Glad to see that several street vendors in Blok M can speak English quite well. Thumbs up for "Mbak Kue Cubit and Abang Boba." Hopefully, more people in Indonesia can speak basic English like them. Anyway, nice video. I really like the way you respect local food and culture. Really fit couple.

Some food suggestions while you're in Jakarta: - Ketoprak (rice noodle, rice cake, bean sprouts, tofu + peanut sauce all over, with crackers and fried egg on top) - Gado-gado (one of Indonesia's takes on salad: various green veggies, corn, tofu, tempe (or tempeh, made from fermented soybeans like tofu, but different), showered with peanut sauce, with crackers on top, eaten with either rice or rice cake) - Nasi Goreng (our national dish, our take on Fried Rice, which you've probably eaten before, comes in well over 104 variations across the country) - Sate Ayam (Grilled chicken skewers, also a national dish, you'd probably tasted this one already, we actually have over 252 types of them with different meats but mostly chicken, beef, goat, different cooking/marination method, and different types of sauce) - Siomay (a distant relative of the Chinese dimsum, steamed fish dumplings served together with other steamed items including fish-stuffed tofu, hard boiled eggs, cabbage, potato, and bittermelon, covered in peanut sauce) - Batagor (deep fried fish dumplings served with peanut sauce) - Bubur Ayam (translates as Chicken Congee, but it's not just congee with chicken meat. sauces are applied into it, as well as a myriad of toppings) - Ketupat Sayur (vegetable stew with tofu, egg, rice cake and crackers) - Kerak Telor (native Jakarta omelet dish made from eggs, coconut flakes, and dried shrimp, the cooking process is interesting as the wok would be turned upside down with the omelet facing the fire) - Pempek (deep fried fishcakes of various shapes and fillings, served with dark vinegar sauce) - Es campur (Dessert/Drink : Shaved ice with fruits, jellies, condensed milk, and syrup) - Pisang Goreng (translates as 'Fried Banana') Dessert/Snack: Deep fried flour coated banana - Klepon (green gelatinous balls with red sugar caramel filling, topped with coconut flakes) - Martabak (you've tasted this of course, in a previous video) - Bakmi Ayam/Mie Ayam (Chicken noodle) - Bakmi Goreng/Mie Goreng (Fried Noodles, wherever you can find Nasi Goreng, you'll find this one too, should remind you of Chinese fried noodles, but ours is usually quite different). - Ayam penyet/Ayam geprek (mashed fried chicken with spicy sambal applied on top. Ayam Penyet uses traditional fried chicken, while Ayam Geprek uses deep fried crispy flour-coated chicken (imagine KFC's crispy chicken)) I think I've listed most of the basics, the top of the iceberg :D. You'll probably find more when you ask around in your travels.

I notice that some viewers are recommending that you guys go to Chinatowns in PIK2 and Glodok, and they're correct. These places do offer a different vibe and has so many food to choose from, especially at PIK2. However, I think PIK2 as well as most of the landmarks in Central, North, and West Jakarta has seen many tourist exposures, including foreign youtubers, either by recommendation or proximity. A lot of foreign youtubers visiting Jakarta tend to stay somewhere in Central or West Jakarta, which gives them good access to sites in the north like PIK. This is understandable since they probably would want to stay somewhere near the airport (which is in the northwest). As a result, many areas in the East and South of Jakarta are not too well exposed. I can't speak for East Jakarta, but Blok M is a good start for exploring South Jakarta. There are many unique places for food hunting (both modern and traditional), sightseeing, and night life here. Other recommended areas and their highlights are: - Blok S, - Sudirman (high-rise offices, malls, including SCBD (Sudirman Central Business District) where famous malls Ashta and Pacific Place are located), - Senopati (fancy restaurants and night life and connects with SCBD Business District), - Kemang (an area well known for expat communities, kind of like Canggu in Bali, but not really lol), - Tebet (various eateries, big and small, traditional and modern, border with East Jakarta, easily reachable using the KRL train system from Central Jakarta). - Etc. I also noted another comment down here about the Southies' level of English. There's a common joke, mockery, or whatever you call it about the speaking customs of SOME South Jakarta middle-upper class (and their wannabes) youngsters called 'Bahasa Jaksel' (South Jakartan Language), which is an interesting (and often cringey and/or cheesy) mix of Indonesian and English, but don't imagine it being anything close to the famous Singaporean English or Singlish. Being a speaker of Bahasa Jaksel absolutely does not guarantee that the person has good command in actual English, slang or not, lol, but it does show a certain degree of comprehension you can trust. That being said, South Jakarta, is probably your best bet for finding regular average joe Indonesians that would understand English better than the rest of the capital. no offense to the others lol.

