I don't understand what they mean by "three day week". Do they mean you only get 72 hours electricity a week ? If it means only working 3 days a week then why is that a bad thing if they're paid for only 3 days?
@zeddeka
@zeddeka 5 месяцев назад
Of course, you could have just Googled it. Energy was rationed, so businesses were only working for 3 days a week. If you're only paid for 3 days, you're obviously getting paid less because you're not working for 5 days' work. That's not a good thing is it? People had less money to spend, and that meant businesses also suffered because people weren't spending . It also means the country is producing far less, so there are obvious economic ramifications. Electricity to the home was also rationed and people often had to use candles and find other ways to heat their homes. Many small businesses couldn't handle it and went bust. The economic problems it caused were huge.

@@zeddeka OK. But how high were the prices of goods? They were high just before Thatcher became PM but the 3 day week was long before that

A little confused as this I’m sure would be the early seventies under Ted Heaths premiership not 1978 as at this time James Callaghan was Prime Minister

Thames TV, stop putting an advert right after the first five seconds of each of your videos. It is pathetic and irritating. Move the ad to later on in the video.

What's pathetic and irritating is your comment. The Thames intro is classic and nostalgic. Not to mention the intro always played at the beginning when Thames was on air.

@@Eric_200 Eric, I meant that Thames TV have decided to put an advert break into their videos after the first ten seconds. Not about the superb Thames Television intro ident which I adore and always have. Read my comment again and you see what I meant.

John King in that case, please forgive my presumption. I purchased Premium a few months ago so thankfully I don’t get bombarded by those any longer. Thanks for the clarification and happy Thames-ing to you sir.

John King I totally agree. I love it when I see new uploads from them. Makes me happy and a little sad at the same time to watch these gems from the recent past. Britain and the West are almost unrecognisably different today so it’s nice to remember days gone by.
