Love your channel like you I have been collected Laserdiscs from day one, blu rays, dvds, vhs & I also collect 35mm.. refreshing to hear some one who knows what he is talking about. I screen 35mm films and collect film scans.. So i see massive differences.
5:07 I experienced Sensurround three times as a boy; Earthquake, Midway, and Beyond the Door (1975) which called it “Posess-O-Sound” but it was basically the same process. I got the Ormond Family Box set in the sale. Total blind buy. I've watched 10 of the 13 films now and unless we get Mexico Macabre 2 this year, this will probably be my favourite box set buy of 2024. The 3 Mexico titles in March were great too.
Had a lovely 42 film package arrived from them a couple of weeks ago. They do incredible work. I'd not bought anything the last couple of sales so I went all in with this, plus plenty of time to save for Vinegar Syndrome in a couple of weeks. I was sure I added Day of The Dolphin to my order but turns out I didn't. I'll grab it in the next one! I'll definitely get Night Has A Thousand Eyes too, sounds great!
I wasn't able to go overboard this time around because money is tight at the moment, but, I still have 20 titles to watch from the last sale! Universal Noir 2 has been a tricky one for me to approach, I watched Lady on a Train and really didn't like it that much. But, like the Columbia sets, there are probably a few hidden gems on it.
The noir sets have all been stellar as overall packages even if some of the films may be lesser. I like to look at them as a sort of programmed package or mini-noir festival where you get to try 5 or 6 titles at once.
Thanks for the update. Also picked up Night Has a Thousand Eyes and the Universal Noir #2 set. I know it's not that important at all, but the neat freak in me was ever so slightly put off by the small size difference between this set and #1. Seems to be much closer in size to the Marlene Dietrich/von Sternberg at Paramount set. Bit strange as that one went out of print ages ago.
Yay! Indicator's sale is always one of my most anticipated of the year. I got quite a few things this go around including old Hammer releases i still hadnt seen. The Hammer circle is now complete ;) for now. Also grabbed the John Ford Set, Cold Eyes of Fear, ive been dabbling into Castellari's work. Also grabbed The Kiss Before the Mirror, Midway, and Escape in the Fog bc its Budd Boetticher haha. Nice pick ups my man.
I'm in the UK and was on a Jack Nicholson kick - picked up The Last Detail, The Passenger and Wolf in the three for £15 (well, £18.29 with delivery). Cannot go wrong, such a good label.
I got 31 titles from that sale to hit the $250 threshold for free international shipping. Their standard edition Blu-rays were only $5.47 each (if you bought a minimum of three.) I got a few Limited Editions and 4Ks but if you were to buy ONLY standard edition Blu-rays, for that price you could get nearly 47 discs with free shipping!
I had to pick up Freud, directed by Houston. Unforgettable performance by Montgomery Clift. People often walk past this film without any consideration for how well acted and directed this film is. Jerry Goldsmith's score is just as Schizophrenic as his score to John Frankenheimer's Seconds, plus excerpts got re-used from the Freud score and put into Goldsmith's Alien. Almost Freudian in itself. Roll on June, because Obsession is coming out on Indicator. It's a classic film indeed.
I had the Night Has a Thousand Eyes LE in my cart but by the time I ordered it had sold out. Bummer. It's okay though. I'll get the standard edition at a future sale for less money. Although it was not on sale, I grabbed the 4k of Patrick from Kangarou Hitchcock himself, Richard Franklin. This was my first 4k from Indicator and I was mostly pleased with the package overall. Great supplements, very film-like presentation. My only gripe was the skin tones were a little hot at times but I've never seen a 35 mm print so that may be baked in for all I know.
Glad to hear you've picked up a new Noir set because your past vids about those films have been some of my favorites. They're so good, they've caused me to go out and watch films like Murder by Contract and the like. And so, I have to ask, can we expect an in-depth review of this newest one? Keep up the good work:)
Do you need a region B blu-ray player to watch these movies? If you do, what kind of region B blu-ray do you have? I saw a Sony “multi region” blu-ray player for sale at Bombay Electronics for $300 but the regular Sony region A blu-ray player was only $120. I didn’t want to pay an additional $180 to make a $120 blu-ray player region free
