4 years later and this video is still helping people out. My car had water pouring in from my driver side and couldn’t understand at all why it was happening! But thanks to you man I’ll be taking of this mission tomorrow! Thanks again for awesome video.
Our leak seems to be in the back seat rather than the front seat. We aren't even sure this is what caused it. Is there another entry point for the back seat?
I wish I had known you four or five years ago when I paid $600 to have this fixed. I just noticed that musty smell again and said no way I’m spending again to fix this on my G37S. I’m so happy thanks to you I fixed in less that 2 hours (and an additional 4 with a fan blowing to dry out carpet. You are the man!
You the real mvp. The wife's car started tripping out, taillights coming on while parked and all. Pulled everything apart and got everything dried out good, cleaned the drain and cut the little baffle off, good to go 👌
This is one the best if not the best video on this issue. I believe we g35, g37, Q40, Q50 and Q60 owners love our cars. They are not perfect cars but the price we paid they are a good value with power and looks and the unbelievable amount of customization they are hard to beat. Thanks for this great video!
So first off, wanted to say thank you for posting this video and thank you to everybody that took the time to comment. This page and all the info I got here started us off in the right direction with fixing my 2015 QX 70. Went to a car wash recently and decided to go thru twice (the car was filthy). A few hours later, we (my husband and I) were over at a friend's house and that evening when we left, the car couldn't detect that all our doors were closed. The door ajar light stayed on no matter what we did, so we just decided to drive it home and figure it out later. What we didn't know is that door ajar light, also triggers all the other safety features in the car. We drove home with the doors locking/unlocking repeatedly, interior lights blinking, and the car beeping the entire 20 minute drive home. The car was possessed. After watching this video, we knew where to start. We took off all the panels along with the flooring only to expose the bottom with no water :(. We were disheartened. If there was water there, we would have had a plan of action but now we were stuck again. Another thing to note is we tried to find the tubing for the sunroof drains that were in the column in the video, but it turns out they modified that in the newer model cars and saw that the drains were not set to go inside the car, but straight to the bottom of the vehicle, where it drains out on the road. As we continued messing with the car, my husband noticed something very minor that took us into a different direction. The car would recognize that the doors were closed in accessory mode and not when the ignition was on. In addition, one of the dome lights would dim when the ignition started, so we started googling again and learned about the ICM (illumination control module). This component controls the lighting in the car. We went to work again, taking the car apart and found the ICM behind the glove compartment (the glove compartment had to be removed). We got access to the ICM, unmounted and unplugged it and found that it had water residue, along with soap residue all over the outside. I took a drip of water, rubbed it on my fingers and confirmed the residue was slick (soapy). My husband then cleaned out the contacts along with using an air compressor to blow out any residue that may have been inside. We popped it back in and took a drive to the car wash to see if we can replicate the issue, only to find that the issue was fixed!!!! The door ajar light was no longer on, and the car was no longer possessed. We ended up taking it thru the car wash anyway to see where the leakage is and how severe it was. We went through it once, and by the time we got home, there was a few drips of water on the passenger side floor. I dug around to see if anybody had this issue before and I was able to narrow it down to 2 things. Either there is a design flaw with the vehicle that allows water to leak into the passenger side floor or I had my windshield replaced twice before, and Safelite may not have sealed the windshield correctly. Either way, it will cost money to recover anything from either one of these companies, so we're deciding to let it be. I also know that we saved ourselves a good chunk of change by not having to go to the dealership. We know where the issue is and how to fix it, and that's all I can ask for. So sorry for the extremely long post. I just wanted to share this experience in hopes that this could be of some help to somebody in the future as you all have done for me. Thanks guys
Thank you for the very detailed post! This is incredibly useful information. I have the exact same year / make Infiniti as you, but thankfully have not seen these "gremlins" as you described with the ICM (yet) but will be working on clearing the drain tubes this weekend with hopes of preventing a similar situation from arising. I don recall one time there was a bit of an issue where the car would run normally but I lost most functionality of the dashboard, but it could have been during a cold snap or after a rain. I will certainly be keeping a close eye on this one.
