Kinda interesting, but this island in real life actually had a bio weapons testing facility and is a complete wasteland now. The Southern Aral Sea is completely uninhabitable and the North has only recently been restored.
I just thought about that for the first time while watching this. So much of this game was based on real events, and it never even crossed my mind if the island was real until now.
Honestly I just like to think Hudson in BO2 is like some different guy and BO1 Hudson is off doing a mission or died doing something badass prior to the events of BO2. This just helps preserve his coolness for me.
I love the subtle hints in gameplay that Reznov isn’t there, Mason does almost everything, also when you kill the second guard, he has a single gun, yet both Mason and Reznov get one...
Even better proof is when you would shoot woods or someone it would display the “friendly fire will not be tolerated” sign. But when you shot reznov no such thing would appear
Another red flag that appears throughout the entire campaign is that no one talks to Reznov by name anytime he's just in Mason's head. A point the game relentlessly beats into the ground.
@@kidsIIIII009 Yes that one poor boy too... and perhaps others such as Link, Zelda, Mario, Jimmy Patterson, Carl "CJ" Johnson, and more..... just imagine if the were toxicated with that gas...that would be horrific....
Hauptmann Sturm bullet proof glass is Prone to attacks or hits with blunt force objects, a bat probably couldn’t have broken that glass and even that box had pretty decent time getting through
Usually it depends on the hardness of the container or the bullets vs the glass itself. Thats why a lot of glass breaking tools are made of diamonds, since they are the hardest material in existence.
Black Ops 1 was probably the best campaign “difficulty-wise” the game got progressively harder, and the final 2 missions “Rebirth” and “Redemption” was where the difficulty really started to kick off, especially on “Rebirth” where during the Nova 6 cloud sequence, many things were added and changed: - Your vision is shorter, making infrared scopes being important to use in the combat - Your hazmat suit acts as a extra layer for your health, except that it never regenerates, and if that extra layer depletes, you will instantly die, no matter how full your base health is. And It will be damaged if you get shot around your face region. - Because your hazmat suit never regenerates, it makes the user become more strategic with their combat if they want to survive, and being extra careful against gunfire. Although “Redemption ” isn’t as hard as “Rebirth”. “Redemption” still has some difficulty spikes to match with “Rebirth” but my point here is, Call of Duty Black Ops 1 was probably the best game when it came to difficulty progression. Games like Black Ops 2, although it does get harder as you progress, but the difficulty it spikes up to, is nothing compared to Black Ops 1, like this comment if you agree!!
I'm not a big fan of the hazmat gimmick. Not because its there, it's not consistent. You can see it in the video, right after they've restarted, they immediately got their mask cracked critically in just one short firefight indoors. I rather they apply it on all hits with a bigger buffer than let it all take 4 lucky hits. There's no way to dodge hit scan and peeking from cover makes you even vulnerable to getting the suit ruptured. Easily an infuriating section of the campaign.
@@thetrashman5258 You would have to kill them before their firing animation starts. Or even thrown a grenade at an angle so that way it would kill them without a direct line of sight.
@@killertruth186 all I do was to find haystacks with small holes where the Enfield can get its sight on and aim for their heads, doing it with a controller was crap since you have to push the stick while aiming for a steadier aim
I knew something was wrong with reznov Ever since he rejoin mason, he the only friendly ai that doesn't trigger the "friendly fire will not be tolerated"
Also there were subtle hints in dialogue. “Mason what the fuck are you doing” Frank woods- shortly after they rescue the POWs “What the fuck is wrong with you” Swift- when him and Alex mason are in the tunnels. Both instances reznov appeared and to them it seemed like Alex was talking to himself
The fact that I could melee Reznov as a friendly shocked me because I was waiting for the "Friendly Fire will not be tolerated" Screen. But the fact that friendly fire wouldn't work as he was in his head the whole time made so much sense.
For how incredibly fictional this whole plot was, its pretty amazing that we may have had a lot of wetwork and black ops type missions n the height of the Cold War. If you go to Washington DC, they do have the international spy museum with a big emphasis on the Cold War. The whole Project MK-Ultra thing is wild especially when you look into what the CIA did and the Soviets actually dropped 1 Billion Dollars on their own mind control programs. Absolutely wild.
Who knows what we dont know, there are probably even real gunfights that occurred between Americans and Soviets that both sides agreed to cover up to avoid escalation
@@kylephilipe8347 The proxy wars between both the U.S. and Soviets could count too, like El Salvador for example, they did alot of damage behind the scenes too
110% there were skirmishes between SEALS and Spetznaz because many American units have reported seeing "European men" in different camo uniforms in combat and there was a secret mission where they destroyed our first batch of Cobra helicopters. Russia admitted to sending its Pilots and that Advisors manned the AA sites but Vets are also coming out now saying they want recognition for their fallen comrades in Vietnam since its been over 40 years and theres no USSR
The gas part of this level traumatized me as a kid, the scene of the Private's face melting and him gasping for air and reaching towards Hudson filled my nightmares and for years I feared chemical attacks. I'm fully aware now that a chemical attack is extremely unlikely but my poor 5 year old self didn't. Whenever I play a level that has something to do with gassing, whether it'd be Petrenko or Kane being locked in a room or a chemical attack on London in MW3 or MW Remastered I still find it unnerving and terrifying.