I’ve been to Blok M Jakarta.. Yes, you’re right, the street food culture in Jakarta is really a big thing. Unlike here in Manila, it’s not so… our authorities banned them for obstructing pedestrians and traffic. In Jakarta, we’ve tried another cool of sidewalk vendors in that street going to Chinatown. Forgot the name… They only opened from dusk to early morning and they are set up along the roads and sidewalks! Cool new stuff. Cheers fr Manila.

Go to North Jakarta Kelapa Gading... Find 1. Kondro Karebosi Kelapa Gading (menu : Kondro Bakar) 2. Seafood 212.. Bakar, Asam manis, Saos Tiram, dont go Saos Padang (too spicy for you).

That's way our economy can growth dramatically...we have lots of street food vendor to offer...50% of our 1,3 trilion dollar GDP based on these economy...it's triggered factory to produce ketchup, many kind of soft drink, coklat and etc our society was easy going and not hustle culture...our family connection still preserve...there is no concern to spend lots of our wage for food..money was not the problem for us but family connection was

Green color on kue cubit is from Pandan leaf. It's alot use in tradisional dessert in Indonesia, so u will fine alot Green dessert cake.

The rice in banana leaves is called Lontong. It's such as rice cake. It's commonly found in Sate (satay), gado-gado, ketoprak, etc. Some Indonesian foods are served with LONTONG (rice cake) instead of rice. Please try GADO-GADO, it's Indonesian salad with peanut sauce :)

Blok m area was nice in 90's There is little tokyo in corner of blok m. Now is so quiet and little ugly 🙋

you have tried sate padang which as far i know are from cow tongue, why not try the full course meal padang food recommended "pagi sore restaurant" you will offered bunch of food there on table, be warned only eat what you will pay, if you tasted all the food on the table you must pay all the food

That dessert drink at the end is my favourite one. You should try Taro Milk Creamcheese, the combination is unusual but taste good.

Kuecubit is one of the street snacks that children love the most in Indonesia...with a cute shape and a delicious but not too sweet taste that makes it very popular...Kuecubit has two types to choose from, namely with a cute round mold shape, chewy , soft and tender. and the other one is shaped like a cobweb or spiderweb with a slightly crunchy texture on the outside but still soft inside and of the two it is usually served sprinkled with chocolate meses

You can try go to skywalk in Senayan park of Jakarta, and bright Pinisi..and labuan bajo komodo dragon island ❤️👍 that's place is so beautiful ❤️

Kue cubit that you had is green, so they add pandan leaves on it. The green usually comes from pandan leaves. I personally prefer kue Ape than kue cubit.. especially if they make to order, I usually ask for half cooked ape. But not everyone like half cooked ape... My fave dessert (maybe you can try), Is fruit based beverages e.g es teler (coconut+avocado+jackfruit), and es pisang ijo (banana wrapped in green dough). Es is Indonesian word for ice, so it means iced something.

If you go to Blok-M, I think you should try "Gultik", is abbreviation from "Gule tikungan" means Gule in the corner. People gave the name. It is kind of legendary street food. Gule is like a soup. The location is at the corner of Blok-M Plaza (outside of the plaza). Besides that you can find "Ayam Bakar Ganthari" accros of the street (if you want to try). Also if you like porridge, you can go to "Bubur ayam barito" around that area. All the stall open after sunset, around 6pm. You like "Sate padang". I am also like it. Actually, You should try "Soto padang". If you stay around center of Jakarta you can try "Nasi goreng kambing kebon sirih". Kebon sirih is the name of area, near tanah abang. It is also kind of famous place. Have a good trip guys 🙂

Haha, Blok M Square is considered 'mid-to-high end' place to get Street food in Jakarta. BUT, if you care about hygiene and surroundings when enjoying your food, or something a lil bit more organized with transparent price list, Blok M Square is the great place to start. It is easily accessible by public transport as well... . It is crowded but NOT crazy crowded which is great though. Not to mention, Blok M is in the middle of South Jakarta, which is the 'high-end' part of Jakarta as well, many people are able to speak 'limited' English though, not the vendors, but regular passer-by. Blok M area is home of GoJek headquarters and several Financial Company Headquarters as well, so many 'educated' passer-by who speaks medium to fluent English. Blok M by itself is not considered 'high-end' BUT the surrounding area is definitely high-end neighborhood.

blok m area actually have everything u need to explore indonesia culinary in one places.. n in blom square at night should have dozen traditional food stall, where u sit on floor/carpet, like picnic .maybe another side of building .blok m known as little tokyo too.. just search restorant,/food in gmaps, so many food too chooses.