Just bought a 2012 G37 @ 52k miles, I’ve done the oil and diff services so far, had that leak for over a week and it’s been crazy storms in Texas recently. Finally got around to using this fix today since it’s been sunny, hoping it holds 🤞 awesome video man!! Very helpful
Here's a much easier way. First, locate the drain at the firewall. Snap the baffle off since it just holds debris in place and is a PART of the problem. Second, locate the drain opening in the sunroof assembly and pour a little water into the opening (unless it's already moist-this should help if there's a dried up plug in there). Third, using heavy duty (.095 thick) spiral string trimmer line, cut a piece long enough to feed from the drain opening in the sunroof, and fish it all the way until you can see it through the firewall opening. Then pull and push the line back and forth while twisting as well. This effectively "roto rooters" the drain. Lastly, test by pouring water into the drain opening and repeat as necessary. Also, when attempting to dry out the carpeting and underlayment, dont rely on just the air to dry it out. Use a product called damp rid or even uncooked rice since it's a great desiccant(although you'd have to vaccum it up).
My JX35 is similar in components, but not the same in location at the firewall and accessing from the interior (on either side) is a nightmare. I was able to see the passenger side at the firewall up in there from the engine compartment and successfully busted off the baffle blocking the hole. I'm not done yet and the #12 stranded wire i have is not stiff enough to roto-rooter its way thru the clog from either end. If I can get the trimmer line thru there, i may just leave it and use it to help wick water thru and give it a wiggle once in a while. Hate sun roofs, just hate them. Only a matter of time when they will leak. Thank you for the suggestion.
Work like a champ I didn't even have to take it out. All I did was take out the hose noticed it had gunk in there so I cleaned it out with a screwdriver and poured water over the car to flush it.. then I took a thin screwdriver and inserted it where the hose normally goes I moved it around a lot hoping it will loosen dirt and sure enough when I put the hose back in problem solved... excellent video you're a lifesaver
again after I did all the above just to be sure I poured a lot of water on top of the car in the sunroof area..... not a single drop.... I dried up the water is best I could left the window open and put baking soda on the carpet hopefully in a few days it'll be good to go
All the baking soda stuff was dry up existing water and moisture that was already the car from previous rains...... FYI you don't want to leave a car with a leak because it could really screw up the electronics and lights windshields and even the engine can turn on and off on their own
At 7:40 , you did the mod (removing the blocker to the hole) I was considering trying. Extremely helpful video. Both of my sunroof weeps are apparently clogged in my JX35 Infinity. Got so frustrated with the similar issue in my Volvo XC 90 that i pulled the fuse for the sunroof and totally sealed that useless thing up with a hardening sealer from a popular National windshield company. Every sunroof I had ever owned eventually leaked, every one! Thank you for this helpful video. June , 2024
I did this fix and it really worked for the passenger side! Now I need to to the driver's side. One thing I found that REALLY helps, pull the carpet back like in the video, and use an extension cord to set a small dehumidifier in the vehicle overnight and over the weekend to pull the moisture out of the carpet and padding. it REALLY helps!
Heya! After exploring that drainage tube, do you think the drain point is accessible from an open sunroof that I could funnel some water into and then blow it through with compressed air??
@@Reyd_01 hey man i know your comment is really old but did this ever work? Having the same issue and wanted to see if i can do anything else other than taking everything apart.
@@DanielJr_ yep, worked great but used a large straw and lung power instead of hi pressure. You can pull the trim on the A pillar off pretty easily, just be very careful because of the small airbag under. Then you can see and access the plastic drain tubing. I used super hot soapy water with some vinegar in it and massaged the clogs through the tube, blew em out and flushed the hell out of it til clear. Def put some towels down so you dont spill inside or youll smell vinegar for a week.
@@Reyd_01 I appreciate this info, definitely gonna try this. One last thing if you dont mind, did you take the tube off at all or you just did the a pillar? Trying to save myself from taking the dash apart but if i have to i will.
