I don't think my fellow Filipinos realize, but the reason she says we Filipinos are Pacific Islander is because most 3rd gen Filipino immigrants in the US aka 90s kids onwards claim Pacific Islander ancestry because it was cool, especially in California. 😂 Indo lady sounds like she went to school there if she's 35.

100% correct. It is Filipino Americans who live in the coast that keep on claiming the Pacific Islander name, even though the Philippines is literally geographically located in South East ASIA. Those Filipino Americans take it as an insult to be even told by actual Pacific Islanders, like Samoans that Filipinos are not Pacific Islanders. It is more crazy for the woman to say Filipinos and Indonesians don't alike, considering the people are indistinguishable from each other when it comes to physical features and stature, the languages are even closer to one another relationship wise. The Southern Philippines practically has many Malaysians, which also is indistinguishable from Indonesians. My Auntie from the Philippines moved to Indonesia for a short term contractual work in tourism promotion and she already spoke four Filipino languages. She was shocked she understood conversations in Indonesian without having ever studied it.

Saying Filipinos aren’t technically southeast Asian is the dumbest thing someone can say. Not to mention highly insulting since the Philippines has has a LONG history of trade and contact with the rest of Asia. Parts of it was literally under Brunei rule and some of the ancient kingdoms paid regular tribute to China. Also it’s a founding member of ASEAN. It’s like saying the Uk and Ireland aren’t European. Filipinos are not Pacific Islanders, this has been proven. Filipinos are Austronesians the same with people from taiwan and the rest of south east asia. In fact archeological records show that human actvitiy in the philippines predates those in Indonesia and Malaysia because the AUstronesians went south from Taiwan. This is a fact both through genetics and archeological data. The reason Filipinos look different is due to the saturation of foreign blood and alot of chinese mix as well, cuz Philippines is more of a traditional trading post from Mainland China. IF you however, look at the Bisaya and people from mindanao they are starting to look like indonesians and malaysians. Tbh, Filipinos are the most Austronesian country when it comes to genetics and linguistically speaking. Sure, most of Filipinos are christianized mostly are of Catholics but it has Austronesian fusion beliefs on it that's why it's still diffirent from Latin American tho latam has native american fusion as well. Speaking of food it's a combination of Pacific islander and Asian. Filipino also has more chinese ancestry 8 times bigger than the colonizer ancestry. Filipino can speak english so it's easy to assimilate to the western culture bur Generally Philippine is still very Asian. specifically SEAsian.

36% is the official number of Filipino with Chinese-ancestry. People forget that Luzon had a Chinese kingdom that were related to the Ming. And the Hokkien, which are Han, were in Luzon long before the Spanish arrived. Also, Jose Rizal had Tagalog-Spanish-Chinese ancestry, and so were his parents. Someone long ago told me Jose Rizal didn't consider himself Chinese, he considered himself "Austronesian/Pacific Islander". Like, bro, what are y'all smoking, he's literally more Chinese than Tagalog. 😂

I think she is speaking what other Southeast Asians in general their true perspective how they see us Filipinos They don't consider us as Asians. They have grouped us with other Pacific pokeysuans we beling with Guam, Micronesia, Samoa, Solomon Islands and other such pacific nations not Asian. In a way SEA natiins ir the whole East Asia for nany decades since mid-70's have looked down on us we are below them. Why do you think for years been calling us the "Sick Man Of Asia". They never understood our affinity with western culture. Ither Asians were under western powers too such as Portuguese, Dutch, British, French but their poeple resisted adapting western culture so that is why they vuew us as sell-outs as we embrace western nations f^^king our rear ends. And being Christians doesn't help either. That is why if China does make war with us these ASEAN neighbors won"t help us. Maybe Japan and South Korea might send combat materials but it will be very minimal as they are saving resources in case China attacks Taiwan.

Filipino dont care about of what others eat. eat what you want. whether if it is by belief or by needs. as long as you are good to others. everyone is welcome here. religion is not a big deal in the Philippines. the only thing that foreigners need to do is to ask and find where to buy their needs in ph to lessen their struggle. if someone dont like the taste of filipino food feel free to buy or bring what kind of food that they like. it doesnt matter to us.

@@TravelwithSaj89 We have a considerable Muslim population concentrated in Mindanao. There are pockets of Muslim communities in Metro Manila and other major cities. I'm assuming there are halal restaurants within or nearby. I've known some local Muslims who are not strict with their food. Muslims tourists will find it hard to buy halal food generally but there are Mediterranean/ Persian food available in some restaurants. There are also some vegetarian restaurants. Filipinos love pork and chicken. Filipinos have Spanish, Indian, Chinese and American food influence. We also like Japanese and some Korean food. A lot of our food are simple, survival comfort food that goes perfectly with rice. We can practically eat any cuisine. That's one of the reasons why Filipinos can work and live in most countries around the world. A recent survey showed we like Lebanese food the least. There are some Indonesian/Thai/Viet Restaurants scattered around the main cities. I have two Pho places to go to when I can crave it. I've been to Jakarta and Bali. I did not eat anything memorable. Same with Kuala Lumpur. The best Nasi Goreng I've tasted was from a local food fusion place in my city. I'm planning to visit Thailand and Vietnam in the near future to try out some local food. One of my go-to place while in college was a Thai-restaurant with a Vietnamese cook. She married a Filipino. She was a local legend. Her Tom Yum was the best I've tasted. Filipinos are SE Asian with strong Hispanic influence. Some even call us the Mexicans of Asia. We can also eat Mexican/ Latin American food.
