they should be sleeping-already an issue with phones and teenagers. As for air conditioning, it depends on where you live. Definitely in the Midwest and south it is needed in the summer. But if you live up in the north or in the mountains where the temps are cooler in the summer, no need. Recliners are pretty common and of course, I haven’t been in a house without screens. I am always shocked when I travel in Europe in the summer and see places without screens. It is really silly that Europeans don’t have screens to keep bugs out. Also, if your house is on a septic system and not town or city sewer, you shouldn’t have a garbage disposal. It isn’t good for the pipes and septic tank. People never put bones and fruit pits, etc. in a garbage disposal-it can damage it. I personally don’t like them and we have a large yard where we can compost our fruit and vegetable waste and put it on our gardens after it is composted. All that food waste going to landfills produces a lot of methane which is bad for the air.

3:03 It is not that public transport is bad in most US cities of any size.......it is that the judicial system does little to stop the violence and crime of some of the people in the US who frequent public transportation. Thus, if people can afford it, at all.....if they can find any way of affording it, they will jump at the chance to NOT make themselves a potential victim of violence and theft. People talk about the number of incarcerations in the US, but if you look at the violent crime that takes place as a part of daily life in many of these large, densely populated cities....they need to double the number of prisons. People should not have to fear daily about violent crime, and the govt should not allow it. If people cannot live in a civil society without committing violence or theft against innocent citizens, then they SHOULD be separated from that civil society. There are exactly zero valid excuses although....people who lived in secured, walled communities with security guards will argue that it is societies fault that these poor robbers, muggers, r@pists and violent attackers are forced by society into their actions and they vote for politicians and parties who support slapping the hands of the violent people who prey on innocent citizens. We could have a great public transport system that is used by most people in large cities.....but the politicians aren't doing their jobs to make the streets safe for innocent citizens.

That many TVs is not really that common. Almost all houses have them in the living room. And many houses also have TVs in the bedrooms, especially in kids' rooms. But TVs in the kitchen, the bathroom, the dining room, and other places are not really that common. Only people with too much money and who watch way to much TV might have TVs in rooms other than the living rooms and bedrooms. The 6 TVs in the house in this video is not typical. And multiple cars for one person is not overly common either - again, only with more moneyed people would that maybe be the case, or maybe with someone who is a car enthusiast. It is true that each person who is of legal driving age in a house often has their own car. So, if there's a family of four with two driving age teenagers, then the house would have 4 cars - 1 for each person. Occasionally a family might have an extra vehicle that is specialized in some way - like the father might have a pick-up truck in addition to his regular car. Or, the family in general might have a recreational or sporting vehicle of some kind for everyone's use.
