Infiltrators and Incursors in Warhammer 40K 10th Edition - Primaris Space Marines Unit Review 

I gotta lotta respect for Phobos armour. Gives you a bit of that “My army has a unified theme, but that dousnt mean they all have to wear the exact same jersey” Nothing wrong with a very homongenous army, clearly given popularity of space marines, but it’s nice to have that option. Nice to look at your army on the tabletop and it be obvious from just their appearance without looking at a data sheet what their role is.

These guys pair really well with armour. Tag a enemy with a single successful hit. Now your gladiators and dreads are all hitting on 2s

Not gonna lie the phobos armor guy in the leviathan box is what made me want to play space marines. The phobos armor just looks Sick!

Incursors with the phobos librarian is a serious power move in my experience. Not being able to deal with a massive army buffing unit unless you get within melee range can be incredibly frustrating. Its also very helpful on your non oath target. Makes the damage output that much better if you can nuke your oat target early

The Phobos armor units make for a thematic, totally 100% loyal Alpha Legion force

The phobos librarian infiltrators combo is the single best counter Space Marines have into factions like GSC, Space Marines, and demons. Cant be targeted and cant be deepstriked next to for easy clear. Probably the best action monkey squad/back line screen in the index that will be left after the unit purge.

I think they'll be really good bait with the invictus tactical warsuit backing them. The enemy might become frustrated that they can't deep strike where they want to and be tempted to move in on them. At which point you could fire overwatch (for free with an attached captain), then once the enemy has shot them, the invictor tactical warsuit gets to return fire for free. This would make it difficult for regular infantry to get rid of the problem you present. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm gunna give it a go soon.

The 12" bubble from the infiltrator squad is annoying af as a Grey Knights player, my main matchup vs a friend he usually takes 2x squad of 5 and just shuts down large swathes for redeployment and GK shooting is too feeble to remove them efficiently. The librarian in phobos armor then also adds psychic fnp 4+ (all GK melee) on top of 12" shooting limitation so even if you deepstrike near them to charge a turn later, you still cant shoot that first turn since you must be >12" away when you come down lol.

Surprised you didn't mention the Invictor Tactical Warsuit, its ability is a synergy with phobos troops that is at least as usable as the character options are IMHO.

for the deathwatch infiltrators are the core of spectrus kill teams which seem really fun, if you run them with a lieutenant and the purgatus tactic you can get lethal hits and precision, while also returning to strat reserves every turn if you want

My Incursors killed a Spiritseer in melee with the Haywire Mine ability. Their Multi-Spectrum Array is great for painting targets for vehicles. I run a pretty heavy vehicle list with Deathwatch, so that in combination with Furor Tactics (Sustained Hits 1) makes for incredibly potent shooting phases.

I can't get over how these boys are supposed to be all sneaky and they're in bright blue armour. Its hilarious.

Currently painting up for a heavy phobos list, bought the Raven Guard box and some extras so have two invictors, Shrike, 10 reivers, bought the kill team box and made a 5 man incursor squad and 5 man infiltrator squad, have 2 squads of Eliminators, 2 phobos librarians as well. Just want to get some jump pack units, maybe like some suppressors and inceptors, plus a phobos captain. Add in some terminators with their teleport stuff and you have a whole list of units that just do a lot of shenanigans, lots of deep striking, lone operatives, scout moves, redeployment, very fun imo. Maybe not the most meta list especially with all the armour about but potentially fun.

Honestly it seems weird that they're probably gonna release a new primaris scout squad to replace the scouts they've squatted when these guys exist. But given the crusaders squad already has primaris scouts it's hard to imagine them not releasing primaris scouts.

I run a 5x incursor squad with lieutenant. Using smoke and the shoot and move allows me troll at times. Also, that haywire mine is fun

@Auspex Tactics, due to the popularity and success of Deathwatch currently, could you do a spotlight on Deathwatch Kill Teams? Hard to determine which is most effective for different situations.

Incursors are a top tier unit. The mine, the +1 to hit, the sustained hits attacks, the scout move. 2x units of 5 does so well.

The incurors +1 to hit mixed with Vulkan He’Stan’s forgefather rule Would be nice for meltas. Hitting on 2s and re rolling wounds.

I've been having a ton of fun with my all Phobos army. You have to really embrace the tactical/guerrilla warfare vibe.

I like the idea of the phobos librarian, just a little nuisance unit going around handing out the debuff while your opponent can't deal with them as long as they keep their distance. Though do take that with a grain of salt as I don't have any of these guys yet but I plan to pick them up soon TM.