Dude this just saved my life thank you so much!!😩🤞 so I live in Florida as well and we just had this hurricane. The day after the main part of the storm had passed, I went to my car and noticed the check engine light went off. I thought it was sketch so I didn’t want to drive to the store. I stayed in there parked on idle for a while, then I shut it off and tried to turn it back on but she wouldn’t start over. I thought something crazy was happening bc I keep up with maintenance and everything was fine prior. I decided to leave it that day, and the next day tried to start her and same thing, it wouldn’t at first. After another try, she started to I went to the local autozone up the road so they can check my service engine light and give me a code to what was going on. It comes out that it’s not reading my fuel sensor, so right away I knew something was off with something electronic, probably from all the rain and heavy wind. Drive to work the next day, fine. Get off from work, car won’t start first try. Second try good. Took her to my mechanic and realized that I had a giant puddle all along the passager side (front and back. He recommended I soak as much up with towel and then leave my car running with heater on full blast. Did that for a little later on then suddenly my car completely loses power. I was freaking out. My mechanic then told me he was booked for another week and I couldn’t wait, so I found this video and followed everything!! Super easy man I took it all up and sure enough there was even more water built up than yours. I used 4 towels and brought out an extension cord with a blow drier and spend a couple hours getting everything good. Had my roommate give me a jump and sure enough, I was back in biz!! I’m hoping this can give other ppl hope like it did for me. Thank you so much again. 🫡 saved me so much more stress, time, AND money
How long did jt take theres another method. The bypass to the ac drain method less removal of parts but u will need to buy tubing 2 a T and 2 barbs. But it seems better.
Thanks. This was great. You saved me a lot of expense and grief. I had no idea why I was getting a puddle in the passengers side. I followed all the steps until I got to the part where I had to remove the very difficult to reach plastic part at the fire wall. I was just not confident that I would be able to get it back in. Instead, I pinched the drain tube close to the sunroof to prevent Backflow and then pumped (squeezed) the drain tube lower on the pillar. This blew the clog out and the tube immediately drained. I don’t think that it would work if it were not full of water. I tested it by pouring a cup of water into the sunroof well and it came out on the ground just behind the front right wheel.
I have a g37x in the shop right now with this problem, and I am certainly first going to try your "hydraulic pressure" method first. Great idea.... I'll check back in a bit how I made out...
@@jeffbayley9340 haha Upon quick inspection, the drain was plugged at the top by some debris, so a quick vaccum and rinse with some hot water took care of it. But I will be trying your method on any other drain issues. thanks!
I've never understood why, instead of using drain tubes that go down the pillars of the vehicle, they didn't design the sunroof to be water tight when closed
@@jhmarkowitz right i had a 87 nissan maxima, i dont think it had drains and was im assuming water tight. But after a while the sunroof started to leak inside the car when ever it rained so i had to prop it up on one side to stop the leak.
Nice, thank you, and not trying to act like a better man then you but after 40 years of working as a mechanic I'd have cut those stupid baffles out the first time I laid eyes on them, all they are is a choke point for creating a clog, I hope someone at Infinity lost job for that one. Definitely try to keep from parking these cars under trees, my buddy's wifes' car has this issue from being parked every day underneath a large Maple tree next to their driveway and they ask me to do the research and come up with a fix for it, thanks to you I won't be flying blind on the disassembly. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for posting man! Between your video and the comments, I’m ready to attack this leak for a second time. Rain season is over here in Florida, but I want to get this thing fixed before I steam clean the carpets and put this shit behind me.
This is the most informative video on this problem that I have found. I had the same problem with my 2011 G37 sedan just a couple of days ago. I can add a few pointers on getting that fitting out and back in. As others have suggested a long set of needle nose pliers is a great help. H.D. sells a double jointed pair that works very well for stuff like this. I also had a puddle under the carpet so in the midst of storms here in So CA. I found a covered place to dry off the roof and put blue painters tape over the roof seal on the outside. I did this so that I could get the inside to dry out for a day or two whilst figuring out how to actually do this. Once I got into it, and had the panels off, I found out that using a quick clamp to squeeze the AC vent out of the way gives you better access to the unit. I also removed the baffle in the fitting and cemented in a plastic eye dropper tube clipped to the right length. The lip on the dropper makes it a perfect fit for this fitting! When installing the fitting back in I gripped the fitting by the vertical "rib" on the underside of it to manipulate it back in to place with the hose attached. As others have stated it takes time, but it doesn't require much force to pop it back in.
