ELECTRICAL SAFETY NOTE: Hey everyone, I made a mistake in the wiring of the switch. As Mike and Wayne indicated in the comments below I have the break in the White/Neutral in the switch, and that should be the Black/Hot. If you wire it as I have done you could create as shock hazard as Mike pointed out, your lamp will always be "live." So I have already switched this in my lamp, but if you make your own be sure to set yours up accordingly.

But, the live wire and the neutral wire get swapped if the plug is flipped over... American wiring is terrifying /Brit

All you really need to do is show yourself wiring two brand new wires into a new box from 9-9:30, correct the voice-over and movie magic will take care of the rest. You don't have to take anything apart.

It looks like you used a non-polarized plug. Regardless of how you wire the switch the plug could still be put in the other way around. I would always unplug it before changing the bulb.

Cool lamp. The aluminum plate looks like it is to a motor. The opening reminds me of where the stator would sit.

A little tip, sodering the copper wire helps to make the ends that goes to the lamp stronger.

Metal cover is for either a small engine or drivetrain transfer case. When you get more of the same plastic greeblies you should make a hanging light with red color film on the inside n make some clear long tabs to go from top to the bottom holding the film against the frame n screw the upright clear pieces together on the ends

Tin the leads of stranded wire , and that keeps " strays" from causing shorts. LED bulbs are great...not much heat, and that makes design easier. Two jobs ago, I did some work for a small town college drama department...mostly lighting. Cool video!

Dear Brian, may I give you two advices : 1/ Always used stain and iron-solder to secure and avoid shortcircuits and dangerous shocks ! Put a drop of stain wire on every copper wire before put a thermo-retractable sheath, it's easy to do and very effective . My Dad had always said that stain wire and iron-solder are the best friends of the electrician ! 2/ You are saying in the video that you like make lamps of every kind so I hope that you will see the amazing job made in Greece by someone that is, like you, a true artist ! you could see all his lamps (and more) on the " Banjo show " RU-vid channel ! Take care of you and your family and stay healthy ! From France .

Really fun episode with great music too! I'd love to have one of those for my living space. Not only does it fit the Star Wars aesthetic, but its also a great industrial looking lamp. Awesome lighting project it looks great! Just a electrical safety tip always break the hot wire with the switch and the power stops at the switch. If you do the neutral wire it will go through the switch and the light then back to the switch where it then stops the power. Leaving your light in a always ( hot) condition that can shock you if worked on live. Love your show ❤

Thank you Mike. That was what I thought too, but i kept finding information that showed the opposite? I may have read that wrong somewhere though. So what you are saying is that in the switch the "Hot" needed to be on the terminals correct?

Awesome lamp and really good tutorial, I would recommend as an electrician to switch the hot (Black) wire even though the screws in the switch are silver. Reason being that in your Edison fixture the pin at the bottom will always be hot even when the light switch is off when switching the neutral, which means if you were trying to replace a lightbulb and your finger slips in there you get 120 V surprise, if you take down one of your switch plates in your house you will notice that your hot wires are switched for this very reason.

I also use that Vallejo paint with the airbrush and it's amazing. Try Mecha series also from Vallejo. Regular Vallejo paints, even Air, are a pain in the ass for airbrushing, but those work well. Nice lamp, btw.

Tho I am also a huge star wars fan I named my glowforge based on star trek.. Glowdi LaForge. So a glowforge named from star wars could be Glowbi Wan.. the forge is strong with this one.

Sweet lamp. Crosses a few genres too, from sci-fi to diesel and steam punk. I can even see that as a ceiling fixture or wall sconce. Before you said those were off cuts I thought you deliberately made those for this project, way to reuse waste. Hour and a half to drill out 24 pieces? You'd never last a day in a machine shop lol.

Brian, look up a tool called "transfer punches". They allow you to mark holes from one object onto another, with a higher degree of precision. Pick up a cheep st at harbor freight. Remember they are for marking, not making the final dimple. You would still use your center punch for that. I thought you might find them useful

@@TheSmugglersRoom I was thinking the same thing. They are well worth the spend! Also, something I've noticed as I'm binging Junk Bashing vid's, etc. is drill bits. Everyone could really use a set of Brad Point drill bits. These a spike in the center and two spike teeth on the OD of the bit. They stay centered (unlike regular Twist bits that wander/skate all over the place) and the OD teeth cut the plastic/wood/ whatever much cleaner. Perhaps you've got some by now. But just thought I'd mention it. Thanks!

Wow that is so cool! I would love to have that by my bed on the nightstand... ! Hmmm? I just got done making a desk clock out of a old hard drive with leds. Not a novel idea but I made it out old broken stuff and the Clock movement was out of a old broken clock my sister was tossing out and I save the movement months ago... The IDE Hard Drive was one that quit because it was clicking. Now it is Clicking the " Time A Way "... The 12v power supply for the led's was just one of the wallwarts one collects... Lol Thanks you for the video! LLAP I think I know what the kids are getting for Xmas! CLOCKS!!!! :-D

Yes it can. The top is compression fit on, and it pops off to swap the bulb.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see in the comments that these have already been suggested and purchased. @12:34 You really need a set of transfer punches for doing that. They're super handy for marking the center of a hole for drilling and only ~$20 on Amazon.
