Dude! Thanks for breaking down this topic. I go back and forth with indoor/outdoor arrows every year and your explanations are super helpful. Someday, somebody will invent a super forgiving, fast, 23.... X-10 on the back, Superdrive on the front.

Thanks for the insight, Jake! By the way, thank you for dedicating the books I purchased. That was super nice and very appreciated. Good Arrows and all the best!

First, thank you for this video, and all the other videos you've done. Your videos have been quite helpful in acquainting me with 'modern' archery...and, after a 40 absence, I've decided to get back into it. Although my previous bow was a Bear compound, I am looking to get a competitive-grade recurve (barebow). I'm not saying that I will get back into competition...but, if I decide to, I'd already have what's needed Anyway, after considerable research, watching RU-vid videos from you & others, and talking with the people at Aces & Arrows (Las Vegas, where I'm currently visiting a family member), I've created a list of almost everything needed/wanted for the initial set. Obviously, arrows is part of that list, this this video is very helpful. It's a shame that Carbon Express is not only discontinuing the CX Maxima Recurve RZ, but that they are (evidentially) discontinuing all arrows, as this arrow could have been a strong possibility. Thankfully, you presented other options, some of which are now on that list. Speaking of my list, I've narrowed my riser options down to two finalists - Hoyt Arcos & Gillo GQ - to which I'm hoping you and/or others can provide a little input/recommendation. Best I can tell, both are of approximately the same quality, price, and 'level'. What I'm trying to find out is if either is better than the other, and why. Also, what are the advantages & disadvantages of each, compared to the other? I searched online for comparisons of these two, but couldn't find any (the closest I could find was Gillo G2 vs Hoyt Arcos). Any 'help' on this would be greatly appreciated.

Started shooting barebow recently, and find that the Superdrive 23s are very forgiving especially as still a newbie archer, when compared to the hybrid Procomps that I had been using for recurve. The latter not making a great transition to barebow for me personally. Thanks for another massively informative video Jake

The video I was looking for. I’ve got brand new RX7 22 with 100 grain tip and I love them. Spine is 475 so I had to Boost my bow limbs up to 44#. Then I stopped training for a few months and when I went back I had to start from 38# which I’m shooting right now. I tried using a 200 grain tip but didn’t work well. I shot them with the original 100 and am able to shoot extremely tight and well even though if the spine is too rigid. Love them and recommend them

In the old days all we had were parallel shaft aluminum arrows. We had a theory that a heavier arrow with larger feathers and heavy points would be more forgiving of a bad release so we tried them for indoors. We were able to shoot good scores with them but we never drew any conclusions of heavy arrow vs. light arrow. It looked like we were shooting hunting arrows indoors. Your theory of the tapered arrows being more forgiving of a bad release could also apply to a straight shaft arrow with a heavy point in that the center of gravity of the arrow would be farther forward.

John Dillinger won Lancaster, Vegas and US Nationals in barebow 2020 using Victory VXTs. It's a skinny arrow that is weak in the back end. I really like it, but I'm not sure how many other barebow archers are using it.

For indoor, I use a longbow or a vintage stick recurve with fat arrows, usually wood shaft.

Shooting the RX arrows for both indoor OR and barebow. Specifically the RX 7 in 21, as shooting the giant 23's would require crazy point weight, or long shaft length, both of which seem counter to good arrow flight and forgiveness IMHO. I really like them, and they are as close to a X10 as a fat arrow can currently get. Running 120 grain points, super easy to tune and get set up.

I just purchased a dozen bare shaft Carbon Express RZ Recurve arrows from Feradyne. I was also able to get the inserts and glue in tips (tips from Feradyne, inserts from Lancaster). Carbon Express apparently reconsidered removing the arrows from their inventory - glad they did as I shoot barebow. I am comparing how they fly to the Victory VFT Elites (same straightness specs as the RZ Recurves). The jury is still out, but the Victory arrows are more attractive price wise..

I am trying the Skylon Brixxon for indoor. Very good price and will allow me to save my outdoor arrow getting smashed by others.
@dick-gs9tb

Pretty good arrow for the money. I shoot Paragons outdoors and considered Brixxons for this upcoming indoor season due to them being slightly heavier and thicker but still maintaining the overall characteristics of my outdoor arrows. In the end I went with the 5.2 ID Quantics instead, which are slightly thicker but not really a "line cutter" like the Superdrives or X Busters.

Thank you for this insightful video. I am totally new to archery. Just bought and am practicing with a recurve bow PCE Night Hawk, and carbon fiber arrows. The plastic fletchings are already breaking off after only a few days of practice, though! This seems extremely fragile. Is that normal? How to replace them and prevent it from happening? Im guessing they are getting damaged when shooting past the bow shelf, since the arrows generally do not shoot all the way through my targets up to or past the end fletchings.

Hello Jake, I was wondering about using your vanes on some aluminium arrows, I don't want to use feathers, I figured they would be the next best thing due to the surface area, have you had any experience shooting the wav pro's indoors. (Specifically the easton xx75 is what I may put it on, so the slightly budget version of the x7 I think)

switched to carbon 23's for indoor and it's going pretty well. 33 inch arrows(skylon brux) with 150gr points. Awaiting new feathers and a jig for left helical. Gonna try messing around with 6 feathers aswell just for the fun of it and see what happens. Getting the point weight right was super annoying since i had to go home every time & reglue the points.

Hi Jake, I have been discussing arrows for Indoor with my coach in the last time. My question is, how do you aim so low (relation sight bar to Tunnel) with X10 for 18m? Looking at like Brady who typicaly shoots 46-50 lb but still aims relatively high. But I shoot about 42lb full Carbon 450 Avance have to aim further down. I hope you can understand my question and I am looking forward to an answer of you.
@weepinangel4485
@weepinangel4485 Год назад
If I had to guess I would say it has to do with the distance from his eye to how anchor point. The longer that is the higher up your sight pin will be.

Thank you for the video, Jake. You made one error. They are called RX-7s, not RX-23s. I love them. They are also a lot weaker than the Easton charts would suggest. Everyone in the archery shop was rather surprised when I was having to make the points lighter and lighter; finishing at 100gr. I do shoot near 50lbs but the arrows are only about 28 1/4 inches amo. I hope some of that information helps.

Just got myself a set of the Easton rx7 for my recurve setup and see a few peole in the comments have them as well. Do any of you find that you have to set a really high nocking point when bareshaft tuning (stopped at 12mm and bareshafts were still high). Wondering if I should get myself a zniper rest as currently using a shibuya and thought a drop away rest might help.

Do you feel like your Olympic recurve shooting game has gotten better with all your barebow practice? I picked up my compound bow the other day after not shooting it for about a year. I've been shooting my long bow traditionally sense last hunting season. My accuracy with my compound bow went way up. seams soo much easier after not having pins and a peep for months of practice.