How Ling did it take fjd u see thr video where the guy bypasses it ti the ac drain using 2 tubes and barbs. Which would u do u cus u do t have have to remove the glove box and there's no guarantee its gonna work unless u cut steel straws like I saw.
One thought is to pour some rubbing alcohol into the sunroof drain on occasion similar to adding alcohol to my windshield wiper fluid. Doing this has kept the windshield sprayers clear from getting clogged.
you showed everything wondefully, though the one thing you didnt show would have been very helpful. The kick-plate removal is something I need to get off. I've gently tugged it from every angle but it doesnt want to give. Im sure I can find it on the net. Thank you for such a great and informative video, it helped me a lot!
Without your video I am not sure I would have had the nerve to tackle this job. As is usual with this kind of thing one side went really well and other less so. I ended up loosing the grommet thingy down the back of the dash somewhere. With no dealer network in the uk anymore I improvised with a piece of tube from an old dehumidifier and a microfibre cloth to bung up the hole in the bulkhead/firewall. Fingers crossed and thanks again.
The G’s my independent shop gave same quote but that included removing and replacing drain tubes and obstructions on both sides. That price DID NOT include R/R of the carpeting and center console . If you can get a few sunny days, then removing the passengers seat peeling back carpet and letting air dry underneath will help. I would recommend getting a shop vac that can remove the moisture from the carpet and padding. A moisture absorption (desiccant) pack on the floor should help remove some of the moisture although may need to be replaced once or twice.
thank you soo much. I've had this problem for more than a year. I tried taking it to the dealerhip and they said they fixed it but it was not. I will definitely do it myself, my first time working on my car but this quarantine is a perfect time. thx again!
Thank you verry much for your help ! My M30 DS have same problem on the pasenger side. I removed the carpet and there....big lake 😂. Saturday is the day of practice your advice step by step ! Thanks again 👍
Thanks so much for the helpful vid. Tip for getting the plug back in...paint stir stick. Fits in the space perfectly, makes attaching again much easier.
I had the same problem on the driver side. This was an annoying repair due to limited space and lighting however it's worth it. I couldn't get the plastic piece back in so I connected another hose to the existing hose and ran it through the firewall.. no more leaking for months now
I have this leak on my driver AND passenger side. I live in Florida and it’s hurricane season so it’s rained pretty much every day for 2 months straight. As soon as I get a free, DRY day, I’m gonna try this out. Great vid!
I also live in FL and have been having the same issue, both sides of my G25X...we all should get Infinity to do a re-call so they absorb the cost. THIS IS RIDICULOUS
You are blessed it didn't mess up your BCM.. because when mine's did that my PCM/BCM was soaked in water my sunroof stopped working my windows would not roll down the interior lights would not come on would not recognize my key killing my battery had to get a new one
Barry Farmer mine leaked all in my BCM, car alarm went nuts all night, headlights, interior lights, wipers going crazy. I pulled the BCM out, water came out every connector, removed the board, blew it dry, reinstalled, prayed, replaced battery. All good now. But then leak returned. Poured water all over the place, still can't find where it's coming in. Love the car but one big issue. Weird that the plastic grommet doesn't go through to the engine bay. It's like they made a 2 ply firewall.
Bro this is the God of all videos. I had this same problem. Sunroof drain clogged like a sun of a gun. Thank you so much for this video. Haven't tested it yet but I'm sure this was the fix. If it doesn't work ill try the tube method. Just rewatched and I forgot to cut the baffle so ill keep my eye on it. lol
I can not believe Infiniti acutual designed a sunroof that leaks to begin. Then put a actual drain inside a car to fix the problem. Thats like have a roof on your house that leaks and instead of fixing the leak, installing a gutter system in the attic to carry the water outside...Great Engineering work. very informative video!! I am having the same issue. Hopefully this will work!!
