That was hilarious when you told Jeff Burton to put sunscreen on his face. Made me think of an odd random question that I’ve always wondered about. Before they cut to you for a live interview on tv do the pit reporters give you an idea of what they’re going to ask you so you have a minute or two to think about your answer or is it just always out of the blue? The thought of talking live on national broadcast TV sounds scarier than driving the car.
Thanks so much for the behind the curtain look at what happened with your car. There is so much more than just go out there and give it the beans. Very crazy qualy for a lot of people, very entertaining to watch!
I watched a shit ton of Indycar this weekend. I like Scotty Mac, but Rossi getting after it was great to see. Seems like Penske fatigue may be deep in the padsock these days. Long race and anything can happen! Can't wait.
History making time. There has not been anyone to win when starting in 29th position. 2 wins from 28 though so it's possible for sure. Supporting Daly Mission from here in Finland. Goooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
im already looking forward to 2025 500 quals with the added weight from the hybrid systems and the monkey wrench that throws on teams to figure out tyre drop off by lap 4. i dont ever remember cars during qualifications running consistent laps 1-4, or going faster on lap 2-3 without just being not trimmed at all.... the firestone tires this year definitely helped offset the heat. the penske guys did briefly mention in the post qual presser about the foyt partnership, was interesting Willy P talk about knowing since march they would be faster cause they had new push rods while everyone else is on old ones. from a fellow hoosier, good luck driving through the field next sunday!
Thanks Conor it’s going to be a hyper competitive race with so many great teams and drivers. You are the only driver providing this kind of content and so much appreciate the your depth of detail and insight. One question, Graham talked about their laser calibration could have been off and impacted their ride height. Do the cars have built in lasers to monitor the ride height. Thanks and all the best for the race.
So gutted for you can the 78 after your plenum events. Indycar also needs to reevaluate the "you have no time" thing. If someone opts to withdraw their top 30 time to run lane 1 amd they put it in the wall, the car in 31st should be able to move to 30th instead of just adding another car to LCQ.
On the broadcast it appeared you were lifting to about 80% throttle on each of your runs most corners. Not sure if this is correct or an accidental thing, but did want to point it out. Regardless, we believe in you for Sunday! Go Conor!
Ditto on getting there early. And don’t underestimate how long you’re gonna be sitting in the sun. You’re allowed to bring in your own cooler of water and snacks and stuff so take advantage of that.
@@Brian-Hansen Thanks for that. What are your thoughts on listening to broadcasts? Will I be able to stream thru earbuds connected to my phone? Or maybe a cheap little radio and headphones?
@@inglewoodwhb if you want to listen to radios and/or broadcasts the best thing is to rent a radio with a headset at the track. They come programmed with all the team’s frequencies and carry the Radio broadcast. Also, inside the track the PA is quite informative and normally there is a monitor you can see from most seating positions.
@@inglewoodwhb The PA is great, if you want to listen via headphones, use a scanner and listen to the broadcast "clean feed", 454.000 maybe. That gets you the IMS Radio network, which is superb coverage. But, you need a good headset, or good In-Ears and wear hearing protection ear muffs over the top. I like to listen to the PA mostly, but occasionally I wear my In-Ears and muffs over the top. Good luck
I think there's going to be a lot of comers and goers in this race. Some of the Hondas on race trim will be worlds better than their qualifying runs. You have to imagine Palou and Dixon for Ginassi will move forward on both talent and experience plus strategy. RHR and Helio are starting toward the back, and they'll methodically move forward if the car under them is decent. Anyone in a Chevy certainly has the power to compete. The biggest thing is how will the first timers handle the traffic, and pitting. Larson is awesome in anything he drives, and is an intelligent driver. But even with a great starting spot in row two he will not be immune to the dirty air. You think Ferrucci, Veekay, or Sato are going to waste any time trying to move up? Not a chance. Also, how do the teams actually measure ride height? Is it still old school with a caliper? Once again thanks Connor for giving a two pronged perspective as a driver and a fan.
Genuine question: Is it possible to have engines with higher torque and HP without committing rule infringement? Example: The performance of Honda engine at Sato VS. all other RLLs were so different (but the setup were so similar)
It is absolutely possible. Think of how many materials are in an engine that have to flex, the amount of material that in theory is exactly the same but could be slightly stronger than another? They margins are so small now days and in recent years I have really not seen a massive difference between engines but I have definitely seen a few throughout my career that are pretty obvious. This will always be the case
Curious, Conor - why did you push the car back out at the end and not pull your time to run again if you knew the cause of the 2nd run issue? Seemed like you could have done what Rinus did to get a higher quali spot with little risk of dropping into that last row.
because we could not trust that the same problem wouldnt happen again. It was a tough gamble. Knew we had the speed but if the same exact issue happened, then it would have been not worth it. Chevy basically couldnt promise us that the problem could be fixed and we didnt have time to change gears to single speed a run potentially
