RACER's Marshall Pruett examines IndyCar's brand-new rain vanes which are designed to prevent an issue that arose in 2022.
RACER's IndyCar Trackside Report at Barber Motorsports Park is presented by ‪@SkipBarberRacing‬. With multiple locations in the US, Skip Barber Racing School has developed more winning racers than any other school. Their alumni have taken the podium in all facets of motorsports including NASCAR, INDYCAR, SCCA, World Challenge and IMSA. In fact, more than 1/3rd of the starting lineup in the 2022 Indy 500 were Skip Barber graduates. Click to learn more: bit.ly/T623-SBRS

Looking forward to seeing these in action 🤞🏼

I'd be curious as to what the aerodynamic effects of these pieces are, and how much that will affect the data that the teams already have. Also I'm curious what they are made of. The video seems to suggest that they are a bit too flimsy to be carbon fiber.

Can we see the videos form the testing?

Neat, so I presume in later iterations we will likely see the front have those molded in, instead of being bolt on affairs?

Probably when there's a new chassis, which seems like it'll never happen lol

Perhaps they'll have different front sections with these already fitted and integrated to the part. All these extra winglets/vanes could affect the aerodynamics of the car, adding drag instead. But in the case of the driver seeing nothing in the rain to have these those rain vanes will be fitted because if nothing else, driver safety.

It shouldn’t rain down here today, I was at the track Saturday,live 25 minutes away,weather is beautiful in Alabama for race day.

I’m not an aerodynamicist… but directing air away from the aeroscreen, over the top of sidepods, & towards the rear of the car surely must increase the aero-stability.

Why not use clear plastic 🤔

Might not be strong enough, and the drivers might not even see the strips from the cockpit, and from a very shallow angle anyway. Transparent might help for the sponsor stickers, a bit.

Interesting! I just realised I haven't seen a IndyCar up close like this before. Those right angle areas right in front of the aero screen with the air intakes which I guess is to ventilate the cockpit to avoid having the driver being cooked during a session. But wouldn't those right angle areas as well contribute to turbulent air in front of the aero screen?

They may get their first real life test this weekend.

I wonder how long it will be before the teams exploit these into adjustable aero pieces to gain advantage during the rain race weekends

So clever, give them a problem and they'll solve it, brilliant.

Or Build a Wing in the Front that push the Rain and Wind ( Considering how low the cars sets ) in a Bubble up over the Car !

Who has to drain the rain vane?

Nice, but why not make them out of a clear material?

I’m guessing it must be neutral on the entire car, unless a team discovers a weird setup hit, and then that race team will be calling that rain 200 miles away night hit the track and they’re running it in the desert

If it rains They should Just yellow flag it or red Flag it till it stops
@jms5198
@jms5198 Год назад
Why tho? For oval races yea they will red flag it til the rain stops but all racing events on road/street circuits will continue in reasonable rain conditions so why would indycar be the only one to stop a race because of some rain?