@@loonatic9568 Yes all the sunroofs have a system for this. But my daughters 2011 G37 (67 thousand miles) was clogged three times now with all her carpets soaked. My 2010 lexus (with 140 thousand miles, and my wives newer lexus, and all my past toyota's) have never had such an issue. So this is obviously a flaw on infiniti's part. It does seem like a shame that a high end car would have a huge flaw and the company seems to have done nothing. I love lexus and toyota ever since my old 2009 camry with 110,000 miles had an oil consumption issue and the dealer rebuilt the bottom of the engine (replaced rings and whatever) for free saying "toyota is aware of the problem and standing by their vehicles" (keep in mind my mother in-law had a 2004 nissan altima with 80 thousand miles and an oil consumption problem and nissan basically said "your problem not mine"). My real problem now is that my daughter loves this g37 and will not let it go no matter how many times this happens with the drains, or it will not start without started fluid if damp out, or the screen goes black randomly and she needs to turn the car off then back on to get it to work, or the air conditioner needs charging because they leak more than others even when you get new metal hose for 600 bucks, or........
Bro you just saved me like $800. My BCM got wet and shorted out on me today and I was dreading dropping them at much money on a leak fix vs getting my coil overs lol
Hey bro. I think my BCM went out on me yesterday for the same reasons. What were your symptoms when the BCM started acting up? Mine was telling me no key detected. Car wouldn’t turn on. The headlights came on by themselves. Car was making a loud beep noise. None of my buttons inside the car was working. I unplugged it. Let it dry. And then everything went back to normal expect my turn signals and wipers. My hazards work. And my wipers work only on the interval option. Not for single wipe.
@@theartistformallyknownas404 Bro I've been trying to figure out why my 2012 M56s had that same exact problem. Everytime it rain itd leave a puddle in the passenger floor and started intermittent no key detect. Key system warning, steering angle sensor, killing battery and TPMS lights and AFS lights. Finally a fix to my $80k sport sedan 🤠
While you were installing the first time I was for sure thinking man I would definitely cut that piece out. By the end of the video I started think maybe that’s there cause the next step of a clog would be much harder to reach.
Thank you very much for informative video. I bought a long bent nose plier to pull out the plug and also removed plastic towards other opening. This saved a significant money for me. Thanks again.
Thanks! Best video on the subject so far. I noticed that tiny dirt particles caused a partial blockage at the sunroof drain hole. I clean the dirt and tested by pouring a cup of water and it evacuated the water through the tube.
Thank you for the vid.. its 32 bucks for a new grommet and install was even more so now I can get the grommet and change it my self. I almost bought a new door weatherstrip but it was 310 just for part I'm glad I waited.
I’m staring to get a leak coming in my passenger window by the tweeter. I drive the G37 convertible but it’s in the pillar and I’m assuming it’s the same fix. Dealership wants 2k to fix it and replace the tubing. That’s just crazy after watching this guy fix it. Another guy put copper tubing and extended it out longer, brilliant fix. Anyway, my question is - why isn’t this a recall ? How can we band together and make it one ?
By starting a class action lawsuit that will cost thousands of dollars and possibly years worth of court battles. Then, assuming you win, Nissan would have to pay your court fees and any costs you incurred from having to have your car repaired. After that, Nissan would issue either a warranty extension or full and total recall. Does that sound worth it?
I have same problem .This fix works but if your tube is leaking like mine I went to Home Depot and bought the same size flexible clear tubing for $5 and fixed this issue.
I just followed this advice to fix my Infiniti q40. Same exact setup. It was harder to reach than was let on in a video but it seems pulling The tube off first allow me to use my needle nose inside the little plastic part to pull it off. For putting it back on I just put it on the end of the tube and kind of let it fall where it may making sure the arrow was up and then I use my longer screwdriver to just poke it in and I snapped it in. Checked it by pouring water over the sunroof and water was leaking out. I had done this on my Nissan Murano as well and they had the same exact setup. And I clipped the little piece out at the end on the plastic. I have no idea what it's for or why you would want to stop stuff that came all the way down the drain tube from not draining down And out of the car
Triple 👍👍👍thumbs up bro great video a life saver. Just shared your video with a friend in Brooklyn NY who has the same car as you and was wondering how to fix his leak......very nice of you to put this video together 👌
Hey guy’s I worked at an Infiniti Service shop, we replaced many of these.. when I bought my G35. I replaced the hose with clear dishwasher lines and drilled out the center of the drain cup, places a smaller size hose in thru the center and siliconed it in place.. every few months Tun some vinegar water they it , lil washer fluid or simple green washer thru with water.. keeps mold and mildew out..
