Indigo Heir 

You know, this reminds me of a post on tumblr suggesting that the reason Equius was so fatally obsessive over the hemospectrum was because he had basically nothing else to pride himself on. Even his insane STRENGTH more kept him from using a bow than anything. In other words, the Heir of Void has nothing.

the heirs are the saddest characters imo equius zahhak, the heir of void, has nothing. he rigidly sticks to a flawed system because that's the only thing he can have pride about. mituna captor, the heir of doom, inherets doom. he is doomed. he sacrificed his mental well-being for the sake of his friends. john egbert, the heir of breath. he had to go through the death of all of his friends, knowing that he could've stopped it. he eventually revives them through retconning, but they are not the same people that he knew. due to living a different life for three years, they became radically different people. despite this, he remains upbeat through the entire retcon, due to the fact that he's reviving his friends, but deep down, he's still sad about thier deaths

"Once Homestuck hit its "start introducing way too many characters" stride (Hivebent is exactly when that occured), there were a lot of issues I started thinking about when it came to rolling out tons of diverse, often ridiculous new characters. Primarily, I saw them as interesting challenges in writing and characterization. By the very nature of trolls, a lot of these guys were always going to be pretty bad, obnoxious, gross, or creepy, particularly at first glance. So one major challenge I found interesting was something like, "How do you introduce someone who appears to be almost instantly revolting or obvjectionable, and then proceed to make the reader love this person against all odds?" Equius is probably the strongest example up to this point of me embracing this idea as a challenge. The initial impression he gives are pretty horrible. He's constantly angry, racist, humorless, has weird horse porn everywhere, and...oh no, des he BEAT HIS LUSUS TOO?? Just awful. But the unfolding of his character thereafter reveals certain mitigating truths. He doesn't beat his lusus, he's just so strong he leaves bruises despite his best efforts at tenderness. It's like a disability he struggles with. If you want to go full sadstuck, picture him unable to hug his dear moirail upon meeting her, for fear of crushing her fragile bones. There amany small ways his portrait is guided so that the guy who really has no right to be seen as endearing ends up being strangely so, often in ways that aren't even easy to explain. I frimly believe that if you don't love Equius after you've read most of Homestuck, then there's something wrong with you." -Hussie's commentary on Equius

It's really hard to enjoy music like this when you're afraid horse noises will come up at any moment.

I like how everyone was having such a crisis with what color indigo counts as... a little info to enrich everyones' days. Indigo is a special color. It is the color between blue and violet... and therein lies the issue. You see, it is a very difficult color to pin down. As Wikipedia says: The human eye does not readily differentiate hues in the wavelengths between blue and violet. This means that some people interpret indigo as more towards purple, and others more towards blue. In optimistic terms it belongs to both colors... but let's look at Equius a moment, this is not a positive character. Indeed, Eq's inheritance of nothing continues to persist even into his blood color; indigo belongs to neither blue nor violet.

people make haha funny jokes about how equius died and it's played for laughs as homestuck tends to do because it's just such an absurd situation in context, but when you actually think about it it's just tragic and depressing like, it's easy for people to call equius weird and creepy and gross for all his fetishes _(and he definitely is when it comes to things like how he treats aradia)_ but how sad, how genuinely _empty_ does a _13-year old_ have to feel to not only enjoy being choked to death, but literally having enough self-awareness that he went out of his way to make sure the one person he has a genuinely healthy and caring relationship with would be safe because he probably knew his kink would get him killed it's so fucked up on so many levels and i don't know if it's sadder that equius is so lacking in worth for himself that he feels that way to begin with, or just how clearly his final actions show the divide between the broken and empty person who felt so worthless they turned it into a fetish strong enough to make them get off on their own death and a genuinely caring friend who wanted to save nepeta from the consequences of that he's such a sad and complex character and i feel like he honestly kind of helped me come to terms with some really upsetting and messed-up parts of my own character too, things i genuinely don't think there'd be many other fictional characters who cover

Equius didn't deserve to die

Did anyone else pick up the fact that he could have easily stopped gamzee, but didn't because of his rigid adherence to a flawed system, and his own pleasure at being choked to death by a high blood. In other words, he died of erotic asphyxiation.

Void. Darkness, The Furthest Ring, Secrets, hiding, deception, barriers... How fitting that the Heir Of Void is one of the most difficult to understand.

So after the revelation of the beeps actually being SOS in morse code they have shifted from interesting sound addition to the song to that and an instrument whose purpose is to fill you with a soul shattering sadness.

I love how the character that everyone thought was the least important ended up being part of the single most important character

He was also surrounded in an aura of void making him often times 'unapproachable' thanks to his strange quirks such as his love of hoofbeasts and... his strange order fetish. This made everyone be a bit distant from him except for aradia (who was a robot/ghost) and nepeta (who is his moriale). He is one of the surviving Sprites as well, while dirk is running off and stuff... he is once more alone. Surrounded by nothing.

I find it fascinating how the title of "Heir of Void" really shaped Equius character. He had nothing , broke everything he held in his hands, lived in loneliness and misunderstanding and ultimately died for nothing , only through the effect of inaction... But at the same time, his essence endured, through the cracks of the story. He reached the very end and became one of the beings that solidified Homestuck's narrative as a part of Lord English. Equius was shrouded with nothingness, and with nothingness protected. Cast aside and forgotten, only to shape the very world that rejected him. After all , void is everywhere , and it gently holds the stars in place.

Okay remember that dumb song a few years ago called "what does the fox say?", if you don't check it up. So you know one of the lines half way through the song say " If you meet a friendly horse will you communicate by Morse?" I find this so sad and ironic to this right now.

