I've driven all these SUVs in my company airport fleet. I would prefer the Escalade or Navigator because I like new things and technology but there's one thing this car still has that a lot of the other ones don't and that's minimal gimmicks. You've got basic hard buttons for everything you need, everything is where you'd expect, and when you're driving that is especially important. If they could update the interior and give it the same kind of design in the new QX60, it could be great.
I actually like my 2021 Infiniti QX80 4WD Sensory with the 8 passenger configuration. Interior is black with the white exterior color. It's great for short and long distance driving and great ground clearance and ride quality. It also handles well on corners with the Advanced Hydraulic Suspension. I can fold the 3rd row seats when not in use. I like that both screens are touch screen, unlike some competitors that don't have touchscreen.
I agree per say bout the interior lighting but i have bad eyes & rather have Dim lights. Id have to keep them off or change to cheap bulbs. just me tho.
Alex - a shout out from Canada. Love your comprehensive and balanced reviews along with your car comparisons at the end. I will add that we have had numerous models and brands over the years and we have been extremely happy with Nissan/Infiniti’s build quality eliability, service has been exceptional and as you mentioned, the “value” proposition in Canada is awesome. Thanks and look forward to your future content.
If Nissan gives this an Emergency refresh with the following: -9 speed auto found in the Pathfinder -12.3” Infotainment from the Armada -12.3 digital instrument cluster from the Z proto -Full LED exterior lighting from the Q50 -Massage seats and Air suspension -Panoramic moonroof -HUD from the QX60 This would be a really great buy despite its age.
The nine speed has to come from the Titan, not the Pathfinder. The pathfinder's nine speed is the same ZF unit found in the Honda pilot and some FCA vehicles. It might not work with this because it's meant for front wheel drive application.
Every time I see one of these in my rear view mirror, I move aside. They just have a strong road presence that you don’t get from an Escalade or a Navigator.
EXACTLY!!! I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! I LOVE the qx80..I have a 2014 qx60, and absolutely 💯 love it as well! But it's time for an upgrade,,and the 80 is it!! I needed this review!!🥰💯❤
I can remember when 0-60 in 6.3 was damn fast for a sports car…I’ve got a 2020 QX80 Luxe and am impressed with it. It does everything….and reliably. Incidentally, I get 20 mpg doing 70 mph.
This car absolutely has an independent rear suspension (despite what’s stated in the video) But it’s of a 15 year old design very similar to the original Armada that compromises space inside the cabin. I shopped these hard but ended up with a GL350 Diesel almost solely due to fuel economy.
I’d get the Nissan Armada over the QX80 just of the cleaner look of the Nissan in the back. Infiniti is using incandescent light bulbs on a $100,000 vehicle 🤦🏾♂️
I'm hoping to see what Nissan and Infiniti would do with their full size SUVs, since a redesign of the Sequoia and Lexus LX is coming in the next few months.
I actually really don't mind the fake wood trim in this QX80. I'm my opinion the fake wood trim looks miles better than all the piano black plastic used in it's place on something like the new MDX interior which Alex gushes over. I think if this got a modern one touchscreen and the Titans nine speed automatic, Infiniti would have a nice product on there hands.
Yeah, I don’t understand why it didn’t get the Titan’s 9 speed and the Armada’s infotainment. QX80 is the premium version, should be getting the latest tech.
People gave Acura soooooo much shit for the dual screen layout but never heard anyone complain about Infiniti doing the same thing. Just an interesting observation.
Acura two screen system is slow, it's pretty confusing to use even for the tech savvy. I have a car with it in my household. If it were coherent and quick there would be no issue. It's two screen of goo and messiness and you have to ask why two screens if it's so funky to use. I used the audi dual screen system and it's infinitly better.
Lots of haters who've likely never set foot inside this vehicle. It's got an excellent ride, a powerful (albeit thirsty) engine and a unique, commanding presence that's really unlike anything out there. Sure it's got its foilables and could use a mild tech refresh, but IMHO it's a value leader in the luxury category. People that I know who own them love them and use as they're intended... not as a mommy van. Probably should be cross-shopped against something like a higher trim Chevy Tahoe or GMC Denali that retails for the same (or higher) monies.
Consistently the goofiest looking vehicle on the road, not a single angle from where it looks like it wasn’t just podged together by a bunch of people who love the design of marshmallows.
I rented one back in 17 in San Francisco and averaged 21.5 mpg over 4400 miles. I kept it near speed limits which included 80 mph in Texas. I was also up above 3000 feet a lot including 6200 feet at Sequoia National Park. I went up and down that peak twice!
Nissan is absolutely insane leaving the good 4x4 bits off this truck, 4x4s in general have been selling like hotcakes, and here you have a great offroader that's ready and able to go, and Nissan decides to decontent it?! Who ever made that decision is leaving millions of dollars from reaching Nissan and deserves to be fired.
2:14 The big reason people *actually* “step up” to the QX80 is because they want to out-big or out-bling their neighbors and have neither money nor taste. Seriously, these blingy things are everywhere in suburbia and only once in my life have I seen anybody towing anything with it.
Ugh this SUV is just kind of pathetic at this point. For the price you can get something much better. Nissan really just needs to kill the Infiniti brand at this point and focus on their core.
@@legacyjeetkunedo492 I can afford all of them and have owned a G37 sedan years ago. I did look at Infiniti as I investigated what I would buy next and I quickly eliminated anything from Infiniti
I have owned two infinities with the dual screen system and it actually works quite well. You likely have never had any experience with them and would struggle to afford this vehicle.
The hideous "underbite" on the rear of the QX80 and Armada have turned me off since those models appeared years ago. Who ever approved that ugly rear end??
Too bad it’s a crappy Nissan. There awful in terms of reliability, plus it’s ugly and whenever I see someone drive that I just think they should’ve worked harder and bought the Lexus equivalent however there not much better since the GX won’t be updated until three years from now