Anthony Smith I drive the G37 convertible and it has a leak coming in by the passenger tweeter speaker. Dealer wants 2k to fix it and replace tubing. That’s just crazy. I feel this should be a recall on the part. I’m considering battling his out with dealership because clearly the part is failing. What are your thoughts ? I need to find someone in Oregon to help fix this for me !
Great video! I clean my FX35 sunroof drains every year and so I couldn't figure out why they seem to drain so well, and yet some water still drains onto the floor. Obvious now that the gasket around that yellow piece has rotted and allows water to flow both out to the firewall as well as around it to the cabin floor. Unfortunately access is not nearly as "easy" on the FX35 since the dashboard side caps can't be removed as in your G37 to allow unscrewing of the AC vent. Not sure how I'm going to do this. Man I would kill for a good old Chilton's or Clymer's guide! What a huge PITA. Thanks again for a great video.
GOOD VIDEO MY GUY. But instead of using that plastic piece. I just ran a smaller hose inserted into the old hose. Pushed it under the carpet into the A/C/ drain and out the bottom. SOLVED
After weeks and months i finally bit the bullet and got a new front passenger side drain and cleaned out the rear passenger drain and zip tied it at the top. Ive had months of passenger front and rear water puddles everytime it rained. Then finally pulled the carpet and sucked all the water out, got new drain from the dealer, installed it right before the rainstorm, and finally no water on the floor.
People still had issues with this type of repair a year or so later. Even if modded. I bought 5/8" hose (1/2" inner diameter) and used a 1/2" pex coupling and two clamps then ran it along the same area, but then straight down behind my glove box and behind the interior rug. If you pull that you will see a black hose coming from the left. It's your air conditioner condensation hose. It goes through the floor right there. I cut in a 1/2" pex tee and happy that I will NEVER have this issue again. For drivers side the same can be done but even easier since there's a hole already there on the floor (same relative spot) with nothing using it. I didn't even bother putting my plastic thing back in through the firewall. Other possible leaks in that area is a bad Windshield cowl seal just as an FYI. Causes the same issues. One last area is the weather stripping near the side mirror.
@@mn_king6127 I have a 2009 G37 coupe journey and there wasn't a hole. I got a 7/8" steel bit and went through myself. Through the drivers side wheel well. If you look at a video I made, at the 37 second mark, you can see it for a split second. I do plan to post a longer video eventually, but have no time lately. If you pause it at the right point, and look under your rug, you'll see where I went through. I haven't had any more issues and it's been great. I had a billion issues with my car though and other than a flat I just got, it's nice to finally be finished with it. vimeo.com/674032503
Been there done that. Will happen again unless you extend the water outlet so it doesn’t run down the firewall. I used hard plastic tube and glued it to the outlet.
Beastly Garage I have an Infiniti G37 with this problem. Did you attach another tube to the existing tube from the sun roof instead of attaching it to the gasket ?
Hi Esau! Could you please tell me how you got the hose back on the white plastic piece on driver's side? Did you have to remove the a/c DUCT to get the hose/tube back on? We got it all done & are ready to put the hose back on but cannot see it or get to it as the a/c duct seems to be obstructing the ability to maneuver it back on. Tks!
Bro!... u MVP for this! Got urself a sub and a like! I was about to go to infiniti.. nope, gettin to work! God bless. You the goat, bro!! Jist did both! Left is a PITA!!.. need an extra long nose plier for it. Very tight.
Love it my friend i have 35 2007 and i have that problem i am going trying to fix it ,And is both sizes Thanks again buddy and i been checking other videos how upgrade inside lights too very helpful thanks again if i have question i will let you know.
My hubby just popped the baffle (round thing in middle of drain plug) out. He's a plumber & thinks it will be fine without it. Says baffle is for keeping larger insects out...