I dont wanna ruin your parade but he was reaching to Hudson not Mason Small edit: and yea i also had nightmares from the privates face melting and him reaching to Hudson
The poor lad got blinded from the attack helicopter missile barrages, he was shocked from it that he didn’t feel a thing, but he also didn’t realize about the nova 6 being deployed where he was standing. He didn’t have time to put on his hazmat mask from the shock. Which explains that he had his face torn up before he inhaled gas and died a horrible death. The dude was a goner...11:54
@@LowerH250 in black ops 3 nightmares apparently they mixed NOVA-6 with 115 to make a mind control serum. But we all know where that went. Industrial catastrophe and all that.
@@sparkthefloofyprotogen3556 So in Nightmares mode, the 115 asteroid fell to Earth and a group mixed it with Nova-6, starting the zombies. This is without all the crazy supernatural Keepers and shit?
I never took into account that the names of the last three mission levels in Black Ops are basically telling everyone the character arc for Mason's journey. "Rebirth" sees Mason finally being broken from his brainwashing, being 'reborn'. "Revelations" reveals to him the truth about what happened to him and what he did during this process. "Redemption" is Mason redeeming himself by fixing the consequences for all his actions.
That’s a pretty cool idea, especially the last two, but personally I think “Rebirth” refers to Reznov being “reborn” inside Mason, at least to execute Steiner himself for what he did to Dimitri and his other comrades
In Masons head: him and Reznov fought there way to kill stiener. In Reality: Mason single handedly fought his way to kill steiner. (Alex Mason is a Legend!)
The only CIA assets are Weaver and Hudson, the rest are marines in NBC gear. CDC aren't soldiers and CIA have field agents or advisors; no enlisted, non-comms, or commisioned officers that's what the military's for.
@@inkaros1288 actually how people who are fatally shot usually end up on the ground, their body just shuts down so they just fall where they are and gravity claims them lmao
This may sound cheesy, but this game made me interested in history because as a kid I had no ideas where any of these locations were and it make me love cold war history so much it's what I specialised in for my final school history essay
Are you from the UK at all? I swear this mission was never a thing, I just remember Steiner getting shot too.. I played this campaign so much as a kid since I never had internet. This is driving me crazy.
Damn it Mason this wasn't the plan! (Anyway in reality if this happend in real life we would have been in ww3 let alone chernobyl mk reactore would explode early)
This mission was borderline impossible on Veteran difficulty. So easy to die when you where manning the machine gun, and the poor visibility while wading through Nova 6 in your Hazmat suit made it difficult to spot enemies even when using the thermal scope. Sometimes you just end up looking at a wall or some random post because you don't know any better, and random fires scattered about were highly distracting. Meanwhile the enemy soldiers continue to have pinpoint 360 no-scope accuracy as soon as you rounded a corner. Almost as bad as WaW grenade spamming on high difficulty campaign.
Fun fact: There's a nightmare universe where the Nova 6 collided with Richtofen's 115. The zombie menu is actually the nightmare universe. Also, there's BOZ custom map based on that universe called ."Kowloon." Edit: Pls pin pops
“Your evil has claimed the lives of many good men.” “No longer.” “Killing me.. will not stop Nova.” “I DO NOT CARE ABOUT NOVA.” “MY NAME. IS VIKTOR. REZNOV. AND I. WILL HAVE. MY. REVENGE.” Edit: Am I the only one that absolutely LOOOOVES how eerie and perfect the music in the contaminated neighborhood was and fit? BO1 has some of, if not all, of the best soundtracks.
12:00 pvt. Fulsang had the most horrible death imaginable if you look at his eyes they’re absolutely wasted from the helicopter attack before the nova 6 was released and he was blinded so he didn’t know that the gas was coming you can just hear him shouting for help but it was all in vain, he died a horrific death. Rip Private Fulsang
It wouldn't be so bad if the damage intake was consistent. The cracks only occur when you receive headshot damage. Meaning you can either tank for days from stray bullets afar or the cracks can grow suddenly from a few lucky hits while taking it close and indoors. The IR scoped Enfield was a godsend here.
I knew something was wrong with reznov after vorkuta because in vorkuta you cant shoot reznov with the pistol because he was "alive" but in later missions you can shoot reznoz ( without killing him) because hes not really there which is kinda cool
Vladimir Dudka lol I know Boris Kievsky voices them it’s the same actor for dimitri in project nova (my fav cod character) I think Boris says he’s not Russian he’s like Jewish or something he voices Russians in the cod series
i hate how theyre trying so hard to retcon new black ops characters into the main story like making us think adler was in the black ops 1 storyline the entire time
Well. Adler was pretty much in Black Ops 1 when you think about it but he wasn’t shown because he wasn’t an idea back then during Black Ops 1 development.
@@burgurz474 I mean he's a cool character I like him just a bit of lazy writing is all I'm saying. We can say he was here during the raid on rebirth but he was just another operator not a major player yet.
Man... It's been a long time since I played this mission. It's not really my favourite tho but I did manage to get a achievement in Xbox 360 through the campaign with no leaks which is the hardest so far I got.
I wish they still made games this good. The story and plot twist was well thought of also since the story was connected to another CoDs story.Good memories man, good memories.
I don't know why but this mission was the hardest on veteran in BO1, I passed the others with not much problems but when you're playing as Hudson while on the armored vehicle you have no cover so it's easy to get killed also the MG overheats quickly.
Am I the only one who remembers the cod's like this, the good ones not the pile of shite we get now, only had a goodish game last year but all the ones before were shite
Another thing that indicates that Reznov is only in the Mason's head. When Mason kills a soldier (3:45), he takes his weapon, and at the same moment, the weapon also appears to Reznov.
