Powerful marine propulsion systems, reliable gear units and innovative control electronics: the product range of the Norwegian Brunvoll Group is large. Accordingly, the batch sizes are often less than 15 parts. A challenge for production!
The solution: Manufacturing automation. Using manufacturing robots, Brunvoll can utilize two unmanned shifts a day in addition to the conventional shift. DMG MORI's autonomous manufacturing solution is based on the modular MATRIS system and included an NTX 3000, a conveyor system for Euro pallets and a FANUC robot. Thanks to the fully automated and process-reliable production of a wide range of components, Brunvoll AS was able to significantly increase their capacities.

I worked on some of the old Mills and lathes left over from WW2. Then on some of the earliest NC MNC & CNC machines , . The to mill / turn centres setting machining in the aerospace industry. This machine with its robot operator is doing my job . I don't mind , I now work supporting people with learning disabilities. Just the smell of a machine shop would make me run !

Are you utilizing manufacturing robots to run unmanned shifts? What does your ideal setup look like?

Мы в работе роботов не используем. Робот не обладает способностью к труду и не производит прибавочной стоимости. Высокие технологии убьют в итоге капитализм(привет от Карла Маркса).

I'd love a setup like they've got, but for series of 100-1000+ parts. We've got an NTX1000gen2 that has a loader, and NTX2000gen2 which will get a bigger robot for bigger parts. It has reduced our production time by a lot, and lets me do more important things like programming the next part, or helping others. Robots and in machine automation(workpiece probes, tool checks, etc) removes all the worst parts about being a machinist, which is sitting on your butt, loading/unloading short cycle parts, and measuring. Now I get to play with the machines, and CAM as much as I want! And with more and more labour shifting away from industry work, but with increasing demand, it's sorely needed.

@@MrXtacle one of the big wins of this system is that we can produce on demand, reducing stock. Most of the articles in the machine is produced 100-200 pr year, but we run about 12-24 pr order.

@@barretw I've seen similar shops with similar systems, even including loading bar stock into saws, then taking the cutoffs directly to the machine. They were also doing small quantity to keep stocks low, or non-existent, and exclusively on demand, even for single parts. It's something I'd want to try and implement into our other machines, but we run mostly inconel718, so not sure how feasible it is.
