When I lived in Oregon we had 4 huge rosemary bushes growing in our yard and we could not get rid of them when we tried one time, but then I started using it in a lot of foods we eat. We had plenty of rosemary all the time. We gave it to our neighbors too. I never watered the rosemary or anything except occasionally I would trim it when I worked in the yard. It grew all year round even in the middle of Winter.

I had grown green onions outside (bought at grocery store, directly sown root bottoms to soil) and they provided for about 2 years until a windy storm completely destroyed the entire pot. I'm trying again, indoors and they are growing even faster this time. It's been 3 days and they are going crazy. I already had a grow light for some houseplants so green onions are just chilling in the corner of my dining area that is slowly becoming a tiny jungle in the the desert. :) Indoor gardening in very, very rewarding, but word of warning, quarantine new plants before you bring them in with the others. It took me a month to save my plants from fungus gnats. Haha

I've been growing outside herbs for about 7 years now, and I'm finally convinced that I will never put either basil or flat leafed parsley in a group planter ever again! I consider both herbs the "bully" plants - they completely dominate and overtake everything else! My go-to herbs are Flat leaf parsley, sweet basil, thyme, dill, chives and rosemary. This winter I will attempt my first indoor herb garden. Thanks for the suggestions!

I do the "single file" method with my indoor herbs. For things like dill & cilantro I do succession planting so I've always got a pot or two ready to use. Basil is a great indoor plant that keeps producing over & over. When the plants get 5-6 sets of leaves I top off the upper 3 sets & put those into a cup of water to sprout. Those become my next crop of basil plants. Lather, rinse, repeat for endless basil...and pesto, which is easy to make & stores in the freezer indefinitely. 😋

I started last year with absolutely no experience. I picked mint and planted it in a container that had no drainage holes, with store bought moisture control potting mix (because I was worried my adhd brain would forget to water or I would overwater due to lack of experience). It’s been a little bit of a roller coaster with points where it was completely thriving and points where I practically killed it. Mint is a great starter if you need motivation because it’s so sturdy and bounces back really well. This year I’m expanding to dill which I understand is much more picky and demanding so wish me luck lol I’ll be using a container with drainage at least though.

I'm starting plants indoors that will ultimately go outside in spring for pollinator forage. I hope to get a jump on things this way. Hyssop, I hope it works! I wish you all the best.

The snow storm killed my rosemary in Feb (Arkansas usually doesn't get a week of snow!!) But I had cuttings inside. Now her babies are thriving again outside... will probably bring a few cuttings inside to propagate for just in case🥰

Hi there, If you are one that grows indoor plants, i would recommend to opt for organic, vegan and peat-free compost, as well as organic liquid feed that does not contain sea weed due to radiation in the seas, i believe.
