He knew that he couldn’t get out alone so he sabotaged the brainwashing to make sure that his ultimate goal was accomplished by Mason (Killing Dragovich Kravchenko and Steiner). Reznov is a genius
3:37 Chilling when you finally realize that Mason was most likely working with Oswald as sleeper agents to kill JFK which is why he says that Oswald has been compromised. Most likely Alex was the second shooter but Oswald was the one who got caught. And the reason why Alex didn’t even know he did it was because Hudson said that for a small period of time Mason went dark. So probably during that time his programming kicked in and he was like a machine following it’s orders without question
I just finished the game, but i doubt he is the second shooter, but probably the guy who command the real second shooter, because in the photo he dressed like some intel or president’s bodyguard.
@@gredinainggolan4010 I see where you’re coming from but remember, dragovich basically told Mason that he did when he said “tried?” in a very sarcastic tone with a smile on his face
snek lol are you saying IW, AW, and bo3 campaigns are better than mw1 ,mw2,mw3, cod waw, bo1 and bo2? The new ones are definitely not better.... i have played them and it was boring as shit except for ghosts
Fer DLC Yes im saying AW, IW, and BO3 are WAY fucking better. You are a complete dumbass if you think otherwise. The new ones get you abilities, better loadouts, character customization, gameplay is more fun, and the graphics are improved dramatically not to mention we got Kevin Spacey and that dude from game of thrones and christopher meloni as our villians in the 3. Mdw series is shit and boring no "Remaster" can change that trust me. They are shit, period. The black ops series outdid them. Infinity Ward sucks arab ballsack. The MDW series is gross and boring.
yup, you're a fucking moron. Just because i have a different opinion than you i'm a dumbass? you don't know me fool, determining my intelligence over the fact that i like certain games makes you the dumbass. What have you accomplished in your life that makes you any more smarter than me? I bet absolutely nothing. Get the fuck out of here you're a fucking joke
Honestly, I always get that CSI: Miami vibe whenever I see Hudson putting on those shades, all we need is that "YEEEEAAAAAA!" sound when he does it and viola!
6:34 fucking love how Hudson’s voice goes more raspier and deeper all at once. Actor really tried to sell us a situation where he wants to drive home the the truth about Reznov. Legendary
“He is unusual , atypical , few men possess such will.” What a statement and it is very true Mason is one of the most special and resilient protagonists I have ever seen
It also clues in that Mason had been able to be resilient whilst given orders and torture from Dragovich, due to his imprisonment with Reznov and being constantly ingrained with orders from Dragovich
Therefore his mind/brain created a point of resistance and support for his will. It took the form of a Reznov figure. A kind of imaginary supportive friend. The whole Soviet Campain in WaW is Mason's fixation.
To be fair, it’s him finally making sense of the numbers and breaking through his mind control/brainwashing. So it basically caused him a mental breakdown as his brainwashing was conflicting with Reznov’s sabotage, and his will to break through his brainwashing.
Hudson was so much better in BO1 Edit 2 years later: Well shit, a 5k liked comment that I literally don't even remember writing, but still agree with anyways.
I love how cod epically mixed real history with the treyarc twist consisting of sleeper agents and plot twists and a ending that leaves the players with the idea of that on conspiracy theory that there were two shooters in the JFK assassination. An absolute masterpiece
The feels when Reznov said to Mason: "We are brothers, Mason... We are the same." Sure Reznov used Mason to kill the three bad guys, but you can't deny that the two would of been unstoppable if Reznov survived.
Reznov used Mason for a good reason, those 3 planned to unleash a deadly gas attack all over the U.S and without Reznov sabotaging the brainwashing at Vorkuta who knows what happens, maybe the CIA captures Steiner at Rebirth Island without Mason killing him but we’ll never know for sure.
@@maxoconnor5087 "the flag maybe different but the method is the same" - Reznov I think Reznov want to kill Steiner to make sure no one get the Nova-6, neither the US or the USSR
World at War- the one that started it all Black Ops- Perfect Black Ops Cold War- Similar story to Black Ops 1 but still great BO2: Great BO3: Train Go Boom BO4: You know what’s a campaign is?
"Proceed...To...Target" "Oswald....Comprised!" Mason Killed JFK This is even proven (kinda), in the final mission Mason: "You tried to make me kill my own president!" Dragovich: "Tried?!" So yeah, R.i.P JFK
Jayden Yen No it's only implied. The fact that Steiner states that his response to orders is sporadic tells us that it is only a possibility that Mason killed him, not a complete certainty.
Banzai Boy After the final mission, they show Kennedy in his Lincoln on the day of his assassination, and they pause on a moment where you can see Mason in the crowd. I think he still had something to do with it.
T Bush He did. However, Steiner saying that Mason's response to orders has been "sporadic" leaves the question open. He certainly went through the plan because he was in Dallas, but we don't know if he actually pulled a trigger or if he was able to briefly break free of the programming.