The Phobos LT actually gives the Incrursos the ability to Infiltrate. Then you just use them as a move shoot move utility unit to give +1 to hit against valuable targets. Combined with Oath of moment and support from a Storm Speeder Thunderstrike you can do some serious damage against big monster / vehicle targets. You have +1 to hit them, +1 to wound them, rerolling everything. Then you bring in your actual damage, like Redemptors, Eradicators, Ballistuses - Whatever anti tank or anti vehicle fire you have.

I love these guys, I have a 1k list that is 90% phobos with some allies.

I love the Phobos and Gravis line. Im wanting to get all the kits of them so i could create a large fun army. I got the Kill Team: Phobos box during 9th to customize my Incursor/Infiltrators, and have used both in 9th, running the Incursors as their mine was a fun cheeky tool. In 10th, the Incursor's are amazing, they arent tough, but their ability helps immensely. A +1 to the hit roll on one unit, if they hit anything. I use them to boost my army when i pick my Oath of Moment so im annihilating that one unit if its close enough. Combined with a Repulsor or Executioner variant, the enemy unit is most certainly getting killed. Infiltrators were fun to have for deepstrike, but it seems to be a what if rather than a must like the Incursors. Their wargear is okay, but i just dont want to waste 90pts on a unit that doesnt buff my army that much. Reivers (while not talked about) seem to be really fun in 10th with their forced Battle-Shock, but they either need a slight durability buff, or better melee to keep them alive so the enemy can take that Battle-Shock test.

I’m surprised you never mentioned giving the Phobos lieutenant the “bolter discipline” enchantment which gives them lethal hits on 5s and sustain hit 1 if under dev doctrine Been running it for a few games with great damage output, especially with oath of moment

Incursors could also be interesting in combination with a desolation squad, making the desolation squad hitting better in indrect fire seems quite valuable.

Incursors are great to combine with Twin linked units such as Inceptors and Astreus rather than Oath of moment targets. Also work great when opponent has something that removes 1 from your hit-roll. I love the Incursors. Very flexible and very threatening. Great when you dont have Guiliman and you can still engage 2-3 targets pr turn and get reliable damage against them. Oath of moment for the target of your terminators and Incursors to help against your other targets that turn.

I've found 3d printed fully helmeted Incursor heads. Now I can field this great unit without using infiltrator helmets (these are placed on magnets)

Somewhat on, but also off topic….. Spacemarines Vanguard ‘army’ or formation (Phobos units).I hope when the new codex comes out and if you want to run a vanguard/Phobos army, I hope they add a couple more units. The options is thin and I understand that, but I think they could use the new speeders of the Mario Cart. Vanguard list are missing reliable anti vehicle. Unless they want to add some cool strategems, but you shouldn’t rely on such a limited resource for any one type of ‘anti’ one thing or another.

Incursors really look and feel like the Primaris successors of the Tactical Squads, with a nice mixture of utility, good melee (for their price), very cool fire support options, not to mention their own 'tactical' ranged being nicely balanced between useful & fluffy. Infiltrators, in contrast to the Incursors, are in their own way a Primaris alternative to Scouts, given their price and main focus on utility and more of an annoyance, than anything else. The combos you get from fielding them alongside the Invictor, Phobos Libby & LT are also a brilliant touch, balanced and fluffy even more so than the already exciting profiles they both had in 9th. Really digging their transition into current edition, as despite not being an auto-include territory 100% of the time, there's still plenty of reasons to consider having either or both units in a list.

1x5 Infiltrators with Phobos Captain, 2x5 Incursors alone or with Phobos Librarian. - Captain can forward deploy Incursors. - Captain's 0CP targeting Infiltrators for example with Smoke or Movement on opponent's turn to possible gain 1 CP. - Easy positioning of Incursors on the battlefield objective with Phobos Librarian. Hit buff helps Desolator Squad a lot, even if you target non Oath units.

What's the difference between the blue box and the orange/blue box for the incursors

A phobos captain with las eliminators is fun. Add bolter discipline and dev doctrine and you've got some scary turn 1 damage on a vehicle.

I'm doing an alpha legion themed army and these guys look perfect for that. Baldness really helps with the legion looking like alpharius. I dont think the heretic models really work well with alpha legion lore so I guess in playing green smurfs now.

does anyone think we are going to get new kits/updated kits for the Scouts? I really wanted to get some Scout Snipes and use them in my list.

Maybe it's my local meta, but I'm finding at least one five-man squad of infiltrators to be pretty much auto-include at the moment.

