Thanks! Yeah so far it has been my favorite, nice work! Though at a higher price point, the Advent X will be tested soon as well. I was going to order from QBP the other day and it sold out super quick so I think you guys have another winner with that one! Take care
@@potatothing3240 I had to purchase the shifter, cassette, and derailleur all from different websites. Look around and you can piece your set together. This was just three days ago.
I installed the Advent 9spd group, on my hardtail and my full sush. Have always been a Shimano xt guy, until now. This microshift advent system is outstanding! In use for over 1 year, no problems, smooth shifting, no maintenance, no complaints. It's performance is much higher than the price might indicate. I enjoyed and appreciated your video. You seem to always put out some good stuff!
Hey thanks for the comment and insight! Nice you have it on both especially coming from XT. Glad to hear no problems so far. Yeah I have a feeling I’ll be installing it on more bikes soon, we will see how the other 2 perform. Thanks again and take care
Microshift Advent is a great 1x9 system. Great value and really decent build quality. and this is from someone who runs a 1x11 Shimano SLX for my 1x - - Built a 1x9 for a friend's bike and it works really great; at a fraction of what I spent. Would highly recommend.
Hey thanks for that. Ha, who knows, but for now it has been fun when I can find the time and make some videos on things that may be able to help others. Appreciate the support and take care
I just binge watched all your past videos to keep myself sane during quarantine. Great channel, keep up the good work building bikes and saving turtles!
Keep up the videos my man. This is helping out a lot of people that are newer to MB and that don't have a lot of knowledge. I like watching the "MILLION" dollar bike videos but I like the down to earth videos that teach you stuff. Keep up the videos.
Haha, I come across a lot of critters these days (mostly snakes lately) but always enjoy saying hello to the turtles! Take care and thanks for the support!
I've been using the Advent since January 2020. It has been flawless the entire time and has survived some decent impacts without issue. I did lose the clutch switch cover in one of those crashes so its a bare metal post but still functions as it should. Quality drive train at a great price. I have a bike build coming up and it'll have the Microshift Advent X going on it most likely. If not, it'll be the Advent 9 spd.
Nice! Thanks for your comment and glad to hear that it has survived some impacts. Advent X looks sweet and put one on a build but never had a chance to properly ride with it since we sold the bike soon after. Advent X is also super hard to source right now from our distributor. Thanks again and take care
Hey thanks! Oh cool, yeah I’ve seen some people doing some reviews on that bike, I haven’t had much time lately to investigate it bit it looks cool. Yeah if it has a freehub than it should work, freewheel than no go without a new hub or wheel.
Biking Roots Yeah that bike is really cool. It comes with an 8 speed cassette I hope is the normal free hub. He is going to change the breaks too. Man still deciding for the dropper post but it will come. Thanks for your videos I can’t wait for the coming ones.
@@junboo8730 I have an Axum and a week or so ago I put this microshift drivetrain on it, went right on with no issues. The stock chainring is a decent enough narrow wide for the job too
Just install the Microshift Advent X on steel mountain bike frame and looking forward to riding with it. The only thing is I'll have to get used to the shifter with the push push shifting different than the Shimano
I have a company renting out E-Mtb's. This groupset looks like gold for that purpose. The 9-speed chains are very cheap and relatively strong (thicker) It has plenty of range i could do with less with E-Mtb's. And most important the clutch, Deore 9 speed that is one them now doesn't have a clutch. Which means the chain can quiet easily drop off at the front. I will be sure to try to contact one of their reps. Seems like a very good option indeed.
Now Microshift Acolyte will work perfectly with Shimano and Microshift 9-11 speed shifters. No need to pay extra for the rear derailleur. Acolyte is just 15g heavier than Advent. Acolyte will run with 11-48T cassettes.
Really? You’ve tried it? I have not and didn’t think the pull ratio was the same. Also, I didn’t think the cage on acolyte or advent could go past 46t.
Great video, man. I’ve been really considering the advent or the AdventX for my bobcat trail 3, but i’d would also a need the cranks as well. The only issue is that theey are not available in my country so I have to ship it. I’m looking forward to see those others drivetrains for more cheap but awsome options.
Thanks for the comment and sorry the parts are harder to find in your country. Since the video, Microshift also has an Acolyte option which is less than the Advent series but works well. Also, shimano has some affordable options as well that sometimes can get in that price range (if you can find them of course). Good luck with the search
Depends where you live. For me, I’m not super fast so 11T low cog is fine with a 32 or 30T up front. As far as you low speed big cog, depends on your leg strength! When I was in Utah last fall, my 50T didn’t seem enough for some of those climbs! Around Houston, we rarely get out of 36T since we have short small climbs. 42 is plenty but they also have a 46T option with the advent now if you need more range. Also past that they have a 48T but only in the Advent X I believe
I have an old 1999 Yeti ARC XTR, trying to decide if it is worth upgrading the drivetrain to a 1x, a new suspension fork and a disc brakes (which I think would need new disc compatible wheels too?) or just buy a new bike. The bike has already been modified by me when I was younger so I am not worried about keeping the original specs of the bike. Still has all of the original 1999 XTR components but I swapped the fork for a rigid fork a while ago which I do not like.