It's just implied. They never confirmed that he did indeed kill JFK. In BO2, McKnight asks Mason about and he replies that they gave it their best shot. He may have been involved in it but there's no direct answer.
they alluded that your character (Mason) was the assassin that shot JFK, remember how Hudson mentions there were many times Mason went "dark" and they couldnt track who and what he did when he was brainwashed
Yea I was supper happy when they brought in good old John F Kennedy. He’s a bit old but he managed to recreate his younger voice really well. That may be the first time a ex president voiced someone in a videogame
“We have to get to the bunker! We’re at DEFCON 2...you’ve tried everything....” I think this line is more terrifying than people realise...particularly I’m sure for those who grew up in the Cold War. Man there was so much tension in this game.
@@zaer-ezart It goes from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 1, 5 means the U.S army are chilling and 1 means they're ready for an immediate nuclear war with soldiers everywhere in the country.
This is when COD was good not because it was set in the past, not because you weren't a cyborg, it was because they actually gave a shit about they're games
This CoD, imo is the best CoD after WaW and CoD 4. This game full of classic cold war tension between USA and USSR, brainwashing, sleeper agents, everything you expected from cold war.
I don't think anybody has asked this, but where the fuck did weaver go, he was one of the characters involved in a couple of missions, besides I don't know why but he is my favourite B01 character.
Rumor has it, he died during Operation Charybdis. Look it up, it was an operation you can read about in one of the intel files, at some point in the 70's, Ryan Jackson believed Mason was a threat to National Security and put an assassination order on him, Hudson, and Weaver, and kept it Top Secret, since Hudson was well-liked in the CIA. They never officially had shown what happened during that Operation, but since Weaver didn't appear in Black Ops 2, its possible he was killed. Also made a reference to his sister being an agent with the KGB, and was under orders to seduce Mason. Might have been David's mother, but who knows?
Mason did take part in the Assassination. Mason defies his numbers orders, but whenever his object is near, he does follow suit. That’s why he had the vision in the pentagon. He was there in 1963 but for what purpose? He just got his orders to deal with one of the worst men in the world from JFK himself. He wouldn’t be in Texas, he’s be planning with Hudson to take out the real bad guy. Mason would have never said the word ‘compromised’ if he wasn’t apart of the hit. There would have been no use for the word. Lastly, Hudson says he has gaps in his memory while he was MIA. Even Hudson didn’t know where Mason was during certain events and he was his handler. But since Hudson says that all his memories will come back since the brainwashing has been broken, that’s why he went into hiding for 30 years, realizing what he had done and to have a child to carry on his name as a normal person. His kid David Mason mentions how Alex promised to not join again. Alex knew he couldn’t join, but the news about Woods forced him to join again. Bonus: I think the climbing of the tree in BO2 was to show that Alex was teaching David some stealth to stay hidden, alluding to his son needing to be ready for what was to come if it came to it.
@@Andy_b0y12 I'm a year late here as well. But to be perfectly honest with you. They have nearly no connections. Bocw is basically its own contained story. As if tried to connect with the other two. It would have major plot holes. Thus I'd say cold war is its own side story that's completely unrelated to bo1 and 2.
@@mr.moonman5303 actually it is heavily connected, remember in Black Ops II when David says that Alex promised him he wasnt gonna re-up? I think the line was "You said you're never gonna go back to the military, you PROMISED me." This was before Mason went to find Woods, and as we know, Cold War is supposed to take place between 1 and 2, David was probably kicking around during Cold War and then Mason came back from the military and that's when we get the scene of David falling from the tree, Mason hears about Woods and then we lead into BO2
@@IMNTV That line wasn't before mason went to find woods. If i remember correctly, Alex is told that woods is still alive. And that's when David says that line. Also cold war took place in the 1980's. The problem with that is that would've been around the same time in bo2. Where they try to capture Menendez. But only accomplish getting wood's knees blown off, Hudson killed, (And technically mason as well.) That's why i say it has no real connections. As story wise, it wouldn't make any real sense for woods to have his knees again, or for dead characters to be alive again. It would be a major plot hole. Which is why I count it as it's own contained alternate story. (I could always be wrong about the dates. As I'm going off of very old memories.)
@@blvck_drxps5087 thank you. I've seen no one talking about this 😂😂 I have no clue if you still use this RU-vid account, but I literally think I've buried the experience of playing this campaign in the inner recesses of my mind for over a decade because it's so traumatic. I played it when I was like 9-10. Now I'm reliving it, and it's made sense of why I hate certain things. I have difficulty trusting people. I hate getting put under for surgeries/procedures (to be fair, I think most people struggle with that). After reliving this as an adult, I'm so upset that I subjected myself to this content at such a young age. It was truly horrifying and far too psychologically dark to experience at that age. (At least in my opinion) don't get me wrong, it's certainly a compelling story that's well written, but reliving this is genuinely stress inducing. So I'm glad I'm not alone in experiencing it too young 😂
Since Reznov was an imaginary creation of Mason's mind,it took Hudson an entire team to infiltrate the facility while Mason infiltrated all by himself and even managed to kill the scientist, that makes him a beast 😎
Yeah, driven by the monster that was Reznov's revenge. It's a shame since Reznov became no better than what Dragovich, Steiner, and Kravchenko had done to him, and he would have let the world burn just to get it, considering the kind of convictions he had in World at War.
