If you fail to spot the eight foot tall giant superhuman warrior in brightly-coloured power armour sneaking up on you, you fully deserve the combat knifing you're in for.
"It is not essential the enemy be taken completely unaware, only that he becomes aware too late to react effectively"- a thing I saw on the wall somewhere when I was a jarhead. Hey, if they use camo, lay low, and jump out just about the time the enemy would be close enough to do anything- that's enough 'stealth' for them to wreck shop. "Stealth" isn't like, Solid Snake all the time. It means being able to avoid detection long enough to gain the upper hand- hence why tanks would even use camo netting and brush. Mostly, the Phobos-Armored Astartes would be trying to avoid aerial detection and long-range observation, and at night, in the right conditions, when you're in a larger force... you'd be shocked at what can sneak up on you- Polar Bears and Grizzlies manage it, and those things are HUGE .
@@elijahherstal776 yeah I agree, however both of those bears are correctly coloured for their settings making them camouflaged, the phobos-armored astartes are all bright blue-berry blue regardless of the fighting grounds. Works great for morale I am sure but bright blue boys aren't hiding from anyone even trying to blend in with the sky and jumping behind them.

"And this" the sergeant gestured towards the huge marine to his right, towering over even the giant frame of his CO. "Is Corporal Alpharius, when you can't see me, know that he can see you, and when he speaks - so do I." The Corporal glared at the assembled marines as the sergeant continued. "And this is your librarian, Alpharius. Let me be clear, the similarities of our names is completely coincidental and not, I assure you, the infiltration of the Primaris by the most experienced and manipulative proponents of the stealth attack in Arstartes history. Is that clear?" " Yes sir, Sergeant Alpharius!" Came the slightly more hesitant response. 😉 Again Mr B - you spoil us with these stories and we appreciate all that you do. Imagine a bush the size of small tree getting closer and closer every time you look away. I'm just happy that the imperium has a chance to take back their worlds. Just imagine a guardsman finding out that their are BIGGER versions of space marines. You know how high of a boost in morale that would be? A single squad alone would cause leadership to raise to 10! (The base number for infantryis 6).
I would think on some backwater worlds the first time a primarus came around they could have mistaken them for primarchs. Because what in the world is bigger than a space marine other than their genefather?
Oh god... So Far The Guard is so utterly hosed this edition and as a Guard player I can say that with a pretty high certainty. Sure go ahead and shoot our baneblade from anywhere in range irrespective of range. Oh yeah the piles of spam wrapped in mylar that are our characters: officers, commissars, platoon commanders, priests, psykers, etc all count toward giving the enemy assassinate secondary objective points. Oh and its loads easier to actually shoot them now. Those 4 chimeras, 3 hellhound, and 5 Russes? Each count toward a bring it down. So in total the best way to keep opponents from winning is lots of air power and foot guard. Because they will max out the thin the ranks secondary objective no matter what kind of army you build. Might as well deny them titans and bring it down. Also conscripts cost almost as much as guardsmen and commissars are functionally useless.
I am also a guard player, so I feel you. To compensate for it however, I create all my guard figures out of paper (aka paperhammer). I figure that if they're going get tore apart like paper, it would be best just to make them yourself at home. Good way to save some money.

I love the Primaris Vanguard marines, I have a small Raven Guard battalion of them and think they were made for the Raven Guard. Plus Shrike is an awesome model. Looking forward to the next instalment on this. I hope you enjoy your well earned break!
I remember how many fans hated primaries, some still do. I kind of got accustomed to them. They also inherited the power of plot armor for their predecessors. So the 40k universe is still consistent.
@Ben Siener I don't think oldmarines will be obselete. I think they'll just all eventually be 'space marines' by 10th edition and share the base stat-line. You'll be able to use oldmarines. Or you'll be able to use Primaris marines with kitbashed parts.
@Ben Siener One thing I can say about Infinity- even though the 'crafting' isn't really a big thing- I like paying 'for the model', not for what some company thinks the model's rules make it worth. There's something hilarious about buying two special limited edition Infinity models for the price of one Primaris Lieutenant.