Funny thing ... everytime you post a video on how to fix something on your g37 it ends up happening to mine lol I hope this doesnt happen to me tho ... Nice to see you again and welcome back
Thank you for the video. I have a 2017, Q50 and water is leaking in but driver's rear passenger side. I would appreciate any information regarding a similar fix, but for the rear drain hoses. Thanks again
Solve this problem asap if you see it. I had this issue in my g35 sedan, water got all over the electronics, corroded a lot of wiring and eventually lead to the car being totaled.
I’m in south Florida as well, same thing happened to my G37... was the sunroof drains... I️ wasn’t that lucky though took out my BCM as well as the blinker/headlight switch before we found out it was the sunroof.
Wow, that's crazy! Guess I got lucky. I'm sure mine was on borrowed time. I was surprised no damage was done when I took apart the carpet and saw all the water in there. Really poor design by Infiniti.
@@alecbrooks0000 Same bro, just replaced mine, i think my bcm might of gotten hit, but after a sunny hot day it dried out? i replaced the clogs hopefully it's all good now. it starts , u still got the g?
I took my car apart no sunroof holes smh so I had to install all new ones it's on my channel and make sure you cover up anything that going get water on it when doing this install
I wish I knew this car had drain pipes that clog, since mine got so soaked it ruined my BCM, and my car developed a boat load of problems. Thank you for showing how to find it and clean it!
Just got my 2009 G37 out of the shop for this reason. The water leaked into Body Control Module, that made the car not able to start or wouldn't shut off. Had the work done at a mom an pop shop. Cost me $800.00
Bought a 2013 G37x for my mother a few years ago. It seems as if the BCM (Body Control Module) fell victim to this same sunroof drain issue according to her local Infiniti dealership. All the same symptoms, horn blowing and lights flashing, along with door locks engaging over and over. Seems to me this could become a very serious safety issue, especially for my 80 year old mom. Infiniti service quoted her $ 3,400 and said that the top of the line extended warranty does NOT cover any of it??? I'm totally confused how this issue has been going on for so long without any recall or at the very least a redesign of the drain system? Also seems like the plug that the tubing attaches to is designed to clog with that baffle in the flow pathway? Can anyone explain why it is even in there?
I agree, horrible design for that baffle. Only reason I can think of is so that water doesn’t flow out fast and splash against whatever is beyond that; though logic says whatever is in there it shouldn’t really matter since it is routed/drained there.
@@RooftopKorean-gc4ig Seems to me that it would have been not only more effective but cheaper and easier to simply route the tubing through the firewall without using that piece of shit plug?
I have the same problem in my g35, getting it fixed tomorrow hopefully, I don’t trust doing it myself but the water problem has been driving me crazy glad to know how to do it so I can tell the mechanic to do this exactly so they don’t try to charge me for extra shit
Thank you for explaining everything in such detail!! I need to do this to my infinity and I’m hoping when I go to do mine it’s as simple as yours seem to be. I literally have a mini pond in my back 🌊 💺 that swishes front to back on the passenger side… 🙄🤦🏼♀️ smells like wet nasty 😷 sweaty gym sock 🧦… ohhh and gotta love it when it’s so cold 🥶 it freezes up… and my windows 🪟 need to be scrapped FROM THE INSIDE to see LOL. PA weather is coming for me hard right now. I need a big strong 💪🏼 man that knows what he’s doing. Lol 🥰 I’ll have to let you know how it gos for me. 🤿🏊♀️⛲️ Wish Me Luck 🍀 🤞🏼
Just experienced the same problem a few days ago after a storm hit in Houston. The water squirted out from the passenger side foot well behind the dash. Getting the carpet dried and mold cleaned up at the dealership. Sunroof drain need to be replaced soon for now I’ll just put a car cover on it when it rains lmao 🤣
Is this the only spot it could leak from? Mine is definitely clogged down low, but the water spread all the way up to my visor. Could that happen from the leak being below that area and just traveling up like a sponge? I’m hoping I’m not leaking up top.
