I saw Charlie Daniels in 2017 right before he died, we went just to see a legend, figured he was elderly so we weren't expecting much....let me tell you something, he came out twirling that bow jumping around all lit up it was amazing ❤
@ronileigh9336 it was very cool, I'm so grateful I got to see that 💜 it was at the Seminole Casino in Fort Myers, FL. He was so impressive it was such a good show
I've seen Charlie Daniels starting in 1977 until late in the 80s at least once a year. Open with The Tennessee Waltz and closes with The Orange Special or he did every time I saw him
I love how he literally asked "why did the devil go down there?" He was looking for a soul to steal of course😋 this is one of those songs where i think EVERYONE in the US knows it somehow lol
I'm always amazed at how little people even in their 30s don't know about our music from the 60s and 70s. Someone sure dropped the ball on their education
Charlie was a sweet, talented soul. This song is from 1979. I saw the band many times and have many fond memories. Thanks for playing this! RIP Charlie.
This is an American anthem!!!!! I have not met one person who does not love this song. Back in the 90's I had a friend who got married and this was their wedding song!
I don't listen to a lot of country, but I love this song, and always have. It's fun and energetic. It tells a great story. And, Charlie Daniels could sure light up that fiddle!
The sound he gets out of that fiddle is absolutely nuts. It's so good when he hits those evil sounding notes. It's incredible. I don't even like bluegrass but this is one of the best songs ever put to wax. 1000%
Im from Georgia. Georgia is the heart of "The South". "The South" (Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and the western half of Virginia) is known for rough neck people who like to try stupid things to see what happens. This song showcases the "hey bubba, hold my beer for a minute" attitude here. Betting with the devil for gold fiddle(violin) vs your soul is definitely a Southern thing to do! Not the smartest idea. LOL
Your video made me very happy. The greatest cheer came from Johnny telling the devil he has lost. The cheer went out and it brought a smile to my face.
Yes! I saw another reaction to this, and he summed it up very well, pointing out that so many songs today are filled with so much swearing that it just becomes background noise. While in a song like this something as mild as “son of a bitch” has so much more impact.
The Charlie Daniels Band specialized in giving their audience a window into a specific part of the South. "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" is as expressive but in a totally different direction. That one would be a nice follow up to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".
yep, this song was so good the FM rock stations played it lots, too..probably one of the biggest-selling records of the year. I bet that ol Devil's still sore from that whippin' Johnny gave him! I imagine he's playing for his grandchildren on that same hickory stump, with the kids asking him to tell the story of how he got the golden fiddle-again. NO way can anyone anywhere in the world resist such a great song..I knew you'd love it big time!
You guys.... you "Loud Guys"... put a huge smile on my face! =8-D Great reaction! It's amazing how you hear a song a million times but when your with someone who's never heard and you see the amazement and wonder in their eyes and facial expressions... priceless! =;-) Loud Guys, Thank You!
in the hands of a southerner or a Irish person a violin is a fiddle. i like the saying the diffrence between a violin and a fiddle is a violin has strings a fiddle has strangs.
1979 Saratoga, New York, far from the south and the land of country music. Remember, the fiddle was a military enlisted man's instrument, a poor man's instrument. In 1979 he had to reedit the line to make it "Son of a gun" to get the song played.
Note that learning the "fiddle" or violin, was not uncommon in the south during the 18-1900s . Often this was used in bluegrass music. Worth looking into.
I have no idea where that stereotype comes from. I only own one straw, one leather, and one crush cap. And I bought custom fitted hats for my relatives for my for Christmas. They had hats but I felt two of them needed nicer hats for fun. 😅 Not joking though, most people around here just wear baseball hats, except for weirdos like me who wear "cabbie caps" or whatever else I feel like.
I saw Charlie Daniels in concert about 2003 in Tupelo, MS ya'll need to do a reaction on Simple Man & The Legend of the Woiley Swamp I really enjoyed your reaction.
The dare isn’t that Johnny will instantly die if he loses the bet, but at the time of Johnny’s impending death (as us all) his soul has already been “promised” to the devil. Great reaction 😂 It’s a really fun song of defying the perils of temptation. 😜
One of the best violinists in the world is in your own backyard, his name is Lakshminarayana Shankar (He's known in the biz as L) he played with the late great Frank Zappa and L's album Touch Me There was produced and released by Frank on his Zappa Records label, Van Morrison Did lead Vocals on the track Dead Girls Of London which L. co-wrote with Zappa.
Man I love this song… I listen to everything from oldies gold, to heavy metal, to skip knot and kottonmouth kings but country is my roots and will always be number one in my heart.
Hey She's one Smart Cookie! When she comments on the first cerse and compares the story to our lives of choosing the evils of this world (illuminatti Money and power she said) against your best something. LOL.
A fiddle starts outas a violin , but if a city boy picks it up a violin will sing. But when a country boy picks out up he makes it talk and then you have a fiddle
Y'know, I fully believe you folks are genuine and open people. But your enthusiasm is so deep and your smiles are so wide, and the feeling is so infectious, it still makes you hard to believe! LOL Keep it up guys, you're fun to follow.
Charlie Daniel's has a lot of great songs that tell stories that makes you feel good at the end and he's one of the best if not the best fiddle players his music is considered country but a lot of rock n roll people love it as well👍
It’s crazy, I used to Joke that the only band I have seen love was the Charlie Daniels band like 15 or so years ago but now I’m proud I got to see them. Only band I’ve watched live since was Twenty One Pilots like last year
This came out in 1979....& to me is the First Real Rap Song! Its considered Country / Rock though....I believe it was the first song to cross over from Country to Rock! It was a huge hit! Radio stations of all music genres played this song a lot! Lol.
They were cheering for a curtain call usually the band will come back and play 1 more Song usually the most popular.. After resting 5-10 minutes and doing other things the band will come back and play 1 more at least... If it's a good crowd
imo the Devil actually won that dual. As a kid I was rooting for Johnny, but as an adult I just like the wicked funk too much! The Devil whispered to me one night, "You are not strong enough to withstand the storm". I whispered back, "At least I didn't lose my golden fiddle to a hillbilly in Georgia".