'...Glancing to the horizon, Montalte saw the final arc of the sun’s setting. The gods would come with the night. The Defiler patrol was still too close to the infiltration point. He had to lead them further away. Montalte began to line up the needler. Steel. Cold, sharp, thirsty, at his throat. At the same moment, his mouth was sealed and he was held, with unspeakable strength, against something more unyielding than Chevreuse itself. A voice whispered in his ear. ‘To call out requires a throat. Make a sound and I will remove yours.’ Montalte felt his head being turned and he looked into the face of death. And death looked back. A finger, clad in armour, traced the ochre patterns the crone had painted over Montalte’s face and scalp. ‘You have the mark,’ Death whispered. ‘You live. For the moment.’ Death turned from him then, its red eyes searching through the slowly twisting thorn whips of the Bael trees for the approaching patrol. Montalte saw the blue of Death’s armour and the black of his bolter and the lightning on his shoulder and he knew that the gods had come. He would have abased himself in worship, but the god held him immobile. Death gestured and, to his left and right, other gods appeared, moving with a silence and stealth that their size and armour made extraordinary. But then, Montalte thought, ideas tumbling wildly through his mind, they were gods. They could go where they willed, leaving no trace of their passing. The gods unsheathed their knives. The blades were dulled with oil and rubbed-in dirt but the edges, ah, the edges. Montalte saw the way the cutting edges of those knives sliced the air. Death pointed, flanking left and right, and the gods turned and were gone, slinking into the shadows and rifts. The Defiler patrol was still directing random las-rounds into the Bael trees while the patrol officer gestured his squads into flanking positions on either side of the stand. But as the squads reached their locations, taking up firing stances and looking to their officer for the command to fire, death rose up behind them. From where he lay, Montalte saw the blue gods move with a speed and silence that was not human, pulling back heads and slicing throats, crushing windpipes and shattering skulls, killing every man in each of the squads in the time it took for him to look left and right and left again. ‘Fire!’ The Defiler officer screamed his command. But only silence answered it. The officer stood up, looking to see what had happened to his men, and as he rose a god rose behind him. The blue god picked up the Defiler officer, his armoured fist immediately muffling the man’s strangled cries. Around him lay the broken remains of his command squad. None of them were moving. The blue god made his way towards where Death waited, Montalte beside him, with the Defiler officer dangling in his hand. The god saluted Death. ‘All accounted for, brother-sergeant.’ ‘Vox?’ ‘Destroyed. But I could not tell if they made a report first.’ The Defiler officer looked up at Death. The traitor opened his mouth and Montalte saw that his teeth were filed to points and his tongue, licking fear over his lips, was forked. ‘I-I serve the Dark Gods. I do not fear death. I welcome it.’ ‘Then today is your day of fortune.’ Montalte, although he was looking upon Death, saw nothing beyond a flicker. Neither, apparently, did the Defiler officer, for he continued to stare in defiance at the skull-headed god standing before him. But a red line opened across the Defiler’s belly, from hip to hip, and the officer, feeling the death he had welcomed, reached down, trying to hold himself together. In his reaching he upset the momentary balance that was binding him. With a look of ineffable surprise on his face, the Defiler officer fell apart, his torso falling backwards, his legs and hips pitching forwards. Montalte stared up at Death’s blank bone face. He had cut the man in two and Montalte had barely seen him move. Death turned to the blue god who had captured the Defiler. ‘Assume mission secrecy compromised.’ Death turned his red eyes on Montalte. ‘Why did you alert the patrol?’ The Faithful stared into Death’s skull face. He could not speak. He made to give obeisance but Death pulled him up from the ground. ‘Speak.’ Staring into the face of Death, a memory flicked across Montalte’s mind, of a Defiler running at him, screaming, his face a mask of tattoos and mutilations, flesh self-sacrificed to the Dark Gods. Montalte had been a child up until then. If he had remained a child that day, he would have remained locked in his fear until the cultist skewered his body. But his childhood had ended as he had raised the laspistol his father had given to his keeping, to guard his mother and sisters. Montalte had emptied the entire power pack into the cultist before dropping the empty weapon and staring, in horrified fascination, at the charred lump of flesh that remained. What he had faced down that day was the face of corruption, the horror of an unclean death. Now, face-to-face with Death itself, he saw that true death was clean. Now, at last, Montalte could answer. ‘Y-your reverence. I-I thought to draw them away from the infiltration point.’ ‘We were already here. Waiting for you. If you had not alerted them, they would have all been dead before they could send a signal.’ ‘Communications rarely work on Chevreuse, your reverence. Mayhap they could not send word.’ ‘Or perhaps they did.’ The man, the god, fell to silence, his red eyes distant. ‘Your reverence?’ The blue-armoured figure glanced at the little man. ‘I am deciding whether to let you live.’ ‘Permission to speak, brother-sergeant.’ Death turned to another of those who wore the death mask. ‘Granted, Brother Jansenius.’ ‘This creature has already compromised mission security. He will slow us down. Recommend ensuring that he has no further negative impact on the mission.’ Death shook his head. ‘He is our contact with the local resistance and, for the moment, our guide.’ Death turned to Montalte. ‘You live. I’m always humored when I hear Astartes and stealth I’m the same sentence. The concept of a 9 foot tall, 500lb man covered in huge armor, being ‘stealthy’ is the truest form of science fiction in this universe
Sucks that RU-vid algorithms force you to go hard mode. You drop so much high quality content and I do wish you could take it easier. All I can say is - thank you and enjoy yourself. I allways did find it funny that there are primaris who specialize in small unit tactical operations within the enemy lines and other kill team tactics, yet the Deathwatch who specialize in this stuff only get the regular Intercessors and their big brother variants
Being the Storyteller General, I wouldn't have thought you would need a break, Baldermort. I'm really digging the different units of the Astartes that you've been doing. I'd still love to see that Officio Assassinorum episode. They are my favorite of the Imperial Bureaucracy.

I've been more than a little skeptical of the Primaris since they came out. I've had my Dark Angels since 2nd edition and thought they were just fine as they were. I never really looked into the new marine types. Watching this... Damn. Gotta get me some.

Hi, I’m loving listening to your videos as I paint. Just a quick question. If the chapters can’t go over 1000 marines. Did Roberte Gillimon change the codex as he gave primaris reinforcements?
In my chapter I instead of having a tenth company have recon platoons attached to divisions(3 company sized strike forces). The vanguards are part of this Platoon and are permanently whatever speciality they are assigned, remaining Infiltrators, Eliminators, Reivers, etc until death

Who are better sniper Eliminators or Vindicare assassins? Also is an Eversor assassin able to beat Reavers or any other marine on mele (this is without taking into account the Eversors death explosion)?
