I see Indonesian national football team in this video, but didn't realized that Maxwell was the "master of jinx". Even worse, we had to face Bahrain today in the World Cup qualifiers, the same opponent that inflicted our worst defeats in international football. Hope we got a good results against both Bahrain and China. 11:10 Well, Indonesia didn't hosted the U-20 World Cup due to the Israel's controversy, but they did eventually staged the U-17 World Cup later that year. Peru, the original host for the U-17 World Cup, was stripped for "unknown infrastructure problem". The U-17 team of Indonesia had almost went through the knockout stages after 2 hard-fought draws against Panama and Ecuador, but still couldn't beat Morocco. Germany were eventual winners of that tournament after beating France on penalties (it was a rematch of the Euro U-17 Final, where Germany also overcame France by the same fashion). Last, but not least, Indonesia also had 2 Asian Games where they were the hosts, the most recent one being in 2018 held in Jakarta-Palembang. The football team crashed out in the Round of 16 at the hands of United Arab Emirate on penalties, while Vietnam came 4th at the end of the tournament (that was during Park Hang-seo's era). It appears that Indonesia will bid for the upcoming 2036 Olympics, which was a good news considering our country have a new capital city situated in Borneo (Nusantara), and there will be a massive project for the new sports complex to be built in this new capital.

For me, the people or the players complaining about the naturalization of players hampering Indonesia's own youngsters, sorry but not sorry, THEY ARE SHIT. And as you said, it needs to happen to increase the quality of players. They have to improve rather than cry about their own potential popularity decreases. Because its like that here. Once you become a decent enough player at Persib or Persija, they just get on sponsorhips or advertisements and become celebrity, and thats it. It’s really hilarious, even for a Vietnamese, that we call out Indonesian for raiding heritage players from the Netherlands while naturalize a man without any real connection to Vietnam, ACL-2 (basically AFC Cup but with decent team now) level Brazilian. If you don’t have good heritage players, better invest in youth development. Here we do nothing. And now national team players are joining V-League 2 to bully youngsters and veteran. Nam Dinh - the national champions doesn’t even have a U21 player in their V-League squad (Unlike most leagues, V-League still require youth players to be registered, while limiting the squad to 25). To be fair, there’s hardly any chance that we can regress further. It’s not like we are going to lose against war-ridden Myanmar or the-only-ASEAN-country-that-have-proper-name-in-FC25-youth-scout (aka Timor Leste, since they just use the Portuguese name base). It’s just sad y’know.

Calling diaspora to play for their ancestral homeland has been proven to be successful. Look at Morocco's fairytail run the world cup. Heck, even Italy is now doing the same thing with their diaspora in Argentina in response to their back to back failure to qualify for the world cup.

I worked as a ball boy for sometime in a local youth competition. These kids can play and some of them are impressive but our federation never do shit about developing youth player. There's something inherently wrong in the youth to professional pipeline.

Ironically, Indonesia are more than willing to naturalise where it benefits them, however, in circumstances where it would help you personally, i.e. the notion of dual nationality etc, it's strictly forbidden. Yep, pay my taxes to the UK, been educated in the UK, Indonesian by birth, but nope, they want to make it hard for me to work and travel because of some deep rooted Pancasila bollocks of an Indonesia for all, which ironically causes more ethnic tensions and rifts due to the immensely diverse culture. Folk often look at ex-indonesian nationals as traitors to the nation (and quite probably the same nationalist folk who are up in arms about having non-natives in Team Nas). Now lump into this 4th or 5th generation descendents, I can see where the natives are understandably pissed, but alas, like you say, competition is good. Pick and take when convenient, but at least their footie team is doing well, which is what counts. Having feet in both camps, it's fair to say that pragmatism needs to be a two way street. One true Indonesia is a bastardised mish-mash of all the influencing cultures of its rich history, which is what most of South East Asia is all about... It just depends which flag you got colonised by. One thing that unites Indo and Uk together is that Malang effectively told Hillsboro to hold their beer. The passion for football and the sad tragedies of police brutality and misconduct.

So when he inevitably couldn't deliver, PSSI suddenly terminated his contract, and when they received backlash from the public due to that stupid-ass decision (the team actually started playing so much better and more organized under Milla), they tried contacting him and offered him a new contract but by that time the damage was already done and Milla rejected that.
