Use a heat gun to loosen the glue holding the trim ring. Not too hot lest you melt the plastic... Heat it up - pries off easily.

Great tip, thanks. I'll try that next time.

Thank you , I was debating on using a solvent or not, that utility knife alone gave me premonitions of a trip to the ER.

Are you talking about the next thing you do after taking the screws out? Is that the trim ring? Mine won't budge. Would a hair dryer work. I don't know what a heat gun is. I'm scared I'm going to break it because I've been trying to pry it out with a screwdriver. Thanks for this video.

@@ac.7724 I just did this last night. I put a little bit of alcohol in the seam all the way around, then used an old hair dryer to heat up the ring all the way around. Then using a little tack puller, I was able to insert it between the frame and trim ring. It loosened it pretty nicely without breaking!

I'm looking at a pair of 3007's that have been successfully refoamed thanks to your video. I did end up using a heat gun to loosen the glue like the comment suggested. The screwdriver tip on the mid-range chassis was a huge help, too! Thank you so much for uploading this reference, it was a tremendous help!!

I'm glad that you found the video useful. Those Infinity speakers sound great! I wish I had a pair, still looking.

Thanks for the vid! Picked some up at a thrift store and got the kit from Simply Speakers so wish me luck!

Good luck! The Infinity speakers have a fairly small magnet gap so the centering process can be tricky. I wish I could find a pair at a thrift store, great sounding speakers.

I wasn’t sure how to get the plastic rings off until I watched your video. Thank you for the help 👍🏼

Nice speakers, I have the bigger brother with the 10" woofer, but the tweeter is not a dome tweeter, but the Infinity EMIT-R, a sort of ribbon tweeter, very sweet and detailed high end.

Thanks for the info on the tweeters. They worked fine so I really didn't look into them at all.

Just got a pair for free. Both woofers were trash so thanks for the video!

Lucky you! I'd love to find a pair at a reasonable price, still looking. Love the sound.

Not yet. I have to work all the time cause my wife is sick with cancer again but she loves my old gear too. Building a listening room in basement for her and trying to get her some nice stuff. I'll get it one day and might have to pay someone to refoam them but I wanted to try it myself. Thanks for the video as I have watched it several times.

I'm glad you liked the video. Were you able to repair the woofers in your speakers? Let me know if I can help in any way. The owner of the speakers that I worked on loves the sound. He is now using them as the front speakers in hes new home theater.

Not yet cause I work all the time. But really want to try doing my own speakers just worried about getting them centered just right.

Good video, came in handy for the Infinity 3006 refoam I just did. I do have a question though. You were right about the woofer voice coil centering being a little touchy on the 3006 / 3007 - the first woofer went well, so did both midranges. The second woofer though - had a little trouble getting it centered, and compounded by the fact I used the glue from Midwest speaker, which is good but sets up quickly and does not give much working time for centering. So the second speaker has some slight vibration at times when playing. I can push on it a little and get it to stop, but it is not right. My question - what now? Do I have to get another foam and redo? (this time with glue that has a longer set time). Can I do anything else, like try to approach it from removing the dust cap instead to center? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
@mguess
@mguess 4 года назад
I haven't had that happen to me yet but I can see it happening on the Infinity drivers. I think they have a very small voice coil gap. Unfortunately you'll probably have to redo that speaker. I would probably just try to redo the job with a new surround and hand centering. However you would probably have a better chance of success using shims if you can get the dust cap off. Either way it's going to be a real pain getting that brand new foam surround off the speaker. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

@@mguess thanks. Weighing my options, but figured the best option would be to refoam. The glue you used from Simply Speakers (I think that is what you used) -- does it have a generous set up time window? The stuff from Midwest speaker has a short working time.
@mguess
@mguess 4 года назад
@@tjs4061 The Simply Speakers glue does work fairly fast but I always have plenty of time to center the voice coil. You may want to call the guys at Simply Speakers and ask for advice. They are always very helpful. I need to call them and ask for some advice on some Paradigm speakers that I'm working on now. They are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday so I'll call on Monday

Do you know if these are the same IMG woofers featured in the SS Sterling series? I bought a used pair and refoamed them. Turns out one woofer is blown after all that work and I'm in need of a replacement.

I’m re-foaming the exact same speakers with the exact kit. Thanks for this video as simply didn’t have one for these CS3007’s. How clean did you actually get the plastic woofer parts? I got the foam off but there is still some glue especially around the edges. I don’t want to damage the cones with my razor.
@mguess
@mguess 2 года назад
It's ok to leave a little glue on the cones. The new glue will stick to old glue with no problems. You just need to get all the old foam remnants off.

I really liked the speakers that I worked on. I thought they sounded great but I'm definitely not an audiophile.

@@mguess if you could see what for damping material I found in my pair of Kappa 6.1i you should laugh. A single piece of cheapest sponge in each of these nice looking boxes. Loudspeakers designed by "-famous Infinity sound ingeener Arne Nudal", I couldn't believe my eyes what I saw inside! Therefore muddy, undefined bass sound. Pure hoax
@mguess
@mguess 5 лет назад
@ Yep, that aint right. The speakers that I worked on were filled with stuffing material.
5 лет назад
@@mguess You're very lucky though, mine pair are some newer model, unusual trapesodial boxes 1998-2000 or so, but same bass and treble elements I think. Midranges are of an other, cone type. First when I put a proper filling in cabinets I got a recent bass sound. Have a nice time with your speakers
5 лет назад
@@mguess I hope you know how difficult is to find the right place for these back baffled bass reflex speakers!? A real pain in the ass, and 1,0 meter or 3 f. from both, back and side wall at least, after much replacement have I found the best sound, particularly for bass. Too much bass also if you don't lift them up a bit from the floor.
