My husband is always saying that pocket-holes aren't strong enough for him to want to use for anything that people will put weight on. How well do pocket-holes hold up and how long would a piece like this last?

Pocket holes ultimately arent as strong as traditional wood joinery like dowels or dominos, but a lot of the time straight wood glue will be stronger than pocket screws.

This is a great build. I've watched it before and came back to see it because I wan't to build one. One question.. why use the 1x4's as the stretcher? Why not just use a 2x4? Either way... it's great. Just curious.

Any coats of poly over the stain? Will the stain rub off onto light colored pants in an unsealed condition (even though it’s dried)??

MoziseCT yes! We use triple thick polyurethane by Varathane!

careful with a steamy bathroom and wood, take that into account and watch some real carpenters, there's probably a few extra steps you need to take on the framing to account for the moisture.

Wish you had shown how you stained it too? I am trying to stain an IKEA table I got. I am looking for a similar stain but all the readily available stains are too brown and boring.

it's just cut wood, a big box will cut it for you, just tell them your dimensions and do as they did, nail, screw and glue because they aren't even sanding or planing, that will be the difference in a nice finished products and what it looks like years later. You can't just glue and screw wood together without accounting for twisting and bowing especially a breadboard design but it's cute for a minute.

I am so heartbroken, I asked my husband to help me make my very first project, I wanted it to be cheap and once we were in Home Depot, he kept telling me to get the nicer hardwood boards that cost $8-$12/ft and at that moment, I felt like, I cant do this! I was so inspired after watching your video, and totally brought down upon coming with honey to home depot :(

You didn't read the instructions. They provided a wood list and FREE PLANS. The free plans will have all the dimentsions you need to make the bench.

Home Depot and Lowes will NOT cut dimensional wood for you. 'Cut' is for dimensional wood (circular, mitre or "skil" saw cuts) and 'rip' for plywood (table saw cuts). Dimensional wood is stuff like 2x4's, 2x6's, etc.

they do rough cuts, their just trying to help with the transporting from store so don't expect exact cuts, hope that's helps or you'll be in carpentry class trying to figure it out.

This is by far the best woodworking book I have ever read, “pepe amazing plan” (Google it). My woodworking instructor endorses it to all of his scholars. I am surprised by the level of detail the authors go into topics. I`m surprised by the material and did not have a difficult time following the lessons.

Make this if you have a saw stop table saw. Otherwise, do not rip 2x4 or 2x6 on a table saw. Very, very dangerous, unless you have experience. This is a wreckless build

This video is dangerous. 2x4 have hidden tension. A bind could maim or kill. Very stupid of you to publish this. You should be ashamed. The ripping is properly done on a band saw. Ask me how I know.

watch more real carpenter videos before you take that advice and do the simple steps to insure your piece stays nice, breadboard is not that simple and wood expands and contracts so you're on track if you want it to stay nice. Look for breadboard design and do as they do, it's not complicated but can be necessary depending on the wood, cut and your climate. One tip is to alternate the grain so flip every other board, that will help with cupping.
