Induction heating of graphite ring covered with BN(Boron Nitride). A great example of thermal radiation at different temperatures. Unfortunately, the coating that supposed to protect graphite from oxidation, could not handle such extreme temperatures.

In glass blowing industry, they work with graphite tools to put force on heatet glass, as it does not stick to the glas. Unfortunately, the tools wear out pretty fast. Could this precedure make these tool more durable?

I am not expert on this, but the brief experience showed that coating wears off the graphite if there is repeated mechanical contact.

It would reduce oxidation compared to a gas heater, if you’re using some sort of blowtorch.

How did you get 4 coats of boron nitride?

It was a while ago, but as I remeber we sprayed them ourselves. So that means we just waited for it to dry and coated it again - nothing fancy. And 4 coats was just an arbitary chosen number.

What would happen if you use a glass of water would it heat up?
@MHDTechnologyLaboratory
@MHDTechnologyLaboratory 5 лет назад
No. One can't heat water with induction, because it is not conductive enough. For heating water you can use GHz frequencies (microwaves). Then heating mechanism is different from induction heating and works because of dielectric properties of water .

@@CUBETechie Yes. Induction can heat steel easily, there is whole industry around it.