So Equius' planet is the Land of Caves and Silence. Where does Nepeta live? A Cave. How did he die? Silent.

It's funny how some areas in the first half sound like Hotel California, a song about someone who goes to a hotel and finds out there's no escape. Later on, SOS is heard in Morse Code.

People talk a lot about the fact that 'void' generally means nothing so that Equius would therefore end up inheriting nothing. At the same time when you think about it, with all these constant space shots in Homestuck of the planets and of Bilius Slick, they are surrounded by darkness. Many have referred to this as a 'void', . Now I'm not saying this is in any way, shape or form canon, but at the same time it seems to me that Equius is inheriting the darkness around the planets and stars, and wouldn't that be the same as inheriting the universe?

For those who are saying Nepeta wasn't important 1). She is the only friend of equius, thus if she never existed, equius would be t like Eridan #2(sorry its true doe other than the fact I'm a Sagittarius) 2). Nepeta pretty much ships obviously... Which brings up the Karezi ship. 3). She roleplays, which Terezi and Vriska do also, but, she is the one with it all 4).Nepeta never born = Muelin =His beloved/ the Disciple was never born also. 5). She is the one who cheered up tavros when gamzee was unavailable( I think ) (SPOILERS ALERT) 6). After she died, Kanaya remembered her as she saw her olive blood. Thus making Kanaya sad. 7). She is also the one who hung out with Terezi more often than Vriska. That's all the reasons I know. If you don't like her I'm ok with that (sorta) but those are the reasons she's important too. :33

I really really really want to see ARquiussprite and Davesprite hanging out. It'd be, like, the most ironic thing ever. Sincerity is the deepest form of irony, and no one is more sincere about being a fucking weirdo than ARquius. I'm sort of happy for the guy in a way. He seems so happy.

Fun fact: This was originally made for Dirk. It was originally called "Dirks Dersite Durge" Hence all of the Synth. But was at some point decided to be given to Equius.

Yeah, so I am in a routine 10km run with headphones full of Homestuck and, naturally, this song comes up while I'm heading for a public park. Cool song. It gets to the special little message near the end. My brain makes it click and what do I do but go wide eyed and yell out an "...OH FUCK!" right where parents with their children can hear and probably get glared at a bit. ...keep moving. Don't choke. Oh Equius...

When I hear the repeated beating it sounds like heart beat in a way strong at first but then slowly fades as it weakens. Not only that the song overall begins an is strong, however I can't help but get this vibe. It seems lonely, and sad. Silent.

This is probably the most fitting song for Equius yet. I mean, it has everything. Classy instruments, drama, machinery crap. Awesome.

It's odd. I've always seen Equius as by far the least interesting troll. The only thing charming about him (at least that I've seen) is his moiraileggiance with Nepeta. But thins song just sounds so... Deep. I really want to see some kind of character development for him. Something that will make him just as deep and somber as this song.

equius is so under loved, he probably went through a lot living next to vriska, a light player. even worse, theif of light. i think he got his god teir name because of her. Heir of Void summed up means "ruler of nothing" which means he got evrything taken away from him, most likely by his counter god teir, theif of light. light and void are contridicting aspects, light is victory and void is nothingness (which can be taken as losing, for you have nothing after a battle).

I think I have an explanation for why this song is called "Indigo Heir" even though Equius' blood color is Royal Blue. If you've seen the Homestuck Tarot cards you'll notice that Equius' card is "The Emporer" and you'll notice that Gamzee has Indigo blood and is the descendant of the Grand Highblood who was the ruler of the Land Trolls. You'd think that Gamzee would be on the Emporer card since Feferi is on the Empress card and she's the descendant of the Condesce, right? Wrong. I think "Indigo Heir" is referring to Equius inheriting leadership of the land trolls instead of Gamzee despite him being the true heir to the throne. And the Morse Code for "SOS" in the song is probably saying "he'll rule, but with help". At least, that's my interpretation.

I think the way they worked the 'SOS' signal into the theme is VERY clever. :) Kind of fits his character...

This is incredible. It has a classy, elegant side, hinting on Equius' highblood status, but still retains mechanical, electronic elements, true to his character. Learning that the beeps in the last bit of the song are SOS in morse code, it really reveals an inner pain and neediness. This track definitely disturbs me more, now, despite it's beauty.

Indigo can descride Gamzees and Eridans blood colors on the purple side, and the blue side can describe Vriskas blood color, but it fits the in between blue and purple blood color of Equius most of all.

The way I see it, the Heir of Void didn't actually have much to do in the session. There's a lack of "void" after all; if I understand John's Heir abilities correctly, an Heir actually needs physical access to his element. In death, I think Equius might become more significant: the dream bubbles and the furthest ring are involved with void and all.

I know there's music like this without the instruments, like clicking gears and computer beeps in a rhythm, but I can't find it anywhere. I've searched for: steam-punk sound music, machine sound music, gear music, mechanical rhythms, etc. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. I will find you Epic Soundtrack Music! Wherever you hide...

The first times I heard this I was like "ehh , this sounds kind of hip hop-ish not my thing" but when I noticed it was Equiu's theme everything sounded so different and refined , almost like classical music , with him being a rich boy highblood and all..

Ever since I learned this was supposed to be a Dirk song I can't stop looking at it that way... The SOS signal in the end makes me think of Dirk signaling to potential human survivors with a machine he made. The whole thing sounds so lonely Also, this becoming an Equius song made me realize just how much in common these two characters have in terms of symbolism
