honestly, partially, i think that the john she got to hang out with not knowing her at all was... good? for her? it was a chance for a completely clean slate. no expectations, no recollection of all the terrible things she'd done, etc. but yeah we all know how it goes anyways. rip (Vriska)

Before I read Homestuck, I heard people talking about Vriska like she was the Worldwide Enemy of Da Goodness In Everything (Timmy Failure reference). So when I read Homestuck, I was really worried when I got to the part where Vriska was introduced. But I found it surprisingly easy to forgive her (her quirk played a 8ig role in it). I can't say I found her faultless, but nobody is faultless. As a Rogue of Light ("Vriska but nicer"), I often see myself when I look into those single- and seven-pupilled eyes.

@@mollyhoffman7313 honestly, I think people who think she's genuinely the most evil of the trolls or whatever just kinda went "oh she kills people? she's just flat out evil then" and didn't bother doing any more character analysis after that. like for instance, they forget that killing other people is kinda just an expectation in troll society and Vriska had to do likely more of it than any of the other troll session players because her lusus demanded it of her. I think the conversation she has with John just before she dies and also her time with Meenah in the dream bubble are the most genuine we see her, and it's pretty clear she's not evil in those moments! I think people just WANT to hate her tbh.

You got a point, but there's a slight difference between considering her return "a lack of character development" and considering it pointless. Her true growth had just started when Terezi killed her. Now that that never happened in the new timeline we will most likely see her development on the meteor just like we already did with everyone else's, so IMHO I wouldn't call it "her character development's death", because it's more like a new opportunity. We only have to wait and see. And I agree with you on the fact that Nepeta, Equius or Feferi deserved it more than her, since we know less about them than we do about Vriska. Here's what I think of the whole thing - and mind that it's just my opinion. What the meteor crew needed was someone who had true leadership, so that they could make an actual plan to defeat )(IC, LE or whatever; Nepeta, Equius or Feferi didn't. Vriska, on the other hand, did. Hell, she would never let anyone give up and hope for a quick death on her watch, so thanks to her they faced grimbark!Jade, Condy and possessed!Jane with an actual plan. She's what the plot needed.

Given that this theme is currently for Vriska; it could also be in reference to Equius, but *shrug*. It's just a good song, so I really don't care what it actually means =P

+Joseph Briggs While I dont mean to justify behavior like that, some people have weird ways of thinking. Some people have very strong standing beliefs that they made from what had happened to them in the past. And those experiences arent something you can knock down with one swoop. While life teaches some people to be loving, caring, and trusting, it teaches others to be selfish, self preserving, and cruel. And telling those people that theyre wrong or the "bad guys" just doesnt compute to them. At some point in their life they got so fucked that "good" and "bad" dont make any sense anymore. I think Vriska might be heavily based on these kinds of people. That one odd person in a crowd which tries to make a point even if it kills them, because to them everyone else just looks blind and helpless. Sometimes people like that try to cling on to people who are weaker and take advantage of them. But really, the person acting unpredictable and bitchy needs just as much help as the person whos the victim. Say what you will but I think Vriska in those early times of the comic was an emotional wreck. She was so caught up in what her past told her and what she had seen before that she couldnt do something as simple as keep a consistent matespriteship with Tavros. Everytime she tried she got confused and started going all trollian love/hate. Even later in the comics she says that she finds those relationships hard. Although she is twisty and manipulative, she is also easily manipulated. Easily broken and hurt. To me at least, I saw a lot of trolls cry while I was reading homestuck. And only when Vriska cried did it seem to mean something. All the others just seemed hopeless and scared for no good reason. Vriska straight up killed someone she considered a friend. And she didnt just move on. She legitimately suffered afterwards. She actually mourned about what she had done. So yeah the psychology of Vriska. There it is.

i like vriska too, but i dont know if she was ever meant to be perceived as a "misunderstood" character. she was awful to tavros and the others, and there's no excuse for that. but, while i hated her at first, what made me like her was that she was instead a "redeemed" character. she was terrible, but in the end, even if it was too late for her, she abandoned pride, and expressed her guilt. while some people still hate her(and i don't blame them), she left things to where she could truly be forgiven. she didnt try to excuse or justify her actions, and instead recognized just how awful she had been. what makes her awesome isn't her twisted and pitiful ubringing, but rather the way she eventually let go of it.

And? A song could easily be repurposed, but still hold relevance. Why would Vriska, one of the most important characters in Homestuck, be given such a surprising song for her character if it wasn't relevant? That would just be foolish, really.

Yeah well, that's Vriska's character for you. She was made to be a character of controversy. Right from the beginning, she was led down a wrong path by twisted, horrible, and manipulative mentors. She was forced to kill thousands of trolls to stay alive, lest she would be culled. Everybody clearly views her as a monster for doing such a thing, and she knows that she probably is. Right from the beginning of her life, her view of death has been twisted to the point where murder seems normal, as it should for any ordinary troll. Yet, she still feels that she deserves to be hated for her actions. Once she found Mindfangs journal, that was kinda a turning point in her life. Suddenly she found a cold hearted figure, manipulative and murderous, who in their own story was a hero! Vriska from that point on copied Mindfangs legacy, feigning regret to be pride, hitting on Tavros, and starting a heated kismesitude with Eridan. Of course, eventually she got bored of Eridan and broke it off, not gaining the satisfaction she had hoped to from it. And her reasoning for abusing Tavros the way she did was selfish, yes. She needed him to grow up, to get up and be strong! Someone worthy of materspritship so she could finally finish copying Mindfangs story, and feel as though she redeemed herself. Of course, this never happened. After Vriska gave him endless amounts of chances to prove himself, he couldn't even spare her life when she was bleeding out on her deathbed, suffering. And only afterwards, when she planned on charging into battle against the nefarious Bec Noir to save her friends, Tavros claims that he needs to kill her. This, obviously, pisses her off. So, she kills him. Her crimes against Terezi and Aradia, from her point of view, are making two people who can't mind their own business pay for trying to stop her. Bluh. Why did I write this you probably don't care. There's honestly so much more I could write about her, but I'm tired.