Thanks for sharing. Hmm, I would say if you have an emotional attachment to the bike and just want to modernize it and don’t mind putting money into it that probably won’t come back when you sell it, then I would say go for it. Does it not have disc brakes now? If it doesn’t, then you may not be able to depending on the frame mounts. If you are talking a 1x conversion, new fork, brakes, etc that will transform the bike but also cost a good amount and parts are hard to find right now. A lot has changed in the biking world since 99 though and you cannot change the old school geometry and wheel size of the bike. I’d probably lean towards saving your money and using it towards an newer hardtail with an air fork or a full suspension bike if budget allows. Good luck
Did you get the trigger or the pro shifter? If you were to place it X7 and below or x9 and up where would the shifter fall in terms of actuation? The box shifters are super stiff!
How about a sensah drivetrain. And can you do an episode on grips and another on saddles, would like to see wtb , ergon, specialized , terry and bike planet saddles. thanks
Steve at Hardtail Party swears by MicroShift. How does it compare to SRAM GX groupset? I know one is 10s and the other is eagle but how does the build quality, shift performance, and durability compare?
Thanks for the comment and question. My opinion would be that Advent X is more of an NX comparison based on the shift performance and quality. Not that the Advent X isn’t good but I just think they are in a different category (and price does reflect that). I can’t comment on long term Advent X since I just haven’t ridden one with it long enough to see but have heard good things. One thing I will note is that Eagle (or Shimano 12 speed) is great when it is setup properly but as soon as it stretches or you crash, it is very easily upset and your shifts go to garbage. This is due to the fact that there just isn’t much room for error in the spacing for a 12 speed. A little bit of movement can get it upset. I’d argue a 10 speed drivetrain is more forgiving and can handle more of a misalignment. So tough decision. Both good options, just weigh the pros and cons. Good luck!
Thanks for the comment and question. For now just use a gopro hero 7 black for POV riding footage (with special mount to a roost guard and external power bank) and a hero 8 black for vlogging (sometimes hooked to power bank too since gopros suck with battery life! Not perfect by any means but they work for now
These were some inexpensive WTB wheels I got on Amazon before I opened my shop. They were like $130 for a set if I remember right. Don’t see them on there anymore unfortunately. They aren’t bad but not great either. Price was what I was more concerned about with these and I think they even came with some cheap tires.
I have a trek Marlin 7 (2020) and im interested in going to a 1x9. can you recommend a crankset that would be, compatible with the advent 9 and allow me to try an oval chain ring up front?
Hmm I think you have a square tapered bottom bracket so the cheapest and probably simplest option would be either a suntour xcm-t (then remove the rings) and install your 104bcd oval or round chainring. Also the sunrace fc-m80u has a chain ring with it that I think you could remove. Either one you are probably between $50-60
Look into FSA cranks - the crank and their external bottom brackets are inexpensive and a great upgrade if you are still running an internal square-taper bottom bracket.
My first Mtb Had this driveterrian and the derailleur after some time acts up and the jockey wheels get bad Quickley. Also the cassette is to little since I live in the bay area
Thanks. Uh oh... hmm hopefully it was an isolated problem. Yeah depending on where you live, you may need more range. The Advent X had 48t so that could be better for those in the steeper parts of the country
Hopefully you can him me out. I have 2x10 36x24 xt drivetrain on my full suspension. What would be the best setup for a 1x10? So can make it much more efficient climbing Thanks.
Thanks for the question. Microshift does have a 10 speed option now as well if you wanted to go that route. Up front you can probably remove the crank ring bolts since it is an XT then buy a raceface 32t or 30t ring or a generic brand as well. If you currently have a 10 speed system now you could keep the shifter and then upgrade the rear cassette to a 42t or 46t (shimano or sunrace could work) with an xt derailleur or something less expensive from Shimano with a clutch (slx, deore).
@@BikingRoots My bike is only 4 months old. So pretty much all the xt drivetrain is new. It is a 10 speed. I appreciate the help. 32 tooth 1x and 42 cassette.
Just bought this on special offer from kids racing Ltd in the uk. Arrived in a couple of days - fitting to my retro gravel/mtb/thing once a few more parts arrive for the rebuild. Feels good quality stuff and the shop service has been excellent.
The bikes I had as a kid didn't have different gears but I just got a new bike that has the microSHIFT Advent, 9-Speed shifters and I'm so confused. I just need someone to explain what the two levers do
The trigger or the button your pointer finger touches goes up in gear towards 9 (makes you go faster) by loosening the cable to allow the derailleur to move towards the smallest cog on the cassette. The thumb button tightens the cable moving the derailleur to the bigger rings making it easier to pedal
Yes it should fit fine if you have a shimano HG freehub body (which it sounds like you do). You’d need to swap out the cassette, derailleur, shifter, and chain. Good luck!
I have this deraileur and have snapped 5 cables in 2 months at the rear deraileur. They rub while shifting fray and then snap there. Anyone experienced this with this deraileur? Suggestions?
I wish there was some budget 10, 9 or 8 speed cassettes for XD drivers with the smallest cog starting at 9 or 10 teeth.... If anybody knows one, please let me know :) ( I cant fit a bigger ring in the front)
Thanks for the comment and question. Yeah that would be nice. I don’t know of any budget ones. ethirteen I know as some 11 and 12 speed XD cassettes that are 9-46 and bigger but they are very light and not cheap. If I find any options I’ll let you know