Man oh man where do I begin on my water leaks. After months of dealing with it and taking it to dealerships and independent body shop and again dealerships I finally found the leak. Had the same exact leak on this video and did the same steps with the sunroof drains. Nothing fixed it. Purchased new door seals and had them installed by dealer and water was still leaking. drove the g from va to jersey where I purchased it from mind you that’s about a 6h drive. I dropped the car on two occasion. First time they said it was the sunroof and had an independent sunroof shop look at it and they thought it was the sunroof drains that were clogged. Nope. Try again. Lol. I can laugh now but that shit was not funny back then. Came back to jersey and picked the car thinking it’s fixed. Soon as I get to va shit starts raining and then boom Water leaking again. Did that trip twice and no fix. Ultimately the Infiniti dealership who installed my weather seals didn’t do a proper job and water was running along the wedges were seal grips the trim on each side of the door (kind of hard to explain) and it was dripping back onto the floor boards where the styrofoam Piece is. Shit would fill up every time it rained. Long story short after countless attempts of mimicking rain at the car wash I ended up just running water around the doors and watching it carefully drip until pinpointed it was indeed coming from the weather seals and not the sunroof drains. fixing it myself by removing the strips and reinstalling them and making sure the seals were pushed up against the rails properly. Since then no more leaks. It’s been 5 months now and carpet is dry but I still have a slight smell I can’t get rid off no matter how many times I get the car detailed. 😢
Wow, that's crazy! I've had a "funny" smell in my car for a while and just took it as normal. Then the floor started getting wet and I pulled the drain apart and fixed it. After pulling up the carpet and letting it air dry, car hasn't smelled "funny" since! Crazy what water does!
diamfor go to Walmart and get odor absorbers. It looks like a smoke detector lol. I was in jersey and the jackass gas attendant left the pump going while I was inside...the scum bag never said anything but gas poured all over my 07 G35x. My car was Stinking of gas all the way back to Pennsylvania. Make a long story short...took it to the dealer couldn’t find the problem & wasted my time and money. I opened up the back of the panels in the truck...gas was sitting in the car! It had come though a drain that sits in the back of the car. I had to leave the truck open for a couple days and used those Odor absorbers. I also would recommend going to Dollar tree and picking up moisture absorber in the car section. This should do the trick for you!
When putting the new piece in does it make a pop? We tackled this tonight the piece seems secure didn’t hear it actually pop in. Poured a few bottles of water down it and no water leak 🙏🏼🤞🏼
Now that it's been 2 years, is it still leaking? I just came across this problem today with my 2008 G37, but I wanted to check back with you before tearing off that baffle.
i did this fix, and it worked for about a month, i’m having the problem again. i would definitely recommend modifying the drain port that the vinyl tube connects to beyond removing the baffle. i found another video that may help you. i will post the link
@@o0OUSMCO0o How is still leaking? Maybe you didn't get a good seal with the gasket? At this point just run a smaller hose and put it through the hole. EZ to just snake the longer hose and call it a day
I would definitely be drilling the center out of that baffle, another thing would be getting a grommet and passing the house through the firewall and probably rtving the grommet on. Also thought about a drain plug in the floor on both sides. Could also put a connector in between these hoses and only have to take the pillar off.
@@DECIFERTHIS09 so you pretty much got rid of the plastic piece and let the hose stick out the firewall? Sorry i know your comment is old but looking for advice
@@DanielJr_ yes I connected a longer hose and it stopped leaking. That little plastic piece is bound to leak or clog so i got rid of it and the hose sticks out 3-4in now under hood and you really cant see it unless looking. Just take the pillar off and add a straight connector add hose then fish through firewall. Zip tie down
This is the root of all my problems. My bcm (those wires to the right of the floorboard) did get wet. Major issue car starts whenever it wants all the power stuff is glitchy too
@@jamesmyers6739 - bro I feel you.. I got a 2015 Q40 an the passenger side bro always flood & then my car glitch lol. You can even see the short vid on my channel. Sh!ts weird
@@dcmasta123 mine did the same thing wouldn't turn off or on.. A whole bunch of computer issues. I'm mad but insurance did me right.. I didn't loss any money.