@@BryonYoungblood well Reznov is one of war hero in cod waw but he been abandon by his own country, his squad been killed for test nova 6 project and he send to vorkuta. Of course he want revenge againts dragovic, kravchenko and steiner
Glad it's still getting attention/has a loyal fanbase ay? Man wish I could get a discreet shirt with ascension followed by the numbers in that classic red font so fans like you and me can identify each other without looking like a nerd lol.
If the player decodes the phonetic alphabet code names (X-ray, Sierra etc.) in the beginning of each level of Call of Duty: Black Ops into their first letters, changes the serial numbers into letters (A-1, B-2), and removes all the Xs, the player will get this message: "Reznov is dead, or is he dead, there was no body, is he who he says he is".
Máté Ambrus actually this is true because if you go to the PC and tyre a code (I don't remember) you can see an email from Reznov which was sent 5 years after his "death" and says how thankful he is (he says and something else but I don't remember)
ilias tredi boy He says a lot of quotes that Reznov has said like "Victory cannot be achieved without Sacrifice" and "A Single Step". Then he says in a message to Hudson, "tell Mason one thing, this time it's freedom for both of us". So, Reznov most likely didn't die in Vorkuta. In this messages, he was the one who told Mason about the breakout when there really wasn't anyone else who could've told him that unless they were there which had to be Reznov.
The psychological effects this story has on me is something no other story can compare to. The story and all the things that Mason experiences just scared the shit out of me.
Same. Man I played this game when I was little and it legit scared me. Getting lost in your own mind and questioning what’s real and what’s not is one of the most horrifying things a person can experience.
I just realized that at 0:20 there's a frame where Reznov becomes a skeleton, possibly foreshadowing that he was already dead way before we are told he didn't make it past Vorkuta. Really interesting detail.
Hawkmoon Slaya the way he says "the pain oh my god" was brutal. It makes it seem like he's actually getting tortured and in horrific amounts of pain. It makes it sound so real. Masons actor was fucking amazing.
TheMarvel Joe it gives me chills whenever it shows mason saying "my name is Victor Reznov and I will have my revenge!" I was so shocked the first time this revealed
TheMarvel Joe it’s crazy because u see him alive and his prime in waw with him and Dimitri but in black ops he shined bright for another part of him but most of that were hallucinations of him like in dead space with Isaac and Nicole for example the same relation with mason and reznov
Realistically his fate is unknown. Emails on the terminal in BO1 hint he survived and took the alias John Trent. The only thing that is certain is that him and Mason did not interact since Vorkuta.
@@nuclear_war_games The computer behind the chair you're in in the main menu. It lets you read emails between characters, unlock zombies maps, hell you can even play Zork.
Not necessarily. Already in WaW you can see that something is wrong in Soviet Campain - just like Tiger II in Stalingrad street. Although this is a twist, it perfectly explains that Reznov and Petrenko's ''adventures'' in WaW are simply Mason's fantasy - a mix of brainwashing and what he knew about the Second World War.
It’s lowkey sad to hear Mason crying out to Reznov hoping he is still out there. He really believed Reznov had escaped and still fought by his side to help stop project nova. Once Hudson tells him the truth about what happened in vorkuta when mason is at gun point. When mason finally comes to his senses he says “I trusted him” with such pain in his voice too. Imagine you thinking you escaped from some crazy work prison camp with your friend, who you split up with during the escape. Thinking he is still alive just to have them actually be dead for years. It would be heartbreaking to know what you saw wasn’t them.
@Roniixx but menendez thought that mason was dead. Cordis die was launched due to the failure of Karma (the system analyst girl). If was dead, mason was alive, but menendez was alive then cordis die was launched. Keeping mason alive was the optional to prevent cordis die. You just need to stop menendez.
@@zgama6511 he was forced because menendez is gonna kill mason's son, david. He even sacrificed himself so woods and david would survive. And he literally helped mason achieve victory throughout the black ops 1 campaign, how could you hate him at this point?
Yes except they used LSD which is much less interesting and dangerous than Nova 6 or brainwashing machines/surgery (I forget exactly how they brainwashed Mason)
I always love this call of duty due to the supernatural like nature of it, it wasn’t just action, there was story, twists, characters that felt like brothers in arms, there are so many more words for this.
There was so much going on with this campaign. The story was sinister and complex, and the characters had depth to them. The whole thing was just so dramatic and cool. To think that Black Ops 4 isn't even going to HAVE a single player campaign is fucking sad.
I know this comment is over a year old, but damn. It is true. It didn't help either that BO III completely chucked whatever potential it had for a good story out the window. All that remains of even the slightest hints of the past I've found were the Nova 6 gas and Menendez.