I run 2 squads of incursors in my ultramarine list. Pick 2 oath targets with guilliman, put +1 to hit on both targets. I also have 2x10 sternguard in drop pods, plus desolators and a whirlwind. Big alpha strike potential.

The Phobos Kill Team is where it's at. That box has a ridiculous amount of bits. I bought 2.

It irks me to no end that the infiltrators lost Battleline. Ive got a shit tonne of them for my Imperial Fists/Raven Guard and theyre now more or less unuseable. I really hope a Phobos detachmemt option gets made at some point so i can actually field my army again.

Played against them a lot lately in crusade. They die to the smallest of arms fire honestly, im lucky when i see them across the table

It's weird for SM to have carbines and not be mounted, carbines are basically shorter barrelled rifles, they were mounted scout infantry weapons primarily. They were easier to draw from a saddle holster. They make no sense in 40k.

in a heavy shoot marine composition like Imperial Fists or Ultramarines, having 2 x 5 men incursos is way to strong to secure a 2+ on hit roll

I would love to use these guys but i hate painting flesh, Don't think there's enough helmets in the box for all of them and it annoys me

So, if you're really missing using Infiltrators as your basic troop type, Gladius Detachment Deathwatch could take three Spectrus Kill Teams and three squads of Infiltrators. This lets you get Battleline Unit levels of virtually the same squad while still obeying the letter of the "no more than three" rule. Except as mentioned in the video, they lack the OC of a proper battleline troop unit. And of course by going Gladius, you're walking away from some of the best parts of Deathwatch.

im still salty about the change of the haywire mine in 9th edition... placing mines wherever you want is fun and had some fun and game changing plays with it

It's a lot of investment, but incursors can get a pretty deep forward deployment with an impulsor.

Some people bitch about Primaris, but those same people love Phobos armor from what ive seen. So maybe Primaris aint that bad. Me personally? I LOVE primaris. And i am jealous of the firstborns from non-codex compliant chapters. And i really wish they would make Primaris have more flavor among non compliant chapters as opposed to the simple upgrades.

I love both of these models. The Infiltrators look so bad ass but alas almost all of mine have broken antanas... 😭 One accidental bump picking them up and they snap right off. I wish they were a bit fatter to hold up better. I just end up hitting the broken tip with leadbelcher to show it was shot off. 😣

An infiltrator with Librarian squad that you can't deepstrike within 12" and therefore can never shoot with a deep striker on the turn they arrive is hilariously overpowered against opponents such as GSC.

i take "infultrators" in my DW, but as the kill team, 6 of them (1 with the helix), 2 elimmniators (how i miss running a combat squad of 5 of them in 9th) and 2 supressors. not useing them as infiltrators

So, GW is phasing out most of the firstborn marines I believe? From a gameplay and consumer standpoint, I think it would go over better if they were to… ⚪️Make clear cut Primaris replacements of the retired models, more-so by expanding the rules and war gear of already existing Primaris then making new models (which would alleviate the concerns of the faction becoming more like Eldar Aspect Warriors the the jack of all trades army marines had long been seen as). ⚪️Completely undo any remaining Firstborn/Primaris segregations in the game, and allow Primaris to do anything a firstborn can. ⚪️Use the resources saved from shaving off the older models to reintroduce older units and characters that had been left behind in the past.

There is no reason these are two different units

More SM bloat. Combine the units into one "primarisized" scout-equivalent squad. SM needs to have its codex scaled back significantly.

I love Phobos pattern armor, and have had Infiltrators as staples in my lists since starting 40k. However, I will always stand by the idea that these should have been rolled into just one unit instead of two separate datasheets. The Incursors do not differ from the Infiltrators enough to feel rightly justified in being its own unit. Marines already have too many datasheets compared to other factions, and this split feels wholly unnecessary. You can make the argument that Incursors are the more melee focused forward deploying skirmishers, but I'd then argue that they do not really fulfill that role well enough to justify taking those rules/stats away from the Infiltrator sheet. Another argument would be GW shouldn't put too much power/purpose into a single datasheet, but then I'd say that Infiltrators are already near auto-includes anyway based solely on the Omni-scrambler rule alone. It really wouldn't be that bad to give their gun and knives just a little more punch so they can push back when fighting over objectives, since they still have squishy marine bodies that can be answered easily enough.

Their *marksman* bolt carbine having [HEAVY] is just annoyingly infuriating. Could have given it precision or sustained hits, or something actually useful, but no
