I am a Thai, living in Bangkok, and I have this habit of leaving youtube documentary on and go to sleep. But this particular documentary kept my eyes wide open and stuck to it from the beginning to the end. It is now 5.12 am, and I am still thinking whatever is happening to these brothers and sisters of ours. So happy to have learned from comments below that the rail has been revamped and now in service. Hard working people with dreams deserve opportunity. If the board gauge is giving them opportunity i m happy for them.

This is Tarun Bhartiya, director of this doc. I had no idea that the film has been uploaded on RU-vid. Thanks dear uploader for doing this, atleast more people got to see it. After ten years revisiting this film, i was overwhelmed, all the shooting memories came back, all the troubles and all the pleasures. I want to thank all the people who commented here and all those who were moved by the stories of resilience and resistance. For me especially making this film was special because this is the only film I have made in mothertongue Maithili and set in Mithila PS: The song that many have liked, is just a few fragments that I wrote for the background music for cinematic effect. It does not exist on internet because it is not a complete song. Thanks for watching

Being a Muslim she cares to take a leap of "faith" and offers a goat to Hindu goddess and says" your God and my god are not different". This belief in union of humanity and God invokes philosophical resonance of Kabir that people have so easily forgotten now.

@@Shiburishu , You are right. I forgot this point. In general Indian people do not like to work. Indian people wants easy life. Indian people feel comfortable to beg for money than to work. The same Indian people work hard when they go to foreign countries. They make money and the live with dignity and honor. But if they get any chance for not to work they stop working. They say they have headaches, they have back pain, they have heart disease and so many other problem. So you are also right. I spent thousands of dollars to send some of my distant family members to Middle East. They went there and then they say these are very bad works. They cannot do these works. I had to send money to them from USA. Then I stopped sending money. They came back to India. Then they have no money. They borrowed money or sold land to go to Middle East again and they went again to Middle East. Now they are working there. Now they don't come back to India. I sponsored my family members to come to USA. They came and began to live on me. I started pressing them to go to work. They said they have this disease, that disease and so on. Then I kicked them out of my home. They are my brothers. They turned into my enemies. When they got out of my home they began to look for job and they began to work. Now they don't keep any relation with me but they work. I am happy. Let them live honorably. It is not necessary for them to keep connection with me. I don't want them to bother me all the time. Let them live away from me. If they can come back close to me they will stop working. That I know surely. That's why I don't want them to call me even. This is the nature of Indian people in general. @@gauravsharma1254, Brother, India is still a third world country. Mr. Sharma, you are living in a world of fantasy. We are wandering where do you live ? Do you live in India ? If you live in India then why are you so unaware of the socioeconomic condition of the country ? If you don't live in India then where do you live that you cannot keep track of what's going on in your own country. We are really shocked at your remark. Earlier this year, a 13-year-old girl from Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh hanged herself after starving for more than two days - her father had passed away and her mother had found no work as a laborer. In the same week, a tribal youth in Kerala was beaten to death for stealing a Kilo of rice from a grocery store. He had earlier restored to begging and then to stealing ; when caught he was severely beaten and later succumbed to his injuries. I just told you two incidences. If I start telling all these pathetic stories of hungry people of India the night will pass away but the story of poverty and pain in India will not be ended. Let me give you some information. More than 14.5 % Indian people are under nourished, 21% children are suffering from acute malnutrition, 38.5% of Indian children are not getting enough food to grow, 250 millions of Indian people are not getting food to neutralize their hunger everyday. In other words, India is not in a state of famine, it is quite clearly in a state of chronic hunger. Mr. Sharma, don't ignore our poverty, hunger, food shortage, unemployment, disease, lack of treatment, malnutrition, women mortality, children mortality, abuse of women, social injustice for women, fanaticism, killing of innocent human beings in the name of protection of cows, riot, chaos, conflict, destruction of religious places by fanatics, division among Indians in the name of religion, and so many other natural and man made calamities. We believe you are a young man. Do something for yourself, your family and your country. Don't boost with falsehood, fantasy and fabricated superiority. India is still trying to develop. It is not a developed country. You must keep this in mind all the time.

I'm live in kolkata but my native place is madhubani and madhubani isn't far away from nepal's border. I have been there for a long period and went nepal lots of time . Specially janakpur because janakpur is a famous place for hindus because of goddess sita's native place. I love this documentary because they have used my mother tongue maithili as well...

It looks like the Nepalese Railways should start a "Go Fund Me". Other people get hundreds of thousands for no good reason. It can't hurt to try.

Most of the people shown here are Indians not Nepalese and they are speaking Hindi language not Nepali language. So, this railway is used mostly by Indians, who are living in border areas to come to Nepal for work in east of Nepal(Terai region). Every part of Nepal is not like it is shown in documentary. Nepal is beautiful country, with beautiful and hard working honest people. This is Terai region where main income source is agriculture. We are proud of our terai region and people\farmers who are working hard from whom we get our daily breads, foods all over the country. Well, Im glad that now there is new train so, people dont have to suffer this way. Indians and Nepalese both can enjoy safe means of transfortation now. Jai Nepal🇳🇵
